Chapter 280: Chapter fifty 280 Make The Most Of It
Maze
"Do you think someone is coming to guide us or ask us to move on?" Kiara asks after a while where we have just sat in silence in each other’s arms. I shake my head. I have no idea.
"I don’t know, but I am not going anywhere without you!" I tell her fiercely, and she chuckles.
"I wasn’t expecting you to, baby." She says, running her hands through my hair. I sigh and melt further into her.
’We have been told to stay here until things are resolved in the mortal realm.’ Winter says in our mind, and my eyes snap to her.
"Who has told you that?" I ask, sitting up, making Kiara groan from the loss of complete contact.
"I have told them." Someone says from the side and I recognize the voice. Selene. As we look to the side Selene and Inari are walking to where we are sitting. They sit down, their movement so fluent and graceful I feel clumsy just sitting down.
"You are not going to move on to the underworld, Maze. I would never take you away from your people in this urgent time." Selene says, and her tone makes me narrow my eyes. Something about the way she is smiling and her eyes are glistening makes my stomach churn.
"What did you do this time?" I ask. My tone of voice makes Kiara react, and she moves seamlessly into my lap to keep me calm. Havoc growls from behind us, and she automatically reaches a hand out and fists it in his fur to calm him down as well.
"I did what was necessary to make our friend seem loyal and our enemy think they have the upper hand." Selene says with a smug smile. Inari rolls her eyes.
"We.." She points to her sister and herself. "Made sure that you would get the final upper hand over the enemy, who has been very cunning and resourceful until now. He is going to move up his plans and attack within the next couple of days, which is when you will return to your people." Kiara and I share a look before my mate completely loses her patience.
"YOU GAVE HER THE BLADE THAT WOULD TEMPORARILY KILL US BOTH? ARE YOU COMPLETELY OUT OF YOUR FUCKING MINDS? WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK IS WORNG WITH YOU TWO?!" Kiara screams in their faces making Selene sigh and Inari scrunch up her face.
"Now listen here Kiara..."
"I am done ever listening to anything you two are saying! You lost your fucking marbles this time. You forced us to abandon our people in the middle of a very important meeting with fellow Alpha’s, not to mention our people think we are dead. What about our packbond? Our bond with all our subjects? They have to have broken the second we died. I am NEVER going to forgive either of you!" I turn her face and place it over my heart. frёeweɓηovel.coɱ
’Easy, my love. I agree with you, but right now we cannot do anything about what they already have done. We can only move forward right now. We need to do that for ourselves and our people. All of them!’ I mindlink her, feeling how she relaxes under my touch. Inari jumps to her feet, turns on her heel and walks away. Selene just shakes her head.
"You are right, Kiara. But at the moment we did not have any choice other than to do it this way if we wanted to protect you. As for the bond to your people. You are not dead - you are in a coma. You did die for a minute to get you here, but then we could bind you to stay here and restart your heart. Same goes for Maze. Your matebond is intact. As is what you have with everyone else." She looks between us with an unreadable expression. "And they already got the antidote from our friend, who has explained, with the help of yours truly, what happened. She doesn’t need any blowback right now. Your anger is rightful, but it’s with me and Inari, not with her. Magoth was trying her loyalty and she needed to prove herself."
Selene rises as well. She nods to us.
"Make the most of it. Time is different here, and I have a feeling you will not be alone for long. You have family who has access to this place, Maze." Then she disappears from her spot, while Kiara sobs into my shirt. She breaks down, the feelings culminating inside of her, and I cannot blame her. Havoc snorts as he comforts Winter who is as distraught as her counterpart. They have a very developed sense of duty to our people and what is expected of them. And this is not it.
