Chapter 13: Alex
"You know, we’re not even close," Mateo replied.
"Not close, yet you can have dinner together and even bring home that much expensive steak? Mateo, you’re lying to the wrong person," Jack said. freёwebnovel.com
"Think whatever you want." Mateo gave up arguing.
He entered the bathroom and cleaned himself while sighing several times.
Somehow, he still could not stop thinking about Magic World. The thoughts refused to leave his mind no matter how many times he shook his head.
Inside the bathroom, he quickly got dressed before coming out.
He did not even say anything else to Jack. He simply left the dormitory and headed toward the university at a fast pace.
This morning, he was already hungry and wanted breakfast at the cafeteria.
The place was crowded with students.
The cafeteria provided cheap yet nutritious meals that gave the body a refreshing effect throughout the day, allowing students to study diligently.
Mateo bought a slice of toasted bread, two eggs, boiled vegetables, and a cup of warm milk.
He only needed to pay 1.5 Dollars for all of that. Outside the university, it would cost at least three times more.
Since there were still empty tables, Mateo chose to eat there.
Naturally, Alice was nowhere to be seen. She lived in her own house rather than the dormitory and was probably having breakfast like a princess right now.
Unfortunately, Mateo was barely close to anyone.
However, while enjoying his breakfast, he suddenly noticed a group of large-built students led by a blond-haired man.
The problem was that they were heading straight toward his table.
Alex.
Mateo immediately felt uncomfortable.
"Boy, do you know where William is?" Alex asked as he sat directly across from Mateo, his finger tapping the table repeatedly and making it shake nonstop.
"I heard he talked to you in front of the library yesterday before disappearing. He’s also not in his dorm."
"How would I know?" Mateo answered, already suspecting this was what they wanted to discuss.
Apparently, William had truly decided to run away.
Even if he ran, it did not mean he had to quit university.
Every classroom had cameras and livestreamed every lesson, allowing absent students to continue studying remotely.
"You really don’t know?" Alex narrowed his eyes while frowning.
"I’ve only been here for three days... I don’t know anything about William. We only talked a few times," Mateo replied.
"Alright, I believe you." Alex nodded, surprising Mateo quite a bit.
"Can you help me?" he asked afterward, making Mateo frown in confusion.
"Help with what?"
"Contact William and ask him to meet you. It doesn’t have to be here, just in Magic World."
Hearing that, Mateo instantly understood Alex’s plan.
He wanted to use him to catch William.
"Boy, are you refusing?" One of the large men stepped beside Mateo and directly pressed down on his shoulder.
They were trying to force him. freёwebnovel.com
When Mateo glanced around, he realized almost everyone was pretending not to notice anything at all except Emma, Jack’s cousin, who frowned before taking out her phone to call someone.
"No..." Mateo finally spoke.
"You..." The large man began pressing harder on Mateo’s shoulder but suddenly looked shocked.
Mateo’s shoulder was far too hard for his large, fat-covered hand. Mateo’s body was filled with dense, lean muscles. He did not look bulky, but he was far stronger.
Of course, if he fought them physically, Mateo would still lose.
"So you don’t want to help?" Alex asked.
"I just don’t want to get involved in other people’s business," Mateo answered.
"Alex." Emma, who had walked over, called out to him.
Alex frowned and turned toward Emma.
She was a senior student, but he clearly did not care.
"You want to help this kid?" he asked.
"You should hear this..." Emma replied as she turned on her phone’s speaker and pointed it toward Alex.
"Are you there, Alex?" a woman’s voice echoed out.
"Alice?" Alex blurted out instinctively.
"Do you realize what you’re doing?" Alice asked.
"What am I doing?" Alex sounded confused.
"Mateo is in front of you, right?"
"Mateo?" Alex did not even know Mateo’s name, so naturally he was confused. However, he quickly realized who Alice meant.
"Tell me why you’re bothering Mateo. If he owes you money, I’ll pay it."
Alex was instantly stunned upon hearing that.
"It’s not him, it’s his friend," he replied.
"If it’s not him, then why are you bothering him?" Alice’s voice turned cold.
"Alice, who is he? Is he your relative?" Alex asked.
"You don’t need to know. But if you keep bothering him, that means you want trouble with me."
Alex, "..."
Mateo did not know whether to laugh or cry when he saw Alex freeze up.
He also felt uncomfortable being defended by Alice to this extent.
His eyes glanced around once more, and he relaxed slightly after realizing the students at nearby tables probably could not hear Emma’s phone clearly.
The call ended shortly afterward, and Emma put her phone away before leaving, leaving Alex staring at Mateo in confusion.
Meanwhile, Mateo simply returned to eating as though nothing had happened.
Even without fully understanding the situation, Alex realized he could not continue causing trouble for Mateo.
Alice.
For someone with a certain background like Alex, Alice’s background was far more intimidating.
He continued staring at Mateo while wondering about his relationship with Alice.
In the end, Mateo finished his meal and left before Alex, heading straight toward his classroom.
