Chapter 144: Chapter 144 Traitor
Blaze’s POV ƒгeeweɓn૦vel.com
"What the actual fuck. AMBER, MELODY, ELINA?!"
"Blaze, where are you, man? Someone get the light on, right this instant!"
"Chase! I’m here! I can’t find the girls." The panic in my voice is prominent, and I can hear Chase breathe heavily, while trying to figure out how to turn the lights on again. They are lit up by magic, and when they went out I instantly knew something was wrong - then Melody and Elina scream bloody murder, and none of them are responding to my calls. You should think, being able to see underwater and even in the deepest and darkest of water, I should be able to see in this darkness - but no...
After a little while the lights flicker on, and a collective sigh of appreciation goes through everyone. I look around to find my woman and my children, but they are nowhere to be seen. My eyes keep moving frantically over the crowd of royals and nobles, but no matter how much I try, they are just not there.
Chase put a hand on my shoulder.
"Do you see them?" He asks hopefully, but I shake my head. The thought of our mate being gone, again, runs through both of our heads. Then Chase roars, and slams his hand onto the table near us.
"Why does she get kidnapped all the time? How can Í... She needs to be okay, Blaze. She needs to be okay." I pull him into a bro hug. We are feeling the same things here, but the emotions are so much stronger in my brother due to his earlier fuck up.
People are staring at us, but we give them no notice. We are both deep in thought, when someone clears their throat.
"My King, my Prince. I can be of help. I know who and where. Unfortunately, I helped with the when." Helenius says with a shaky voice. Chase growls fiercely, but I stop him. We need this dufus to help us, not get killed before he tells us where our mate and children are. King Daron and Kind Mesus grab Helenius before he can think twice about leaving instead of helping.
’You need to get it together, man. He is going to help us find Amber and the girls, and we need him alive. I don’t care if you kill him afterward, but right now he is our only lead.’ I mind-link Chase in a stern voice. He chokes on a cry and tears are streaming down his cheeks, but when he lifts his head, there is a determination in there I haven’t noticed before.
"Talk!" He orders with a new power in his voice, and Helenius bows his head from the position his captures have him in.
Out of my eyes, I see King Darons mother, and the Queen of the East trying to sneak away, and I mind-link Tristan to have some of his men grab them before they disappear. The King doesn’t seem to notice his Queen sneaking away, and this is indeed curious. I am not as well versed in magic as my little moon, but I know enough to know something is up with those women - especially the young one.
I tune in on the conversation between Chase and Helenius.
"... he said I would be rewarded to get the fake Queen and her brats out of the way, and I wanted nothing more than to obey his orders. He’s always been kind to me, and you... We haven’t had a good relationship, ever, so I thought nothing of it." Helenuis is heaving for air. "I’m so sorry. After the Queen... She was so nice to me, when I have been nothing but rude, and then she told me she knew. She knew, and she wasn’t angry. I’m so sorry." Chase and I exchange a look. Amber knew what exactly?
Before we can get anything more out of Helenius, screams of curses fly through the room as King Daron’s mother and the Eastern Queen get dragged in front of us by the guards.
"What is the meaning of this, Tristan?" Chase asks, confused.
"My King, my apologies for this interruption, but the Prince made me aware the two ladies tried to sneak away in the confusion, and we apprehended them outside of the dining room. Seems like they are both in on the kidnapping." Tristan answers with a bow of his head. Just then the door to the hall bursts open and Ezra runs to us, nostrils flaring and eyes wild.
"I thought you were supposed to take care of her! Keep her safe!" He yells, and I just take it in. He is worried, and I can’t blame him.
"Tristan, take the ladies to the cells, and make sure only trusted men guard them."
"Maybe we should use the magic cells on these esteemed ladies, brother?" I say as an afterthought. Chase nods, and the guards take the screaming women with them. I pay them no notice for now, because we need to find Amber before uncovering the full aspect of this scheme. King Oron appears, his eyes unfocused and he is looking from one to another.
"What happened here?" He asks in a voice that’s drowsy and by now I’m certain something is very wrong.
"King Oron, we will explain everything, but for now we are going to bed and I suggest you do the same." The King nods, and heads to the door without even a glance around him. I need to have Amber take a look at him, and then speak of my goddess. freёweɓnovel.com
I turn my glance on Helenius. He is still being detained by the two Kings, who are looking more and more confused by the minute. I notice that Daron hasn’t spoken a word or asked about his mother’s capture, and I make yet another mental note to ask him about it later. He doesn’t seem like the type to be involved in such things.
"Helenius, show us where they took her," I say in a soft voice. He looks at me and nods. Utterly broken and defeated. I gesture for the Kings to let him go, and after a nod from Chase, they stand back.
Helenuis leads us to a trapdoor in the wall, he opens it and goes in with all four of us hot on his heels. Chase’s eyes cloud over momentarily, and I know he asked the staff to lead the guests to their rooms and keep an eye on them. We need to weed out this conspiracy before someone gets badly hurt or killed.
Down in the hallway, there are signs of struggle, and then we hear a moan of pain from further into the hall. Chase runs there, only to find an injured and abandoned Gia laying on the floor. She looks like herself, but her clothes are of the court of the South. Daron growls when I grab her, and as I look at him my eyes widen.
"Is she your mate, King Daron?" I ask, and he nods.
"She’s a traitor, and will be sentenced to death, Daron. I’m sorry." Chase says, putting his hands on the angry King’s shoulder.
"I thought my mate was in that room, but I couldn’t point her out. Now I know why. She was disguised with magic." An angry tear rolled down his cheek. "Imprison her. I will deal with her later. She doesn’t deserve to be my Queen, when she can cause harm to others like this." I mind-link a guard, who takes the unconscious Gia away to the cells.
Helenius leads us further into the hallway, and as it widens out we hear conversation from ahead of us. We all stop dead in our tracks, and Loch surfaces to enhance our hearing.
"... there were two, and now there’s none. How can two little brats get away from you? Weren’t you watching them? We need them! They are going with traders in the morning... FIND THEM!" The voice yells the last part. My heart speeds up. Melody and Elina escaped their captors. That’s my girl.
We follow the one who yelled in silence, hoping he can lead us to Amber. Then we just need to track down the girls afterward.
’Blaze. That voice. That was our father. I’m sure of it, but it sounded off. As if he is not trying to hide his true self anymore. Like that was his real voice. I have never really known him. Have I?’
’We’ll get justice for us, for mother, and for Amber and the girls, Chase. Does it hurt more that he hid himself from you or his treason to his sons?’
’Both! But the treason weighs more.’ Chase closes the mind-link as Callus, unknowingly, leads us to his hideaway.
We’re coming Amber, hold on just a little more. We’re coming.
