Chapter 13: One Man’s Trash, Another’s Treasure
"Treska and Delka, is it?"
With the two beastkin children plopped on the shoulders of my dear friends Jake and John, we were heading back to the Grim Palace. Jake and John had done exceptionally well in the fight today, for sure, I would let them go to the brothel the next time I was to go to the city.
I made them that promise, and Jake was overjoyed as well. Which was why he was carrying both the test subjects right now. They would have to be healed and cleaned, the golems would handle that.
"W-we shouldn’t be going in that direction, right? Especially at this hour..." Treska trembled as he looked around. We were delayed because I had to make a short detour, but still.
"Why would I be worried about walking in my backyard?"
"Backyard... This is the Forbidden Fairy Forest, mister. I know you’re all strong but its no laughing matter..."
"..."
"..."
Jake and John were both smirking. They also liked this.
"W-what if the witch... eeee!"
"You’re really just a child, huh?"
"I am 16, it’s pretty old. I am serious mister, we should go back and hide at some other place."
"We are not running away brat," I said, sighing. "This is seriously where I live."
"In the Forbidden Forest..."
"With the witch."
"What?"
"Nothing."
"Hein!?"
I whistled and we continued walking onward. The mist of the forest was slowly taking over the place. I looked to my side and saw Treska fall asleep. The Fairies of the Forbidden Forest were doing their thing. He would probably be in peaceful sleep right now, and eventually sink deeper and deeper into unconsciousness as he breathed more of the air here.
A sleep that one could literally never wake up from, the dreams of a fairy as Weiss liked to call it. I remembered her surprise very well when she captured me the first time.
In this forest, space itself warped around by the whims of fairies who lived in a different plane of existence. They had made a deal with the first Witch Queen... my predecessor, I guess?
I looked to my left and saw, in a skirt with shiny bright wings, flying near us was the Grimoire. It seemed to be nodding.
FUCK. UGLY.
What in the hell was this thing subjecting my eyes to!? The Grimoire went around like a fairy for a while, and when it realized I was ignoring it—not wanting to come out in front of Jake and John—it went away.
While the kids were still asleep, we made our way through the entire passage and the Grim Palace was in front of us.
Jake was waking the kids up and I went to the door.
"John, grab two buckets of water please. Big ones."
I let John go in first, who was confused, but followed my instructions. When John was back, that was when I took Jake and the kids on his shoulders inside.
As soon as we passed through the door and into the palace, I saw a cat running up.
A second later, draped in white clothes from top to bottom, her netted white sheet covering the silky smoothness of her thighs and neck, came down Weiss, the black cat in her hands. Suddenly, she stopped.
—FWISH
"Pour it!"
A flame erupted right next to me and John quickly put it out. Treska woke up, his eyes widened completely, and even Jake seemed to hopping around in fear.
"Good job, Butler," said Weiss, stepping down more. "I almost couldn’t control myself..."
Weiss’ eyes fell on the two beastkin children. Treska, who had woken up, started trembling.
"W-w-w... witch...?"
"You’ve brought an interesting specimen, butler."
I bowed lightly. It surely wasn’t easy.
"Give them some potions, would you? I’ll head to my study."
Weiss stepped away, and we all stayed silent. As she walked away, Treska took a breath of relief, and so did the two armor friends of mine. It must be stressful, Weiss had an air of her own.
"M-m-mister... what’s going on? What will happen now...?"
"You’ll be fine. You heard potion."
"That’s why I didn’t run. Actually, how are you all fine mister?"
"..."
"..."
I only smiled. I brush that woman’s teeth, as if her ’aura’ would work on me. Clowns. Saving them that information, I called the golems over. Jake and John seemed like they wanted to see what would happen with the potions, so they hung around too.
The kids were cleaned up, Delka was heaving and unable to speak through it all, but as the potion, some soup and food went into his body, his condition seemed to calm a little.
Treska, too, had to be bandaged extensively. The potion would increase his natural healing, it would still take at least a day or two to recover from injuries of that level. Still, he was hopping around and out of most pain. The kids were looking their age.
It didn’t take long before they were ready to be presented. Night was deeply permeating, well past midnight.
At that very late hour, we entered the study.
Weiss sat there, covering her nose. She was leaning on the desk behind her in a very attractive, lethal manner. Her eyes glanced over at the living armors, staying there for just a second too long, before turning back to us. Delka was here still on Jake’s back.
I stepped ahead next to Weiss, and she handed me a vial rom the box in her hands. It was filled with a sludgy, maroon-ish liquid.
"Treska," I called out.
Excitement was filling me.
What would happen?
"No, start with that one," said Weiss. "The stench is much worse." freewebnøvel.com
"Stench...?" Treska asked. "What is this—"
I was about to speak when Weiss answered him first. "A potion to fix ones like you, it’s in development, but you won’t be harmed at all."
"Fix...?"
Treska’s eyes widened.
Now, I wasn’t going to explain racism to a kid like this. Before he could say much, I turned to Jake and Delka in his hands. We carefully administered the potion to Delka.
It took a few seconds of us being silent. Treska, too, turned his head and stared at his brother.
Then.
"GUH!!"
A short yelp.
"GRAH!"
"DELKA!"
A hissing sound filled the room.
"W-what’s hapenning!?"
"Shut up." Weiss snapped from the side. Treska immediately quietened, his hair standing on end, as soon as Weiss mouth closed. We all watched the kid intently.
My heart was thumping too. Steam started rising from his body.
Was it happening? Was his genetic existence seriously changing...?
The boy writhed around, and gasped. More steam and hissing rose from his very body. It was so heated that the very air was changing.
Water? Did we need water? I wondered for a second, worrying about his state, but my confidence in Weiss ran much deeper. Anything like that, she would know.
Yet.
Was he supposed to be in this much pain?
After very long, excruciating few minutes, Delka finally settled in Jake’s arms. Tired. His body was not reacting anymore.
I gently went closer, and pressed a hand on his forehead.
The temperature was down...
"Did it work?" I asked. He was still a beastkin, the ears and tail there. All three of us were curious, so we all checked.
Weiss let go of her fingers covering her nose.
I pulled at the kid’s ears.
And Treska ran over and pulled his sleeve.
The ears didn’t fall off...
""It didn’t work""
"IT WORKED!"
Weiss and I said the same thing at the same time, but Treska had something completely different to say.
"What do you mean, he stinks"
"What do you mean, his ears are attached."
Treska looked at us, smiled widely, tears spilling from his eyes, and turned back to his brother.
"I-it worked! The Corduil Corruption, the corruption is gone!"
Corduil corruption. The corruption which caused people to turn into monsters between humans and demons, and the very thing that the Corduil Elimination Force was created to eliminate.
This kid was corrupted?
And it was gone???
WHAT????
