Chapter 182: Chapter 182 Round One - Dragon Lore
Amber’s POV
"Both participants will obey the inner laws of a challenge, and from this moment on you are both equal. Amber you will from this moment and until the challenge is won not be able to use your Royal status, nor will you be able to use the powers of your mates statuses. Understood?" Berion’s voice is deep and serious. I know he doesn’t like this one bit, but as the Dragon Wise he has to be impartial.
"I understand, Dragon Wise." I reply with his title instead of his name. I don’t want anyone to feel he has a partial opinion in this case.
"Josephine of the East, you will not gain any status, powers or mates if the challenge is not won. Do you understand?" She nods as well. "You both understand the terms of the challenge?" We both nod this time. We agreed on the terms ourselves, and Chase told them to Berion, who then put them down into a sacred and unbreakable contract, which we both signed after arriving here. "Let the challenge begin."
Josephine straightens up, her eyes determined and I know she honestly thinks this is going to be to her advantage. She is really stupid in that department, but I must admire her guts to actually take me on. Even Keres will have second thoughts about taking me on at the moment. She must still be enjoying my parting gift in her own world, because she has been unusually quiet lately.
"I will give you both questions from our laws, lores and history until one of you is incapable of answering. The other must then answer the question your opponent is not able to, to win this round. Are you both ready?" We both answer yes, and as my eyes sweep over the crowds I can see how salesmen and women are taking big advantage of the situation to sell foods, drinks and even betting people going around, taking money and jotting down the bet. To my surprise both Chase and Blaze place a bet with a younger guy. He laughs at their choice, says something and shrugs at their answer. I wonder if they bet on me, or Josephine. I will kick their asses if they bet against me. freēwēbnovel.com
’They wouldn’t dare to bet against us, Amber. Have a little faith in them.’ Ignis pipes up. She’s been really quiet since I entered the challenge, and I thought we couldn’t communicate while in the sacred circle.
’How are you able to talk to me? We shouldn’t be able to, Ignis.’ I ask and she laughs.
’Oh, please. Like something as weak as this would keep me from talking to my girl. Psst. Their spells are glorious to look at for the crowd, and it may keep a lesser shifter from communicating with their beast, but we are the Queen - the Queen of THREE factions nonetheless. I’m not going to bow down to something like this.’ She rolls her eyes, and I have to hide my laughter at her answer. She’s becoming a snob.
"Amber of the Royal court, your first question is as follows; Who is the goddess that created the Dragons, what is she called and how do we call upon her every year."
"The goddess is that of the sun, you are her children and born in her picture. Her name is Solei and you call upon her every year during the Sun festival where the sun and moon meet in the high sky." Berion smiles.
"Correct."
"Josephine of the East, your first question is as follows; Where did the dragons live before our current realm, what was it called, how many Kings were there and why did we move." She lifts an eyebrow.
"We lived in the human realm before moving to our new one. It’s called Deam Humane, we had four Kings and we moved because those ignorant bastards to humans chased us, killed us and tried to take advantage of our magic abilities."
"Correct, however keep your own opinion to yourself in the future." frёewebηovel.cѳm
"Amber, how many Kingdoms are there in our realm, are they still independent, who were the first Kings of our realm after moving and who are the current Kings."
"There are four Kingdoms, however they are not independent anymore as the King, Prince and myself are moving to have them under one rule, which succeeded not long ago. The first Kings were; Cillian of the West, Orin of the East, Dallos of the South and Malyn of the North. The current regents of the four quarters are; King Chase of the West, Oron of the East, Damien of the South and Queen Regent Adalia of the North ruling in the stead of her son."
"Correct."
The questions continue for the next hour. Both me and Josephine are well educated in the laws, lore and history of the Dragons. People switch from side to side after each question, but I do notice more and more cheering and rooting every time I answer a question correctly. They get more difficult after each round, and Josephine is getting annoyed by my extensive knowledge of this topic. I think she’s beginning to regret choosing this as one of the rounds. I know levitating will be difficult, so I have to get this right to have a chance of winning, but I am very confident in my own abilities.
"Josephine, what is the name of the most recent traitor in the Royal family, who was he conspiring with, why and who defeated him in the end and how." Berion has taken a part of history so current is not really counted as history yet. But I know he did this on purpose because this question I will be able to take over easily.
"He wasn’t a traitor but a hero." She says, crossing her arms in contempt. "I want another question, this is cheating." Her eyes never leaves Berion’s but he doesn’t waver.
"We discussed these questions within the judges circle, and we all deemed this appropriate as it is the most recent of our history, a valuable lesson for all who contemplates this approach to the Royals in the future. But if you think it’s cheating we will take it to the public." Although I can’t hear them, I can see the crowd has gone eerily silent from Berions words. "All those in favor of giving Josephine another question raise their hands." A handful of people raise their hands, showing us they agree with the judges decision. "All those who are in favor of Josephine answering the question as it is a vital part of recent history, raise your hands." The majority of the crowd raise their hands. Josephine stomps the ground in anger.
"I refuse to answer." She says, her arms still crossed.
"Amber?"
"The traitor’s name was Callus, the former King of the East. He conspired with his sister and her son. He wanted a dragon shifter on the throne and not me. I defeated him on the ground using my powers and wits in a fair battle of our lives."
"Correct. Amber wins the first round."
