Chapter 177: Chapter 177 Big sisters and Selene’s Story
Amber’s POV
"So, who wants to start?" I ask the room, sitting down on the floor with the girls. Chase and Blaze do the same, looking at Melody and Elina with a smile. Neither of the girls look at us, and what I fear the most is happening in front of my eyes. They think we’ll replace them.
"Are you sending us back with aunty?" Elina asks, tears sliding down her cheek. I wipe them away genty, lifting her into my lap and hugging her tight.
"Is that what you want, baby girl?" I reply, rocking her slowly. She shakes her head vigorously.
"No, but..."
"But what, Elina?" She looks at me for the first time, her eyes big and red from the tears. It pulls at my heartstrings seeing my daughters this way. This baby was supposed to be a happy thing, something we could celebrate as a family, but now? Keres kidnapped them before we could tell them ourselves. I hope we can explain everything, so it, with time, can become something all of us are looking forward to.
"But. You are having your own baby. Why would you keep us? We are not your babies." She turns her head to her sister who is crying quietly, sitting in Chase’s lap. I sigh.
"I did not birth you, no. But you are our daughters! We adopted you because we love you, and we would never ever give you away just because we are having another baby. You are going to be the most amazing big sisters! But, if you want to stay because of the baby, we will not force you to."
"You want to keep us AND the baby?" Melody asks with a hoarse voice. I reach over and wipe her tears as well.
"Of course! Girls, you are our daughters - biologically or not, we love you!" Blaze takes the girl’s hands in his, placing it over his heart. "Do you feel this?" He asks, and they both nod. "That is my heart beating for you and your little sister or brother. Our hearts have enough room to love all of you."
We stay on the floor until I get a mind-link from Maze. Selene has arrived in the small meeting room, and we need to go there. Melody and Elina are more calm now, and slowly accepting the fact that we are not going to give them up - no matter what. They tell us Keres has told them we arranged for them to be kidnapped, and that we didn’t want them anymore. She kept telling them how worthless they were, and how no one would ever love them. My blood boils for the injustice done to my children, but I will tell them everyday how much I love them, and how amazing they’ll be at being big sisters, if that is what they need. We huddle together on the floor, having a family hug, before we need to go. The girls ask if they can come with us, and I don’t want them to feel rejected, so we agree.
In the meeting room everyone else is waiting, including a nervous looking Selen. She’s not been looking at anyone apparently, but her head snaps up when we walk in. Her eyes move to the girls, and I cross my arms before she can even open her mouth.
"They are staying." I state, sitting down between my mates, who again has a girl on each lap. They find most comfort in touching one of us.
"Okay, now that everyone is here, I will tell you why I am here, do it shortly and be on my way. This is a dangerous way for me to go, but I needed Amber to not burn down everything in Kere’s world, and this was the only solution she seemed to listen to." She shoots me a look, and I shrug my shoulders. I do not care even a bit about the snarky comment, I left a surprise for Keres and she will see or feel it every time she decides to be directly involved with something sinister. That’ll perhaps teach her to keep her hands in her pockets and let things go their own way. As no one answers her, Selene takes a deep breath.
"I promised to come here before you all and explain what is going on. I can only do a small amount of that, seeing as I don’t want to ruin the future you still have a chance of living." I open my mouth to protest - that was not part of our deal.
"But! I will tell you how this all started. We were once living in harmony amongst each other - us goddesses and our children. Especially right after we moved you all here to this realm, away from the prying eyes of the humans who haunted you for your powers and abilities. As much as you hurt, it hurt us as well. But some time after the great move, Keres grew angry that her children never seemed to get the same opportunities as everyone else. Monica, Ophelia, Solei and I rarely paired one of her children to be mates with one of ours. Solei, being our mother, had her own way of doing things completely, and she told some of the old dragons they weren’t supposed to mingle with outsiders, as to keep the bloodline pure and the battles she saw everywhere else, at bay. It was wrong. It caused so much heartache over the centuries, because she didn’t tell anyone else. We kept pairing the dragons with our own children, only for them to get rejected every time, or killed. And those who went against the common belief, were outcasted or killed. We were devastated." She takes another breath. Everyone is listening with utmost attention, longing to hear a valid reason for this mess. freewebnoveℓ.com
"Over the centuries Keres distanced herself from all of us. She grew more and more angry, and the more angry she became, the more evil and ruthless her children became. You are an image of your goddess, and we all try to stay as neutral as possible. We have a meeting every 100 years or so, all of us. Usually it’s just to look each other in the eyes, make sure we are still on the same page and be scolded by Solei and told we are a disappointment. But at this last meeting Keres declared war on all of us. She wants her children to move out of the dark and take over - or rather the over with the dark. Monica, Ophelia and I decided to work together and create a bloodline that can match Keres and her own bloodline." She looks at mom and dad, who in turn scowls back.
"You used me, my mate and our family for your own gain? What a fucking shocker." Mom declares with all the attitude, and I have to agree with her. This is becoming too much.
"We need someone who can fight back on her terms, Abby. We knew you would be special, and.." Mom holds up a hand.
"Get on with it, Selene. I don’t want to hear your excuses for using people." Selene looks disappointed for a second, but then it’s gone.
"Keres is going to wage war on the realm, and it’s up to your family to stop her." She says at last, and then with a bright silver light she’s gone.
We all agreed to talk tomorrow. This revelation is a surprise to some, but not all. Maze and I knew in a way, but to have Selene say it so blatantly. No! This is for another day. Tonight I will hold my children and mates close. Worrying will only be bad for the baby, and I already knew this would be the way.
’We will be ready when the time comes. For now we need to rest and be happy. We have a wedding to plan, babies that’s growing and a family that loves us.’
’Did you just say babies as in plural, Ignis?’
’Uhm, no.’
’Yes, you did! You said babies are growing. Are we having more than one? But...’
’Nope. Bye.’ She disappears in the depths of my mind, not answering more questions. Fucking great!
