Chapter 129: Chapter 129 Breakdown
Amber’s POV
In my room, Blaze and Berion wait for me. I look between them, only holding onto my sanity by a thread, and when Blaze lays his eyes upon me, he walks straight to me and pulls me into his arms. The sob is louder than I anticipated, which should bother me, but it doesn’t. My heart is breaking into a million pieces at the thought of my mate in the company with that fake ass Barbie doll wannabe.
As Blaze only stands there, taking everything, holding me, and cooing in my ear, my world crumbles down. Suddenly my knees give up the fight to bear my weight, and Blaze scoops me up into his arms entirely and carries me to something he can sit in. When there are no more tears left in my body, I sniffle a while before realizing; no matter what, I still have to face the world. No matter how much my heart aches and I feel like my fire is dying inside me, I have to stay strong for my people and for my other mate. This is not right! Not when Blaze keeps being here for me, and my only focus is the one mate who doesn’t want me all of a sudden.
’He’ll come around, spitfire. We’re his mate, and he will come around. His dragon is furious with his actions, and has been consoling me and talking to our deities ever since Chase lost all sense of reality.’ I internally roll my eyes.
’I don’t even care anymore, Ignis. He made his choice, and he’ll regret poking to the fire, cus there will be a storm coming his way.’
’What do you have in mind?’
’I’m going to reject him during dinner and leave this lousy place.’
’Amber, you can’t!’ Ignis protests, but it is met upon deaf ears.
’I can and I will! If he accepts it, then we’ll still have Blaze, but I doubt he will. It will be me saying "I reject you, Chase." Do you think any of those snobbish ignorants even know how a proper rejection is said? Cus I don’t. I have a feeling, and I need to act on this, Ignis.’
’As long as you don’t say the formal words and actually break our bond with him. I will never forgive...’
’I’m not an imbecile, Ignis. But his stubborn highness needs a lesson and it’s one that’s going to hurt.’ She nods, and says she’ll tell Chase’s dragon about the plan. He’ll play the part of the scorn and rejected animal, to sell the plot even better.
After that is said and done, I look up from Blaze’s shirt, which is soaked with my tears. I put a hand on the shirt, sending small waves of warmth through it until it’s dry and crisp. Blaze chuckles, and I look into his deep gaze - it’s filled with so strong emotions I blush.
"Ahem." Someone clears their throat from the other side of us, and my blush deepens. I had forgotten about the Dragon Wise.
"Forgive me, Dragon Wi..."
"It’s Berion to you child, and I will not hear that terrible formal title out of your mouth again." He interrupts with a smile. I smile back. A real smile, not the polite one I have had plastered all over my face these days.
"Forgive me, Berion. I forgot myself, and that we were in your presence."
"Nonsense, child. I quite enjoy seeing you and that hard headed seashell having a tender moment." He waves dismissively, a glint of amusement in his eyes and a small smile tugging in the corners of his mouth. Blaze makes a protesting sound, and that’s when it dawns on me - I’m still sitting in his lap. Damn! I stand up, while the sound of disapproval increases from Blaze and I have to laugh. I sit in a third chair, right beside my sulking beast, and take his hand.
"What can I do for you both? You were waiting when I came back from my stroll around the castle?"
"First. What did that idiot Prince say to you, that had you in such a frazzle?" I narrow my eyes at Blaze, while Berion scolds his choice of name for Chase. Their interaction reminds me of a grandfather/grandson relationship.
"He... Well, he wants me to reject you, which I refused, of course. Then I slapped him, told him off, and made it clear that I will not reject anyone. And then as I was walking away from that uncomfortable conversation, I ran into that fake Queen wannabe, and she announced their engagement dinner is set for tonight, and made sure to invite me in person, knowing protocol dictates I can’t say no." My eyes are blazing with hidden rage. I want nothing more than to make Gia a pile of ash, and watch the wind sweep her away and out of my eyesight.
"WHAT?!" Blaze yells, jumping up and looking like someone who wants to commit murder as much as me. free𝑤ebnovel.com
"Sit down, and keep your mouth shot, boy." Berion scolds, looking at me with a pained and surprised look on his face. Blaze sits down, his cheeks red, and his breathing uneven. I stroke my thumb over his knuckles and feel how he relaxes under my touch.
"The Prince is no idiot, and he is playing a dangerous game. He sent me here to talk to you - tell you the truth about his actions. But I am also here with a warning and a story to tell you, if you are interested?"
"Please, by all means. If you have an explanation, and it has to be good, as to why one of my mates suddenly seems to not love me anymore and craves another woman. Then I am all ears. But if you are here to make excuses for his actions, then no thank you."
Berion seems far away in thought for a moment, before he sighs.
"I have known both of your mates since birth, your Majesty. And I have to say; even with my abilities of foresight, I did not see this entanglement of fate play out." He shakes his head. "This all started so many generations before any of you young people were born, and I’ll have to start with the beginning. Please bear with me." I nod, his request is not unreasonable. free𝑤ebnovel.com
Berion sends word to the staff, to bring refreshments to my room. He does not tell them he and Blaze are there, it seems, because as the door opens the woman there with a tray has all the attitude in the world, until she realizes I am not alone. Oh, the joy of watching that wrench squirm under the intense gazes of my mate and her most ancient and respected elder.
