Chapter 356: Chapter 356 : The Spectators
Delphine remained hidden behind her tree long after the two vanished into thin air. She recognized Jax’s domain magic instantly, having witnessed it firsthand at the shopping mall. And that recognition was the exact reason her curiosity rooted her to the spot to see what’s going on.
Not that she had much choice in the matter anyway, since attempting any movement right now would immediately get her tracked by two of the most overpowered people on the entire floating island.
But Delphine was not the only pair of eyes that had been watching.
Two additional spectators had witnessed every painfully awkward scene from the very beginning. From the moment Jax was wrestling the little devil into submission and forcing those shoes onto her feet, all the way until they both simply blinked out of existence.
The instant they vanished, Rora was far too loud for her own good. She was overflowing with questions and practically shoving them into Albert’s face one after another.
Albert told her flatly that he was bound by an oath of loyalty and could not disclose a single detail about his master’s personal relationships to any living soul.
Rora nervously chuckled while running a hand through her hair. "I swear it genuinely feels like the ultimate mystery of my life has just been completely unraveled. My heavy soul feels so incredibly light right now."
She took a breath but it did absolutely nothing to slow her down. "Yet somehow I completely understand the entire situation while simultaneously understanding absolutely nothing because how the fuck did that menace not immediately declare a blood feud after getting flicked on the forehead? What divine entity could possibly justify her making such a ridiculously flustered and blushy face? And please do not even get me started on that disgustingly sweet cringy romance."
She narrowed her eyes at Albert. "Just nod if she secretly hit her head on a rock sometime recently."
No response came.
So she shifted her gaze upward toward the magical traces still lingering in the sky. She pictured Astrid kissing her lover mid-air with genuine passion and affection, then spoke with an unexpected softness. "So maybe it really is true that love can soften a person. No matter how much of a complete tyrant they are."
She turned back to Albert with curious eyes. "Hey, Albert. Do you think I should give love a chance as well?"
A brief pause.
"Wait. Never mind. On second thought that sounds like way too much unnecessary extra work. I would much rather stick to my delightfully boring life of taking naps. Why bother trying to figure out another entire human being when my soft pillow is already the perfect soulmate?"
Albert murmured under his breath just barely loud enough to qualify as speech. "Not that any sane man would ever actively volunteer to date a walking disaster of a sloth with a massive death count hovering over her head. The poor bastard would spend his entire life in constant fear of assassination. Either from an ambush by her countless enemies, or from her personally if he dared to snore too loudly or accidentally stole her blanket in the middle of the night."
Rora’s ear twitched. "Did you just say something?"
Albert cleared his throat without a shred of guilt. "Yeah. I was saying we should probably head back. They most likely teleported home already."
Rora shook her head. "Nope. They have not gone back yet. Look up there. The mana traces are still hanging in the air and they have not dissolved at all. I can also clearly sense three separate presences in this area. Which means that boy did not use a teleportation spell. He cast a magical barrier. Or maybe he opened a domain."
She glanced at Albert with a lazy smirk. "Well, why am I even bothering to explain any of this to someone who skipped every single one of his mana classes? Poor guy is nothing but a brute with no mana flowing in his body."
Albert simply absorbed her teasing in silence. He was thoroughly used to it by now, and provoking her in return was never the right move. Her short temper and violent mood swings had a legendary track record of producing disasters. That was also the exact reason he had not stopped her from following his master in the first place.
Back at the estate, Albert had simply watched as Jax was forcefully dragging Astrid away with him. He allowed it to happen and quietly followed because Astrid had been deep in her rebellious phase lately.
Her anger had planted a fear in the eyes of every servant that was far worse than anything they had experienced before. And the only person in this world capable of fixing her was the exact guy who was currently hauling her away.
But he was not alone in following them. Rora, who had been restless for days due to the storm of questions swirling in her head, was floating in air silently in their direction as well.
Albert had tried to stop her. But seeing how deeply invested she was in uncovering the truth, he backed down without a fight and simply tagged along.
Albert spoke up now. "You mentioned three people just now. Are you referring to the woman who tried to stop us from entering this area earlier?"
Rora waved her hand dismissively. "Nah. That woman does not possess an actual physical body. She was definitely a summon belonging to that boy. It makes perfect sense given how much raw power he carries around."
Albert blinked. "Now I understand why you stopped me from fighting her. It would have alerted the summoner immediately, and we would have been caught. And then I alone would have taken the punishment."
Rora tilted her head. "Well, that was not actually the reason though. I stopped you because that sword woman would have clapped you. It honestly would have been a delight to watch your ass get thoroughly kicked, but the fight would have eaten up way too much time. And I was not about to miss this show over something that pointless. So I just used a presence eraser spell and slipped us both in."
She stretched lazily. "Ah, speaking of presence detection, the third person out here is doing her best to suppress herself too. But I think we can leave her alone for now. The main concern is that professor."
Albert, whose pride was visibly wounded, chose to ignore everything else she said and fixated on one specific claim. "There is no way I could ever be defeated by a mere summon. You are just mocking me."
Rora patted his shoulder with the gentle condescension of a parent comforting a child who just lost a race to a three-legged dog. "The truth is really harsh, dear. But if you still feel that way, go ahead and challenge her to a duel once we are finished here." freёweɓnovel.com
Her tone shifted slightly. "Still, the fact that this boy has a monster like that as a summon and the sheer power I can sense residing inside him is genuinely concerning."
She paused. "But judging by how he loved that chaotic girl tonight and willingly took her beatings when he clearly could have dodged every single one, he honestly seems like a decent guy."
She looked up at the traces in the sky. "I wonder what he might be doing inside that domain right now. Knowing how furious Astrid was at the end there, he probably opened it just to contain her wrath in a safe space. I am almost certain their conversation kicked off with a fight where the professor was desperately dodging attacks from his own student." She smiled faintly. "What a lovely sight that would have been."
Then a vein popped on her forehead as her patience finally ran dry. "What is taking them so damn long? It has been over two hours since those two dared to leave their spectators hanging like this!"
But then she sensed something shift in the air. Her eyes went wide with panic. "Albert, hide inside that dustbin right now. They are coming out."
And that was when they spotted the couple descending from the sky.
The sight generated more questions than either of them could possibly process. Astrid was holding Jax in a full princess carry while gracefully floating downward using her magic shoes.
What made the scene infinitely more bewildering was Astrid’s face. She wore a smile so enormous and radiant that her entire being was literally glowing brighter than a star.
Meanwhile, their overpowered professor dangled in her arms like a limp puppy and looked like he had just survived the worst natural disaster in recorded history.
Messy hair pointing in every direction. Face covered in bruises. His torso was covered by what used to be a proper shirt just a few hours ago but was now reduced to an open vest after losing every single button and shape.
And that exposed front was more than enough to give the spectators a clear peek at the alarming collection of imprints scattered across his body.
