Chapter 22: The Blue Danube Incident (6)

Spears of ice and electricity, swords of flames, balls of water, and giant rocky boulders all merged with sword aura and ki as assault after assault came raining from the sky.

My mind had already kicked into overdrive. It was not difficult to guess what had happened from whatever contextual clues I had.

In the little time that Nea and I were going goochie goochie goo in the bathroom, the CEF must have seen John and called him the devil spawn. If that’s not all, even the Reinvelt Knight Order was at it now. What about the third group? Were they all civilians?

Heck, I had no idea.

The only action open for me in this moment was to escape. Escape without getting caught. My eyes went to Nea. She was teary eyed and confused, rustled, shy, definitely overwhelmed.

If she got her bearings, she would probably fold John. I had to do something, right now. fгeewebnovёl.com

Quickly, I twisted and pulled myself up. John kept running as I put a hand on his shoulder and another on his helmet.

"..."

Yeah. Shut up.

The first step, was to act like I am struggling.

"Let her go, you bastard! Take me instead!"

John, confused, turned to me, I hit him in the face. It hurt my hand only, but whatever. Fuck, this is why I wanted to bring Jake! He would have understood, he was an asshole through and through.

"Throw her throw her!" I whispered in his ears. John looked at the lady, then back at me. I could sense some anger in his voice.

It was happening right now.

Nea, having heard my voice, had her inner knight awaken. So what if she was drunk and horny and in a mess, a knight was one that protected.

—Thud.

A soft plop entered my ears, it took a second to realize that Nea was behind.

She was on the ground.

"N-Nea!" I yelled. The stutter was genuine. John had let her go the moment he felt a small sense of danger from her.

He ran and ran with all his might.

"Go underground," I whispered in his ears again. The best place to escape was through the sewers.

"Axel!" Nea got back on her feet. "Axel! No! Let go of him you monster—"

A large barrage of attacks were flowing down from all around. We ran through the streets of Serenia. First was John and I, right behind us Nea, behind her the CEF and the civilian outfit or whatever in a group.

"Fuck you Torville members!"

"Haha! I’ll die but kill you CEF fucks!"

"Don’t let anyone escape. Leave the Torville for all I care!"

"SIR!"

Screams from all around merged, so did explosions and magic and swords. The walls around us were falling and breaking. The crowds in front all running away.

Nea was coming closer and closer.

"I won’t let you... take Axel you monster—!"

Mana coiled around Nea. The vice-captain of Reinvelt Knights, she had abandoned the whole fact that she was in the middle of the city and was summoning her entire strength.

"NEA! RUN!" I screamed. "Go to safety! The ones behind!! RUN!!"

She was running toward me. Nea had to hesitate, she hadn’t told me that she was a knight, and I was giving my life here! For optics, I continued hitting and biting at John who kept running with me.

Finally, a manhole on the ground.

John quickly swung his sword and crushed the path open for us.

Once we were down I’d guide us out. It was easy. fɾeewebnoveℓ.co๓

Nea was almost about to catch up, quickly, I looked for something, anything. I reached into my pockets and pulled out a lighter. A lighter? Ok! A lighter! That would help.

"NEA!" I screamed. "RUN TO SAFETY!"

I pulled the lighter back. With it...

The mana that I had just swallowed from her. By kissing her deeply.

A simpler one this time.

In public.

Excitement.

All the conditions... they were met, right?

[Lilith’s Grimoire... Spell]

[Fireball - (30%)]

Much more naturally this time, mana flowed out of my hand. As he had said, the same issue won’t happen. No crimson, no big problems.

I tossed the lighter. A tiny, tiny ball of mana floated along with it. Streaking through the sky, right behind Nea.

"NEA!!" I screamed. "NO MATTER WHAT, RUN TO SAFETY!"

"AXEL!!"

"NEA!!"

"EVIL SPAWN!"

"TORVILLE!"

"CEF BASTARD!!"

"REINVELT FUCKERS!!"

"VIVA JAZZ!!"

With that romantic backdrop completely fucking us over, the lighter fell on the ground. And with it...

—BOOM!

A fireball, without any flashes of crimson, took to the skies. The ground of Serenia was lit up once more as clouds of smoke rose up and swallowed the street whole.

We jumped into the manhole, and dropped into the sewers.

The world above went silent.

"Let go," I said, softly. John immediately dropped me and bowed his head.

"It’s okay. It’s not your fault. Let’s get out of here."

I ran ahead with John, and after taking a couple turns, tapped on a wall. With a slight nudge, a hidden passage opened. This was the city of aristocrats, and every aristocrat in their fort had an escape route from the palace to outside.

All of them were escape routes I knew too. John and I went inside, and closed the path behind us.

It was a goodbye to Serenia for now.
