Chapter 355: Chapter 355: Going Berserk

Evelyn Ford’s attitude was the very picture of arrogance.

Tied to a chair and unable to move, Shane Landry thought of the others in his house, and his face fell.

"Where are my wife and son?"

"Don’t worry, they’re still alive." Evelyn Ford twirled the gun in her hand a couple of times before picking up a document and waving it.

"What is this? A ’Base Population Reduction Plan.’ Are you planning to drive out the people already inside the base?"

Shane Landry’s expression was grim. He pressed his lips together and didn’t answer. Evelyn Ford didn’t press him, simply busying herself with flipping through the document.

"So there are still this many people at the base. Cutting the population by half... isn’t that too cruel? The ones you get rid of—where will you send them? Will you arrange for housing? Will you provide food and clothing?"

Shane Landry remained silent. Evelyn Ford sighed and walked up to him.

"Why get rid of the lower-class laborers? Now that you’ve hoarded enough food, they’re not important anymore, is that it?"

The plan explicitly stated that two-thirds of the base’s laborers were to be cut. That amounted to hundreds of thousands of people.

They must have possessed powerful enough weapons to deter resistance to have dared make such a cold-blooded decision.

Evelyn Ford pressed the gun to Shane Landry’s head. "Who gave the order to hoard supplies?"

Shane Landry still didn’t speak. Ronan Kendrick walked over, held out his hand, and snapped his fingers in front of Shane Landry’s eyes. Once, twice, three times. Shane Landry’s gaze gradually grew distant until it was completely vacant.

Evelyn Ford gave Ronan Kendrick a thumbs-up. When used effectively, a skill like hypnosis could even be used to kill without a trace.

Ronan Kendrick smiled, then cleared his throat, signaling for Evelyn Ford to begin her questions.

"Who are you?"

Shane Landry began to answer mechanically, "Shane Landry."

Evelyn Ford raised an eyebrow. ’It worked that fast.’

"Why does the base need to reduce its population?"

"The Little Ice Age is worsening. There isn’t enough food. We must reduce the number of lower-class refugees and keep the skilled personnel."

Evelyn Ford’s eyes grew cold. "Who gave the order to hoard supplies?"

"I did."

"Who gave the order to drive out the refugees?"

"I did."

"Was sealing the windows of the apartment buildings also your proposal?"

"Yes."

"Why did you want to hoard supplies?"

"A letter."

’A letter?’ Evelyn Ford looked at Shane Landry and continued asking, "Someone wrote you a letter? What did it say?"

"For the next five years, the ice age will persist, animals will mutate, and plants will freeze to death."

’Animal mutation?’ Evelyn Ford’s fingers stroked her handgun.

And Shane Landry had said *the next five years*. That meant the sender could only foresee events for the next five years. A glint flashed in Evelyn Ford’s eyes as she began to search the study, but after looking everywhere, she couldn’t find the so-called letter.

"Where is the letter?"

"The letter has been destroyed. It cannot be revealed."

Evelyn Ford sneered. "When will the animals start mutating?"

"I don’t know. I was not told."

Evelyn Ford really wanted to slap him to death. He pleaded ignorance to every other question, yet he’d caused so much trouble over a single letter.

But she couldn’t kill him. Killing a base leader who held power and influence would surely lead to chaos. If the animal mutation was real and the base leader died, the ensuing internal power struggles would only make the residents’ lives even worse. fɾēewebnσveℓ.com

Evelyn Ford had never studied management. She could manage twenty people, yes, but she couldn’t come up with a better way to manage millions.

Abandoning the lower class to preserve the middle and upper classes seemed like the best solution, but it was far too cruel.

The laws of the animal kingdom and the laws of humanity were actually the same: natural selection, survival of the fittest.

"Where will the people who are cut go?"

"Undetermined."

This time, Evelyn Ford couldn’t hold back. She slapped Shane Landry hard across the face.

Hundreds of thousands of people, and their fate was "undetermined"? Her rage spiked. It reminded her of the Hooper and Holloway families, who had fled with supplies.

"You’re all the same goddamn pieces of shit." Evelyn Ford sent him flying with a kick.

Ronan Kendrick’s eyes widened as he watched her. He rarely saw Evelyn Ford lose her temper, let alone curse.

In that moment, he saw the same feral aura about her that he possessed.

It was a signal that excited him.

Shane Landry fell to the floor, his eyes still vacant.

Evelyn Ford hauled him up and warned him, word by word, "That’s hundreds of thousands of lives, not just a number. They’re *people*."

Grabbing the documents from the table, Evelyn Ford untied the rope, and the two of them left the villa.

Staring at the documents in her hand, Evelyn Ford took a deep breath.

"Three people on this list proposed using a fog to ’clean out’ the lower class. Others suggested using paraquat, pesticides, dichlorvos... these ten people, we’re taking care of all of them."

The document contained their addresses and information, making them very easy to find. Evelyn Ford was clearly seeing red. Before Ronan Kendrick could even make a move, she had already eliminated the first person. The target had just returned home, his snowmobile parked at the villa’s entrance. He was killed, his throat slit, before he even had a chance to get out.

Ronan Kendrick stared blankly at Evelyn Ford. He hadn’t even had a chance to do anything.

Blood dripped from the knife in her hand. Evelyn Ford wiped it on her pant leg and moved on to the next target.

She had left Shane Landry alive as a warning and to maintain the base’s stability. But these useless leeches who only consumed resources had no reason to live.

"You want to reduce the lower class? I’ll fucking reduce *you* first." Evelyn Ford pulled her knife from the man’s lower back and checked the document to confirm his identity.

"Good, didn’t kill the wrong person. Here’s one more for good measure." With that, she plunged the knife viciously into his chest.

Ronan Kendrick followed behind, cleaning up the mess. He collected the dead bodies into his space—after all, Evelyn Ford had said she was going to hang them on the base’s main gate as a public warning.

It was a move she had learned from Ronan Kendrick.

"You fat bastard. Other people have nothing to eat, and you’re eating yourself into a pig. Even the knife in my hand would protest if I didn’t slaughter you."

Bursting into the bedroom, she saw a pig-like man lying with a young girl. Evelyn Ford knocked the girl unconscious, and before killing the man, she slapped him across the face.

"All you know how to do is prey on young girls, you bastard. I’ll make sure you can’t prey on anyone again. I’ll make you a eunuch in your next life."

Ronan Kendrick had seen his share of gruesome scenes, but at this moment, even he was a little scared.

"It’s not even as big as a toothpick. You can atone with your death."

Ronan Kendrick was speechless.

"What are you looking at?" He was exasperated. "Let me do it. Don’t look at him."

"What do you think? It’s something you’d need a magnifying glass to see."

Ronan Kendrick took a deep breath and looked at Evelyn Ford pleadingly. "Let me take over. You rest for a bit. When it comes to killing, no one is better at it than me."

Evelyn Ford snorted and let Ronan Kendrick clean up. Her wrist was a little sore anyway, so it was a good time for a break.

Looking at her, Ronan Kendrick knew her anger hadn’t subsided.

Although he couldn’t feel her rage personally, even he found the reduction plan horrifying.

After dealing with the fat pig of a man, the two of them immediately rushed to the next target.

"There are three women inside. Pointy chins and sunken cheeks, high cheekbones, triangular eyes... you can tell they’re bad news just by looking at them." Evelyn Ford was so angry she had resorted to attacking their appearances.

Her entire being screamed, ’Kill, kill, kill.’ Ronan Kendrick took the document and glanced at it. The three women were all high-level executives at the food processing plant.
