Chapter 8: Chapter 8 Silver Mist
The Third Person’s POV
Matthew feels Abby lean into him, and soon her weight and breathing tells him she is sleeping. He readjusts her in his lap and makes sure she is comfortable. He feels so lucky that he has found his mate, who is not only beautiful on the outside, but on the inside as well. She is strong and confident, and holds herself with pride, not backing down even to her Alpha. Absentmindedly, Matthew keeps stroking her hair while talking to Kaiden.
"So you mate is half witch?" Kaiden says curiously as he looks at his sleeping Luna in the review mirror.
"Yes, and those idiots didn’t even know what a gem she is!" Matthew answers with an eye roll.
Kaiden had known something was up when Greyson said they were leaving before the Alpha ceremony. That would normally be taken as an insult to the host pack, but he guessed this was a special circumstance.
"I’m happy we are leaving now; I have never liked that pack. They are snobs and purist - the lot of them. Your father told me she was the mate of Daemon. Is this true?" Matthew sighs.
"Yes, it is. He rejected her in front of the entire pack on her 18th birthday." Matt shakes his head.
"Wow. That’s hard, man. Who would even do that?" Kaiden asks with disgust. He had always perceived Daemon as an asshole, but to reject your fated mate on her birthday, and in front of the entire pack, took him to a whole new level of asshole.
"I knew I should have punched him while I had the chance. When you took the Luna to your room after the infirmary, I made sure no one other than your sister or mother could go near your guestroom. I stopped Deamon, and he blew a gasket, claiming you were stealing his mate, and he demanded me to move. When I refused, he threatened me, and said that a lousy Beta could not stop him." Kaiden says.
"Then his asshole father showed up; telling him he should be happy that you were taking out the trash, so he wouldn’t be forced to kill her." Matthew’s eyes grew darker as Kaiden relayed what had happened when Abby was out cold in his room. When Kaiden said they would have tried to kill his mate, his eyes were black pools of anger. Blade was pacing in his head, demanding them to turn around and make an example of Alpha Fenrir and Alpha Daemon.
"Don’t worry, man, I told your father, and he took care of everything." Kaiden says with an evil, satisfied glint. Matthew is curious about what his father had done, but would ask about it later.
As they drove, Matthew kept looking at the sleeping beauty in his lap. He couldn’t quite believe she was his. She already owned his heart and soul, and he knew he would give her the world without even blinking. He knew he was a lovesick puppy with Abby and her wolf, but he didn’t care.
She could ask anything, and he would give it to her. He was going to pamper and spoil Abby in any way he saw fit, and that was every way possible. She never had much. That was clear by how humble she had been back in her old pack. But she would never again miss a thing!
The only problem was that the neighboring pack’s former Alpha’s daughter had made it her mission to be his Luna and even told him they were getting engaged when he returned. If not, she would have her father and brother wage war against him.
He had said nothing to the other ranked members or his family, because he didn’t want them to worry. He had always thought she would lose interest, but over the years, her possessive ways had become more prominent. Even his pack members had noticed how she scowled when a female talked to their Alpha, or how she would secretly threaten anyone close to him. Of course, he had become aware when she tried this with Sally and Helena, who not only had told him but also told her to shove it. He chuckled at the memory. His sisters were something else.
Sally, who had remained at the pack to keep everything in order when he was away, was the oldest of the three of them. She lived in another pack, as the female beta with her mate and their children. Her oldest daughter had traveled with them to Black Moon for the Alpha ceremony. Thank the goddess she hadn’t gone with his mother and sister to that meadow.
Abby had saved them all, and for that, they all owed her their lives.
Sally had cried on the phone when mom had told her what happened, and she was looking forward to thank Abby in person. My sister could be the sweetest women on earth, but threaten her family and she would make your life a living hell.
Matthew’s thoughts were interrupted when his cell phone rang. He looked at the caller ID. It was his Gamma Brandon.
"Hey, bro. What’s up? Is the pack still standing in our absence?" Matthew joked.
"Yeah, it’s going fine. I just wanted to know why the hell you’ve told Maria she could come here and boss us around. She says she is in charge now as the future Luna to the pack, and you gave her permission to tell us what to do?" Brandon, the pack gamma, says in a huff.
"I thought you were waiting on your mate? And I am saying this right now, bro, if you are making her my Luna, I’m finding another pack to live in!" He growls at the last part as he continued.
He hated Maria with a passion. She’s a self-absorbed, self entitled, snotty, spoiled little brat! She had always gotten what she wanted, and no one had ever said no in her life. So, when she set her eyes on Matthew, she thought it was the same way.
"Are you anywhere near her?" Matthew asks with a sigh.
"Yeah, two seconds." He hears shuffling, and then Maria’s shrill voice rings through the phone.
"Mattie, darling, what is it? I’m really busy planning my joining the pack and Luna’s ceremony here." Matthew takes a deep breath.
"Maria, put the phone on speaker and make sure everyone can hear me." Matthew says in an exasperated voice. She squeals and does as he tells her, expecting him to announce to the pack members that she is indeed in charge.
"I will say this one time; Brandon is in charge until I return in a short time. Maria is a guest and is to be treated as that. But only that. She has nothing to say in anything pack related. I will explain when I get home, but rejoice, because I also have good news for all of you." He hears more shuffling, murmurs, and some cheering at this.
"Thanks, man. Damn, she is a right pain in my ass. When will you be home?" Matthew chuckles. ƒreeωebnovel.ƈom
"I am at the gate now, so in a few minutes." Then he hangs up the phone.
