Chapter 179: Chapter 179 The Crazy People
Amber’s POV
"You’ve been told what?" Chase and Blaze say behind me. They are both outraged at the audacity of some people and how it somehow is always my fault.
"I’m sorry my King, my Prince, but this is what is being told outside the Capitol. The Queen is someone who stole you both from your destined mate, Glaciel, and she had to settle with the Captain of the guard. And then the Queen has proven to be a battle and war hungry woman, who will be cruel to anyone and everyone who votes against her." She shakes her head. "I never imagined you to be so.. Sweet and kind. They way you handled Rowan running into you like that. You didn’t flinch or yell or kick out. You cared." She actually smiles now. "He’s all I have left. My husband joined the forces to come here and help when we were attacked by the demons, and he died." I put a hand on her shoulder.
"What is your last name, Yuri?" I ask, and the woman looks utterly confused.
"Matheson. Why?" I smile at her.
"There is a Gerome Matheson on the list of casualties from the battle, and he will, amongst everyone else who sacrificed themselves to save our Kingdom, be honored by a memorial in all the four parts of the Kingdom." She gasps again, her hand flying to her mouth.
"You remember the names of the ones lost?" She asks, and I nod.
"They came to aid us in a great time of need. The least we can do is to remember them and honor them." She moves so quickly I’m not even sure what she’s doing before I’m in her embrace.
"Thank you, my Queen. I will tell everyone who will listen to me, that you are good, kind, caring and one of us. Thank you!" She turns around and hurries back to where her and Rowan came from.
"What the hell happened?" I ask my mates as I go back to sit between them. They both shake their heads. None of us are sure what just happened, but it seemed like we just gained another supporter to our changes. The question still remains though. Why is someone spreading lies about us? Well, about me? And who is the person or are there multiple? They have told people that Glaciel is the guy’s destined mate, but that is as far from the truth as it can be. Her mate is Tristan, and he would be either devastated or absolutely outraged if he knew the rumors. I look at one of the guards keeping us company just in case. I rack my brain for his name. It’s getting hard, and I can’t even imagine how it’ll be when I get further along.
"Brendan, right?" I ask the young man, and he nods his eyes smiling at the recognition of his name. "Please don’t report anything from today back to the Captain. If he asks, send him straight to me or my mates. He doesn’t need to let anger or any other emotions out on you. This goes for everyone." Brendan nods again, and so does the others. His eyes cloud over, and I know he is informing those who pose as normal people in the market today.
After Chase opened the market with a small speech, people clap politely and go about their day. Most of them don’t even look at me or Blaze. They keep their eyes on Chase, and some of the younger women even have the guts to eyefuck my man in front of me. Especially one of them keeps racking her eyes over Chase, sending me smug looks afterwards, only to repeat again. Ignis is clawing to be let out and teach the slut a lesson, but I can’t show that side of me. Instead I walk up to Chase, kiss him and take his arm to walk around when he’s done with his duties. Both of my mates can clearly feel the inner battle with my wolf, because Blaze takes my other arm and mind-links me to calm down. Chase pecks my lips, whispering sweet words in my ear. I laugh, feeling kind of silly, but the anger dwells within. I swallow it down, keeping a smiling and relaxed face outwards. fгeewёbnoѵel.cσm
We walk around the market, guards following loosely, but close enough to protect us if necessary, knowing full well we can protect ourselves. We stop at random stands, looking at the merchandise being offered, and buying some here and there. My eyes catch a glimmer, and I steer my mates in that direction. We are about to reach the stand where I see two beautiful golden bracelets I want to get for my girls, when the woman from before stands in our way. She gives me a disgusted look before curtseying before Chase. She ignores Blaze completely, which he seems fine with.
"Your Majesty, what an honor to have you at our market today. Maybe I could have the honor to show you around?" She says in a sickly sugar sweet voice. Why is it that women have to behave this way? I’m being accused of stealing my mates from another, and that’s a total lie, but people are swallowing it and blame me for it. But here is another little slutty bitch trying to actually do what I am being accused of, and no one bats an eye.
"I’m sorry young miss, but I am walking with my mate and my brother and it would be rude of me to abandon them." She lifts a perfect eyebrow and smiles like a cougar who locked in on her pray.
"I’m sure your mate wouldn’t mind at all. What does she have to fear from a small town girl like me?" Wow, she’s good. She looks out from under her lashes, the pure picture of innocence, and I know where she is going with this.
"Of course I wouldn’t mind, but at this time I’ll have to decline as we have promised to buy our children a present, and visit Madam Yuri and her son Rowan. The King promised Rowan a story later in the day." A lie, but they don’t know that. The woman’s mouth frowned. She doesn’t have a comeback for this. "But you are welcome to come with us and tell the boy his promise can’t be upheld because you want the King for yourself, miss?" She stares daggers at me before turning on her heel and walking away.
At the stand we buy the bracelets for the girls, small talking to the woman who owns the things on display. She and her daughters have made them themselves, and I ask her if she would be willing to work in the castle to make our wedding bands?
"Are you sure, my Queen? I am a small business. I’m sure someone more prominent would be more suitable?"
"I would love for you to make them. These are beautiful, and this way you could maybe gain more customers? If that is what you like?" She smiles and thanks me, her eyes sparkling with happiness.
"You are truly a Queen of the people." She says taking my hand and squeezing it. I ask the woman her name, and then the directions to Yuri’s stand. She points us in the direction and we go on our way nodding and greeting people on the way. Most have been observing our encounter with the rude woman and our encounter with the trades woman. Some smile and greets us back with a ’have a good day’ or ’the goddesses blessing’ and some seem indifferent. Then there are those who are openly hostile. We take it all, being polite and kind towards all.
As we reach Yuri’s place in the market, we notice some dodgy elements keeping in the distance, but closing in enough for a guards to do the same. The same woman from before is once again in front of us, but this time she brought an elderly woman with her. Her smirk is very unpleasant, but all three of us keep the masks of politeness on.
"So, this is the unnatural Queen." She spits in front of me. "I curse you, wolf girl! You are no Queen of ours. Go back to the hell from where you came. I curse you!" She yells so loud it harnesses attention even from the most deaf of elders. I restrain from rolling my eyes. Here we go again with the crazy people.
