Chapter 41: Chapter 41 The Answer
Abigail’s POV
Matthew hung up the phone, got up from the bed and goes to the door. He calls down the hall for the doctor, probably because he didn’t want to leave me completely alone. I didn’t honestly know what to think or feel. That awful Alpha had actually fooled my dad, and now I was back at square one. I didn’t know where I had my father. The tears prickled my eyes, but I wouldn’t let them fall, not for him or them, actually. They didn’t deserve it, but I deserved peace, and I contemplated asking Matt to not call back and just leave them hanging. But something in my gut told me this was important, however painful it made may be.
The doctor finally came in with the paperwork and I could go home. Matt locked hands with me as we left the hospital. Pack members kept congratulating me on my recovery and I remembered to thank them all for the flowers, chocolate and get-well cards they had sent me while I was there. Children came running up to us with wildflowers, like the time where I had beaten Maria. Matt smiled proudly, and the more brave ones of the kids even gave him a smile and a high-five, which surprised Matt just as much as me. Even though my mate is a big softy towards me and his family, his rumor as a fierce fighter and strict Alpha far proceeds that.
When we reached the pack house, a little slower than expected because of kids and adult alike, we headed straight for our room but didn’t get very far before a loud squeal sounded from behind us. I recognized that voice everywhere now, Willow!
"Abby! You are back!" The little spitfire yells, before she launches herself into my embrace. It feels so good to hug her again. She has been very careful since that first day, and both Matt and Jax told her to not throw herself at me.
"Hey little one. I’m okay, I promise." I soothe the child as she sniffles on my shoulder. Willow nods and turn to Matt.
"Keep her safe!" She says sternly before turning and running outside. Jax shakes his head at me with a smile.
"She’s been so worried you wouldn’t come back home. We were all worried." He says. "It’s good to see you up and about." He nods at Matt before going after Willow.
As we enter our room, I let out a big sigh. It’s so good to be home. Matt takes me to the sitting area in our room, and pulls out my phone, which he has held on to this whole time. Just in case.
We lock eyes.
"Are you sure you are up for this today? I can call them and say it has to wait until you have resettled?" He brushes a finger down my cheek, voice and eyes so filled with worry on my behalf.
"I love you, Matt. You are so sweet to want to take care of me, but this is important and we need to make the call." I say lovingly, and I lean in and peck him on the lips.
"Well, here goes nothing then." He states as the phone rings.
Daemon’s POV
What. The. Hell?
"Who are you? And why are you in my office?" I ask while jumping up alert. Herink is up as well, and has moved in front of me in a protective stance. He may not like me very much as his Alpha, especially for what I did to Abby, but he is a loyal member of my pack and this proves it once and for all. He is actually willing to protect me from this danger, even though none of us knows what we are up against.
"Relax my children." The female says. Her voice has a whisper of a cool night under the full moon, parred with the howls of the pack. She is gorgeous, and tall, with an aura I have never encountered before. Jackson purrs in my mind, which he never does.
’It’s the moon goddess, you dumbass.’ He snickers before I fall to my knees. Henrik, who’s wolf, probably has told him the same thing, falls right beside me.
"Great Mother, I didn’t recognise you. For that, I am terribly sorry." I say sincerely. The woman laughs and beckons us to stand.
"I have taken no ill will, son of Fenrir." She says and a small frown shows upon her face.
"But I am disappointed in you, Daemon. Never had I intended for you to become as cruel and coldhearted as your father. I had hoped that the unfair execution of Mallory you would distant yourself from him. I never expected you to reject poor Abigail as publicly as you did. It was uncalled for, my son." She says, her voice is not raised or angry, but quiet and disappointment swims in every word. I feel small under the stare of the Great Mother of all wolves and Jackson is whimpering in my head, head low and tail between his legs.
"I. I. But.." The words keep stuck in my throat. I actually disappointed our goddess. Damn. I was a lousy Alpha.
"I am trying to make up for my past mistakes, Mother." She waves a hand.
"Oh, pish posh with the titles. My names is Selene, and I am here partially to make you understand some things, to offer my help and to make sure that stubborn Queen to Abigail actually listens to you." She sits down in one of my guest chairs and we do the same. Henrik beside Selene and me opposite them. Wait, did she say Abby is a Queen? What the hell. frёeweɓηovel.coɱ
"I’m sorry, Selene. Did you call my daughter Queen?" Henrik asks before I can get to it. She nods curtly.
"Of course she is! Mallory was the Queen of Witches, and Galaxy is the Queen of wolves, so in conclusion, Abigail is the Queen of both witches and wolves." She states, looking at us funny.
This was definitely a turn of events I didn’t expect. I threw away a Queen for a mate, because my father told me to. I shook my head and hid it in my hands. Seriously, I’m useless. free𝑤ebnovel.com
"Nah, uh, don’t blame or pity yourself there, boy. I paired you and Abigail, because I needed her to leave this judgemental pack to find her true mate. But even though you rejected and humiliated her in public, her obligation to her pack was strong and she stayed. Even I didn’t see that coming." She explains. So this means that Abby and I never were meant to be together. Somehow I felt betrayed, but also very relieved. I look up at the goddess, the question on the tip of my tongue, but I’m so afraid of the answer.
