Chapter 348: Chapter 348: A Confession Above the Clouds

Astrid was currently sitting there innocently twirling a strand of hair around her tiny finger.

She looked entirely like a peaceful angel while Jax finally finished securely fastening the beautiful shoes he had got custom made with the help of Delphine.

Jax slowly stood up from the cold ground sporting a perfectly glowing red handprint directly across his cheek. The fresh finger imprints clearly proved that he was absolutely not lucky enough to dodge the entire barrage of violent slaps she had just unleashed upon him. fɾēewebnσveℓ.com

He let out a painful sigh and gently rubbed his stinging face. "For the sake of all the gods in heaven, why can you not just behave like a normal elegant noble lady for once in your life."

Astrid instantly puffed out her cheeks into an adorable pout and firmly crossed her arms. "And for the sake of those exact same gods, why do you not just tell me your highly suspicious motives beforehand instead of acting like a total creep in the dark."

There was a long awkward silence as Jax stared at Astrid with utter disbelief while Astrid let out a proud hmph and immediately looked down at her feet.

She wiggled her toes inside the new shoes and spoke up. "By the way, are you completely sure these shoes will actually let me fly. Because if that is the actual case, then this must be some legendary mythical find, right. Did you get horribly scammed in a dark alley, or are you just trying to mock me again?"

She tilted her head slowly. "I have definitely heard about a few rare artifacts that can do similar magical things. But literally all of those news reports ended with the owner brutally dying because the stupid item malfunctioned at the worst possible altitude. Either that, or the idiot owner simply ran out of mana midair, turning them into nothing but a plummeting human meat kite."

She gasped and suddenly looked at Jax with pure horror. "Do not tell me you brought me out here just to permanently get rid of me."

Jax wore a completely speechless expression as he flicked his finger straight onto her forehead. "I am literally begging you to please just do me a massive favor and never ever use your brain again."

He suddenly grabbed the waist of the seated Astrid and easily pulled her up onto her feet. He immediately wrapped his arms tightly around her and pressed his entire body right against hers.

A completely confused Astrid violently twitched and instantly turned bright red all over again.

"What exactly are you trying to do right now. Do you seriously want me to autograph your other cheek as well, you giant moron."

Jax smiled warmly and held her even tighter. "I am just trying to cure your wild paranoia about my assassination plot. First of all, you will only ever run out of mana if you try something colossally stupid up there. You already know your abnormal mana core is a literal cheat code, so keeping these tiny shoes powered up is basically a joke to a walking magical battery like you."

His grin widened. "And as for your fear about whether this magical artifact is real or just a scam, why do we not simply test it out together. That way, if the item completely fails and we plummet to the ground, you will at least have a handsome companion for the journey down. Right?"

Astrid was currently squirming in his tight embrace and feeling incredibly awkward about their close position. She immediately started sweating and furiously backpedaling.

"I was obviously just kidding earlier, you know. I am completely positive these shoes are absolute masterpieces, and I am highly confident in them, so let us definitely not waste any time doing useless safety tests right now."

Her face only burned hotter as a new horror struck her. "Plus, do you genuinely want me soaring through the night sky wearing these ridiculous sleep pajamas. If literally anyone looks up and sees me in this outfit, the sheer humiliation will instantly kill me way before we even hit the ground."

Jax beamed with overwhelming excitement while his selective hearing took her words as a completely enthusiastic yes.

"That is fantastic, because I just knew you would be thrilled about testing these out tonight. Now just pour your mana into the soles and let the magic absorb and bind with you. And then, um..., maybe they will actually obey your commands and let you float around safely."

Astrid was entirely stunned into absolute silence.

She knew her incredibly stubborn boyfriend very well, and his horribly casual use of the word maybe completely confirmed her impending doom. freewebnøvel.coɱ

But honestly, getting spotted arguing on the ground would be way worse than zooming across the dark sky where nobody could actually identify her embarrassing sleepwear. So she just let out a defeated sigh and obediently poured her mana into the boots while aggressively praying to the gods that this would not become another accidental life or death situation, which was basically a weekly occurrence around this giant moron.

And after the magical binding was completely finished, she commanded the shoes and imagined floating, which immediately made them work as she was slowly lifted into the air.

And so was Jax, because he was aggressively clinging onto Astrid for dear life.

They were amateurishly wiggling higher and higher into the sky, looking exactly like a malfunctioning arcade claw machine struggling to lift a massively heavy koala bear.

Astrid had squeezed her eyes tightly shut because she was way too terrified to look down, while her deeply paranoid mind kept flashing various gruesome scenes of her own tragic death.

This chaotic ascent went on until they reached an absolutely immense height and Jax finally had to shake her back to her senses to make her halt the flying shoes.

He pointed at the moon, which was clearly visible now and looked far closer than it ever had from the ground. "Please open your eyes, Astrid. And look right in front of you."
