Chapter 131: Chapter 131 History Lessons
Amber’s POV ƒгeewёbnovel.com
After the little history lesson, I have a lot to think about. Everything Berion told me adds to what I was told by Glaciel that day on the balcony. Everything came back to her mother and Chase’s father. Why would the old King force his son to take a chosen mate, when his own was a dragon and came, however, cast out, from an old line of wealthy and noble dragons? It made zero sense, as they had been pardoned and given back their old titles, money, and land, when Callus accented the throne, securing his original mate and her family’s former glory. It was all very suspicious to me.
As I’m sitting in the bathtub scrubbing down to look my best for dinner, I think back to the conversation between Berion and me after Blaze left to cool off by the lake. He wanted to be alone, and I respected his request knowing I would want him to do it for me in such a situation.
"Berion, what was Chase’s mother’s name?" The old dragon looks taken slightly aback by my question.
"You don’t know?" He asks incredulously, and I shake my head.
"You only refer to her as the late Queen, and Chase to her as mother. But no one ever told me her actual name."
"Her name was Amber, just like you, my dear. You will be Queen Amber the Second to the dragons - although you are also Queen Amber the First to your other subjects." He answers, and I raise an eyebrow.
"Are you serious? How much of a quincedent is it that me and Chase’s mother are named the same?" Berion laughs.
"Not much, when you take the goddess who paired you into the equation." He answers with amusement, lacing his voice. I scoff. Selene. I should have known.
"What about our looks? The same or different?" I just have to know.
"You have some similarities. Remind me to show you a picture of her one of these days. I was not aware the Prince hadn’t shown you or talked about his mother. I must have a conversation with him about this."
"Please don’t. He’s getting engaged, and I am not one to stand in his way. He will probably tell his new fiancé all about his mother." Berion pats my knee.
"Silly girl! The Prince is only doing this to appease his father. He doesn’t care about that girl! But you, my dear. He has been dreaming of the day you would come to live with us. Much to his father’s chagrin, I might add."
"Yeah, that might be, Berion. But he didn’t bargain for another mate of mine. He’s been abundantly clear that he wants me to reject Blaze, which I have no intention of doing."
The old dragon had looked sad for a moment when I mentioned Chase’s adamant requests for me to reject my other half, before hiding it. He had smiled and promised everything would be okay.
After my bath, I got ready by myself. I chose a golden off the shoulder dress. It accented my body nicely, and I paired it with black sparkly heels. My makeup is light, but with golden accents as well. I look myself over in the mirror and I smile. This will do very nicely for tonight’s occasion. My hair I have put into two braids going from my head to my lower back.
A knock on my door interrupts my train of thought, and I open it to reveal Blaze. He looks me up and down, licks his lips, and growls.
"Are you sure we should not just stay here? You look like a nice entree, main course, and dessert all in one!" His eyes keep roaming my body and I giggle. I take his arms and off we go. My stomach clenched in anxiety about what I’m about to do, but I know I do not have much choice if I want a future with both my men. The sparks from Blaze travel to all the right places, and I feel a calm wash over me. He’s here, and we are alright!
As we enter the dining hall all conversation quiets down. All eyes are on us, and then I hear a growl travel through the hall. My eyes snap to the person growling, and they find Chase. He’s looking at me like I’m his prey, and I swell in the feeling of him looking me up and down, taking me in. But then they turn cold, and his demeanor changes completely. He takes Gia’s hand in his, intertwining their fingers, and turns away from me. The knives to my heart the sight of them make me fall apart, almost.
’Ignore them, little moon. You are worth more than everyone in this room. Even me.’ Blaze mind-links. I fastened my hold on his arm.
’Do you trust me, Blaze? Will you follow me to the world’s end?’ I ask back, and he looks down to lock eyes with me.
’I will follow you to the underworld and back again if I had to! You are my entire universe, Amber. I love you!’ My heart melts by his words.
’I’m not going to stay here. I’m going home to my pack. Tonight.’ Blaze nods in understanding.
Then a server announces dinner is ready, but I clear my throat before people can go eat and drink to the happy couple.
"Ladies and gentlemen, I have something to say before we all go and enjoy dinner," I say loud and clear. Chase looks at me puzzled for a moment before masking it. It hurts so much, but I brush it off. He had this coming. Ignis, annoyed and angry at his behavior, actually agrees with me to do this, despite her former protests. I move to Gia and Chase, ignoring the triumphant smirk on my enemy’s face.
"I, Amber, reject you, Prince Chase," I say, making it as close to the real thing as possible and the gasps of surprise drown out everything for a moment. Then Chase falls to his knees in agony, as Calor plays his part of a wounded animal.
"Amber, why?" He asks through gritted teeth. I look down at my hurting mate, and then at the glowing girl.
"Because I deserve someone who will not choose another over something I have no control over, you Highness." I turn around, walking out of the hall the sounds of Chase’s sobs stabbing at me as a thousand needles.
I quickly make my way to my room, where Glaciel and Merida are waiting. They knew of the plan, and they had my things packed. They will stay here and watch over Chase. Merida swore to get me to the border, so she’ll go with me there and wait for Blaze.
We make a hast, and soon Merida and I are at the western border waiting.
All of a sudden Merida screams and falls to her knees, I rush to her but someone grabs my arms. I look back to see a dark woman with eyes as black as the moonless night, and she smiles.
"No, no, no, little Queen. You are coming with me." And then everything goes dark.
