Chapter 299: Chapter 299 One Year Later

Kiara

One Year Later

"Mama!" I open one eye to look over at my son, who is currently trying to crawl over his passed out father. I smile at him, my heart happy and full.

"Come here, baby." I whisper, opening my arms for him to cuddle up to me. Maze just turns over to the other side and snores lightly. I swallow a giggle. My poor husband is dead tired after he came home in the wee hours of the night. He has been out hunting down the last conspirators and enemies we didn’t get when the war raged.

"Mama, hungee." Marco says in a whine, and I sigh with a smile.

"Alright, little one. Let me get dressed, and we’ll go to your room and get ready for today before breakfast." He nods eagerly, and I tenderly kiss his forehead. "Let daddy sleep, baby. He is very tired."

"Okay mama." I kiss his cheek this time, and he lets out a tiny toddle giggle. Goddess this kid makes my heart burst with love! I never knew I wanted to be a mother until the day we found out I was pregnant and even carried the next generation King and Alpha. Our parents went totally grandparent overboard with everything, and has been a huge blessing with Marco. They are always there whenever duties to the people demand our attention. This last year has been a rollercoaster of duties, battles to keep the power and cleaning out the bad elements that moved in the shadows.

I get back into the bedroom, and lift Marco into my arms. He snuggles in with his favorite teddy - an all black wolf. He got it from Frida, who as his godmother adores the shit out of him. Alastair sometimes complains that she loves our son more than she does him. That is until they got a daughter a couple of months ago. He is completely smitten with the little girl. He conceded that he was wrong. She loves their daughter and Marco more than she loves him. That made everyone roar with laughter.

"Come on, little one. Let’s get ready for the day." Marco just hums into my neck, which is just adorable. We walked to his room just next door, and he picked his own clothes for the day. After getting dressed, brushing our teeth and brushing our hair, we go down the stairs together. Marco in my arms again. He is getting better at walking, and better at talking, though it’s just simple words or sounds yet. Hungry was his first word. Typical werewolf child, right?

In the kitchen Abby and Matt take Marco from me and shoo me to go eat with the others. I just stare at them.

"You guys don’t have to take him. I was fine." I tell him, but Abby just rolls her eyes.

"We’re eating with the other grandparents. Now go! You have people to catch up. The other girls are already there." She says, smiling at her grandson. She adores him, and I think she is over the moon by the fact that he actually lives in the packhouse with her. She and Matt have talked about moving to a cottage on the packgrounds, but I am not sure that will ever happen. Marco waves at me.

"Bee bee, mama." He says and I laugh. He is trying so hard to say bye, but he sounds like he is saying bee instead. I wave back and blow him an air kiss.

"See you later, baby." I holler after them as they leave the kitchen. I shake my head at their antics. Lately they have been stealing him more and more, which is lovely because I can get shit done, but also annoying because we are his parents and sometimes it doesn’t feel like we are. Snickers and laughs make me turn around to see the others. None of them have their children with them.

"Grandparents stole your kiddos as well?" I ask with a laugh, and they nod.

"I sometimes feel like I am just the milk supplier for Cameron." Callie says, rolling her eyes. Their son is just shy of a month old, and he is already being stolen all the time by the twins’ parents.

"Alright, come on. I have an update about last night." Everyone filed into the dining room, and I fixed a plate for myself before following them.

"Let me start by saying thank you!" I look at each of the girls. They are sending me variations of confused looks. "You are all mothers now, which means the guys are fathers, and yet you don’t let anything get you down. You live up to the rank you have in the pack, with the people and as parents. Maze and I are both grateful for the contribution the guys have given us, but you as well. It’s not easy to be the one left behind." Everyone nods. "Last night they raided a rogue camp, which held the last of the missing Council members. They were all killed on sight." A collective sigh of relief can be heard in the quiet room.

"So, they are all gone?" Frida asks, looking at me intently. ƒrēewebnoѵёl.cσm

"Yes, they are all gone. After we raided their secret location just after Marco was born, some of them escaped. We got their images from the minds of those we captured with the help of our witch allies. You know we have been hunting them ever since. Now they are gone, and we decided to kill them on sight instead of dragging it out with a trial. They deserved what they got." The girls all nod again, but otherwise they stay silent. I take this opportunity to eat some of my food while it’s still hot.

"Then now what?" Elena asks, rubbing her swollen belly. She is the only one who hasn’t given birth yet, and she is pregnant with twins. Two boys. She is due any day, which is why we kept the triplets near the packhouse last night on border duty, so they could get to her if she went into labor. We’re not completely heartless or brainless.

"Now we have work to do. We still have dissatisfied members of different packs to convince of our rule, the transition of the foxes and shadow folks aka demons etc. And we need to keep on our toes, and work on our relationship with our allies. There is never going to be a boring moment. But for now? Go to your men and appreciate they don’t have to leave for a dangerous mission any time soon hopefully.

Everyone agrees and they stand to go back to their mates. Elena stays in her seat, and at first I don’t think anything of it, so I just keep eating. But then I notice she is awfully quiet. I look up. She is deadly pale, beads of sweat on her forehead. I jump to my feet and hurry to her side. freёwebnovel.com

"Elena? Honey, are you okay?" I ask, but she shakes her head.

"My water broke." She says through gritted teeth. "I think... AAH!" Shit! She’s in labor. I almost laugh at the irony of the entire situation.

’WAKE UP YOU THREE!’ I scream to the triplets in a mindlink, just as a sleepy Maze walks in.

"Hi baby. Where is Marco?" He quickly surveys the situation, curses, and grabs Elena carrying her bridal style.

’What the hell, Kiara. What is it?’ Joram’s groggy voice sounds in my head.

’Grab Elena’s baby bag. She’s in labor asshole. Get to the hospital. NOW!’ The last part is yelled in my Luna Queen tone, and I feel him wide awake through the link. He doesn’t answer, but he doesn’t have to. I know he is waking his brothers. I mindlink the hospital as I follow my mate and a panting Elena.

Never a dull moment for sure.
