Chapter 4: First period (2)
The closer Ryan and I got to the classroom, the more students filled the hallways.
Most ignored us.
The rest stared at the cat ears on my head.
At this point, I was convinced those things had some sort of supernatural ability to attract attention.
Ryan noticed my expression and chuckled.
"Stop looking so depressed. You’ve worn worse things."
"I don’t think that’s helping."
"It should."
It really shouldn’t.
A few moments later, we arrived outside Class 1-A.
According to Adrian’s memories, the six male students weren’t placed in the same classroom. The academy had divided them equally across the three first-year classes.
Ryan and Adrian were in Class 1-A.
Marcus and Ethan were in Class 1-B.
Daniel and Noah were in Class 1-C.
At first, I thought it was strange.
Then I remembered this was Sinners Academy.
Normal decisions weren’t exactly common here.
Ryan pushed open the classroom door and walked inside.
The conversations didn’t stop, but they definitely became quieter. More than a few students glanced in our direction before their eyes immediately settled on the cat ears.
Wonderful.
Exactly the attention I wanted.
Which was none.
Fortunately, Adrian’s memories guided me toward my seat. Four months had already passed since the school year began, so suddenly forgetting where I sat would attract far more attention than I wanted.
I dropped into my chair while Ryan took the seat beside the window.
A familiar notification appeared.
______
Objective Complete
Attend First Period
Reward: +5 Sin Points
Current Sin Points: 5
______
Five points.
My entire fortune consisted of five points.
The system disappeared before anyone noticed.
A girl sitting in front of us suddenly turned around. She had shoulder-length black hair, sharp eyes, and the kind of expression that suggested she noticed more than she let on.
The moment she saw me, she laughed.
"Senior Bianca got you again?"
Ryan answered before I could.
"When doesn’t she?"
The girl nodded as if that explanation made perfect sense.
"Fair enough."
She looked at me.
"Morning, Adrian."
"Morning."
Her name was Emily Parker.
Class representative.
One of the few people who treated Adrian somewhat normally.
That didn’t necessarily make her nice. This was Sinners Academy. Almost everyone had some kind of problem hidden beneath the surface.
Still, compared to most students, Emily was relatively harmless.
At least according to the game’s standards.
She tilted her head.
"You seem quieter than usual."
For a brief second, my heart skipped a beat.
That was close.
Fortunately, Adrian’s memories provided an answer before I had to think too hard.
I rubbed the fading mark on my cheek.
"Bad morning."
Emily immediately noticed.
Her expression became understanding.
"Senior Bianca?"
I nodded.
That was enough explanation.
No further questions followed.
The fact that nobody found the situation unusual was probably the most disturbing part.
More students entered the classroom as time passed.
The room gradually filled with conversation, allowing me to observe everyone without attracting attention.
There were nearly thirty students in Class 1-A.
Twenty-eight girls.
Two boys.
Even knowing the setting beforehand, the ratio still felt ridiculous.
Then again, the entire game revolved around that imbalance.
Sinners Academy looked glamorous from the outside. Wealthy students, beautiful campuses, prestigious reputations.
The reality was far less appealing.
The original game had made one thing very clear.
Almost every girl in this academy had something wrong with her.
Some were obsessive.
Some were manipulative. freёwebnoѵel.com
Some were possessive.
Others simply hid their issues better than everyone else.
The academy itself was basically a collection of future disasters waiting for the right trigger.
A sudden realization made me frown.
The school year had already been running for four months.
Most stories started at the beginning.
I had arrived in the middle.
Relationships already existed.
Conflicts had already begun.
Important events might have already happened.
That wasn’t good.
Not good at all.
"You’re doing it again."
Ryan’s voice pulled me from my thoughts.
I turned toward him.
"Doing what?"
"Overthinking."
He pointed toward my face.
"You always make that expression."
For a moment, I froze.
Then Adrian’s memories supplied context.
Ryan had known Adrian long enough to recognize his habits.
I would need to be careful around him.
"Just tired."
Ryan accepted the answer without much suspicion.
"That makes more sense."
Before the conversation could continue, the classroom door opened.
The atmosphere immediately changed.
Professor Sarah Bennett entered carrying several books under one arm.
She looked to be in her late twenties and wore a formal black suit. Nothing about her appearance was particularly intimidating.
Unfortunately, appearances were deceptive.
Every student in the room immediately returned to their seat.
Even Ryan sat up straight.
Professor Bennett placed her books on the desk and looked across the classroom.
"Good morning, everyone."
"Good morning, Professor."
Her gaze slowly swept across the room.
For a brief moment, her eyes landed on me.
Then they moved away.
No comment about the cat ears.
No reaction whatsoever.
Apparently this wasn’t even unusual enough to deserve attention.
That somehow felt worse.
Professor Bennett opened her attendance sheet.
"Before we begin today’s lesson, there is something I need to discuss."
The classroom fell silent.
"As most of you already know, Noah Walker from Class 1-C is currently absent due to a family matter."
Several students nodded.
Professor Bennett adjusted her glasses before continuing.
"His grandmother’s condition has improved, and he is expected to return soon."
Then all of a sudden another notification appeared at the edge of my vision.
______
Important Character Notice
Noah Walker
Status: Returning Soon
______
The message vanished as quickly as it appeared.
I stared at the empty space where it had been.
For the first time since arriving in this world, I felt genuinely uneasy.
The protagonist was coming back.
And if there was one thing every player of Sinners Academy knew, it was that whenever Noah Walker became involved, things had a tendency to spiral out of control.
