Chapter 46: Lin Yuan vs Gu Shiyan (1)

The brief two-hour break after the semi-final for replenishment has now finished. Lin Yuan was coming back to the competitors’ stand from the medical hall. Chen Ming was in hectic condition, but it didn’t reflect any change in Lin Yuan’s void expression. Gu Shiyan and Lin Yuan replenished their beast essence in this two-hours break.

"Hahaha... Turtle bastard! How was your friend doing? Is he dead or alive?" Gu Shiyan jeered, his eyes darted toward Lin Yuan and then toward the medical hall.

"I don’t have any time to talk with stupid cunts.." Lin Yuan muttered, sitting sluggishly in his seat.

Gu Shiyan’s face darkened in anger. But he didn’t say anything. freewēbnoveℓ.com

"The Two-Hour Break is finished!" Luo Zhen’s amplified voice wavered across the academy grounds. "Let’s move to the most awaited Grand Finale!!"

The spectators boomed into a cacophony of murmurs and anxious applause.

"The man who has been called the ’Strongest of the Academy’ in a mere month — Lin Yuan, versus the ’Ruthless Disciple of the Academy’ — Gu Shiyan!" Luo Zhen continued, his voice rising in pitch. "Today, we witness who truly commands the peak of our generation! Let the match begin!"

Click! Click!

Faint footsteps tapped against the battle stage stairs as the two ferocious disciples ascended. They took their positions on opposite sides of the stage — Gu Shiyan’s eyes burned with a fierce gaze, while Lin Yuan maintained his usual, unbothered expression.

"Huh... Let’s see who is stronger, Gu Shiyan," Lin Yuan sighed, blinking his eyes once.

"Strong? You are a mere prick, turtle bastard—"

"If you ever called me by that name, I will shred your tongue into pieces," Lin Yuan admonished, his gaze doesn’t even have any interest.

’This bastard... Hell with the secrets and rules... I will kill this bastard in this match.’ Gu Shiyan thought, clicking his tongue.

"BEGIN!" Luo Zhen announced, stepping out of the battle stage.

Instantly, Gu Shiyan lunged forward in a zig-zag moment like a moving snake toward Lin Yuan. Lin Yuan’s eyes slightly widened thinking that Gu Shiyan is not at all holding back. He frantically adjusted his hands to defend the incoming thrust attack from Gu Shiyan. Gu Shiyan covered the distance, his hand piercing through the air onto Lin Yuan’s chest. Lin Yuan jolted his left hand to slam Gu Shiyan’s attack sideways.

Whoosh!

Gu Shiyan suddenly vanished from the vision of Lin Yuan, leaving a trail of green beast essence.

"FUCK!!" Lin Yuan cursed, pivoting his body backward.

Gu Shiyan appeared behind Lin Yuan and thrust his sharp, fang-like fingers into Lin Yuan’s ribs. The powerful thrust shattered two-three ribs in Lin Yuan; he spat a mouthful of blood onto the stage. Gu Shiyan staggered backward instantly after the successful thrust.

"Haha... What happened, Lin Yuan? Is this your strength?" Gu Shiyan mocked, commanding his green beast essence out slowly. A faint silhouette of Fire-Serpent appeared, coiling around Gu Shiyan. "These academy people call you ’Strongest disciple’ right...? I will snatch that title from you!"

"Haha– arghh!" Lin Yuan groaned, clutching his wound. "Nice attack, Gu Shiyan, but you really dream big..! Stronger than me? No way, not even in your fucking dreams!"

"Dreams?" Gu Shiyan whispers, his eyes dark. "Look down, Lin Yuan. That is your blood on the floor. You will lose in no time."

Lin Yuan pulled a faintly shimmering, greenish pill from his robes and swallowed it in a single gulp. As a kind fifteen-year-old boy, Lin Yuan lacked foresight and rarely carried medicine. However, the soul within him belonged to Noir — an experienced, ruthless genius who always kept alternative escape plans. In his past life as a magic wizard, the laws and restrictions of his previous world had ultimately failed him, even though he thought of millions of possibilities. Now, after transmigrating into Lin Yuan, that comprehensive foresight had only sharpened through the challenges of his new daily life.

He guessed a possibility that Gu Shiyan would lethally hurt him in the battle, so he carried a Mid-grade Healing pill which easily healed the wound of Lin Yuan in seconds.

The spectators, masters, assistant masters, and Gu Shiyan frowned, dropping their jaws down.

"Healing pill?"

"Did he predict all these things? Winning and getting into finals, he will get hurt, and he carried a healing pill with him?"

"Lin Yuan is truly a fucking genius!"

"How can a fifteen-year-old boy have this type of thinking and foresight?"

"Humph! People are getting excited over nothing..." Lin Cangxuan smirked, nodding his head slightly in disdain. "Lin Yuan was just carrying a healing pill because he was scared of getting hurt, and it happened to help him. That’s it! It wasn’t foresight or genius! These spectators are truly brainless fools, mistaking an ordinary person for a genius."

The masters and assistant masters snapped their heads toward Lin Cangxuan, and realised that it was a negligible thing. But Lin Cangxuan said those words just to divert the attention and disbelief from the spectators toward masters and assistant masters.

’Lin Yuan... my grandson... Yeah it was not a big thing, but you were truly a magnificent cultivator, despite your age, your thoughts are surpassed even mine!’ Lin Cangxuan smiled, his eyes locked onto the recovered Lin Yuan standing on the battle stage.

Gu Shiyan’s expression changed into pure malice as the shattered ribs and wound beneath Lin Yuan’s robes visibly snapped back into place. The pale green beast essence coiling around him flared vehemently, the silhouette of the Fire-Serpent hissing along with its master’s rage.

"A healing pill won’t save you from me, Lin Yuan!" Gu Shiyan roared, stomping his foot onto the stage. "I will defeat you with everything I have!"

Gu Shiyan lunged forward, and Lin Yuan also rushed forward, their hands swirled with the green beast essence. Lin Yuan’s right hand rumbled with a turtle shell wrapping into a strong glove which can shatter a boulder into pieces. Gu Shiyan’s right hand vehemently coiled by his Fire-Serpent opening its fangs with thick venom drooling on its fangs. And suddenly Lin Yuan stopped, standing still, his void expression returning like a calm sea after a storm. He raised his hands, re-wrapping his leafy green beast essence. He instantly changed his fighting style as he saw the flow of Gu Shiyan’s beast essence.

Lin Yuan understands that Gu Shiyan is actually trying to kill him, and the venom from the Fire-Serpent’s silhouette is strong enough to achieve that. So he decided to defend Gu Shiyan’s attack and wrapped the beast essence into a shield. The leafy green beast essence of Lin Yuan’s Turtle roared to life, condensing into a thick, translucent shield that locked firmly in front of his body. The intricate, hexagonal patterns of a tortoise shell rippled across the defensive barriers, shimmered with pure intensity.

Gu Shiyan grinned like a maniac, his eyes bloodshot. "Cowardly turtle! Die!"

The pale green beast essence of the Fire-Serpent hissed venomously as Gu Shiyan thrust his venom-dripping fist straight into the center of Lin Yuan’s shield.

Bang!

The collision created a violent shockwave that blasted outward, cracking the solid battle stage. Faint particles of pale green and leafy green essence scattered into the air like shattered glass, dissolving into mist. The acidic venom of the Fire-Serpent sizzled maliciously against the strong tortoise barrier, chomping the outer layer of Lin Yuan’s defense.

Lin Yuan felt the impact rattle through his bones, but his void expression didn’t flinch. His feet scraped back barely two inches before he anchored himself still again. Gu Shiyan’s rage increased, seeing his lethal strike blocked. Without withdrawing his fist, he pivoted on his left foot and whipped his leg around. A razor-sharp arc of pale green beast essence cut through the air, precisely like a striking serpent’s tail, aiming for Lin Yuan’s neck.

But Noir predicted the trajectory through his vast combat experience, Lin Yuan instantly dissolved the shield before him. He ducked his body low, under the slicing kick. The whistling wind of the pale green energy grazed his hair, carrying a smell of scorched venom.

As Gu Shiyan’s leg passed over him, Lin Yuan utilized the temporary opening. He lunged forward from his crouching posture, gathering a burst of leafy green essence into his elbow. He slammed it toward Gu Shiyan’s exposed ribs.

Gu Shiyan’s combat instincts were sharp. He couldn’t dodge completely, so he rapidly crossed his hands to block the incoming strike.

The brute force of Lin Yuan’s elbow strike sent Gu Shiyan staggering backward across the stage. His boots dug deep into the wood, leaving scorched trench marks. The raw weight behind Lin Yuan’s attack had clearly shook him, forcing a low grunt from his throat.

"You hit hard for a bastard who only knows how to hide behind a shell," Gu Shiyan spat, jerking his hands to clear the numbness in them. The pale green essence around his body flickered unsteadily, the silhouette of the Fire-Serpent thrashing its tail in agitation.

Lin Yuan straightened his posture, slowly exhaling a breath. "Your technique is sloppy, Gu Shiyan. You let your anger command your essence flow. A true master controls his power; you let your power control you."

"Shut up! You know nothing about my power!" Gu Shiyan roared, moving again, faster this time, weaving across the stage like a serpent. He left a confusing trail of pale green afterimages behind him. To the ordinary spectators in the stands, it looked as though five different Gu Shiyan’s were attacking Lin Yuan simultaneously from every angle.

The spectators gasped, leaning forward.

"Look at that speed!"

"Gu Shiyan is pushing his Fire-Serpent essence to its limit!"

"Can Lin Yuan even track him?"

Lin Cangxuan watched from the VIP stand, his eyes narrowing slightly. His fingers tapped rhythmically against his armrest. ’Shiyan is desperate. He is burning his beast essence way too quickly just to maintain that immense speed. If he doesn’t land a final blow soon, he will exhaust himself.’

Lin Yuan blinked his eyes, and thought how Gu Shiyan will attack this time.

’Left? Right? Noo... wait yeah! Haha!’ Lin Yuan smirked, turning his body backward suddenly. "Same tricks won’t work bastard!!"

Lin Yuan whirled around, his right fist already wrapped in a boulder-shattering glove of leafy green essence. He threw a straight punch into the seemingly empty air behind him.

At that exact moment, Gu Shiyan appeared from the thin air, his fingers formed into sharp, venomous fangs, thrusting downward.

CRASH!

Lin Yuan’s fist met Gu Shiyan’s fang-like fingers in a clash of pure willpower and beast essence. The leafy green energy of the Turtle and the pale green energy of the Fire-Serpent erupted in a flash of light. The sheer pressure erupted from their impact and began to drain both of their beast essence pools in the aperture.

Gu Shiyan’s face was mere inches from Lin Yuan’s. His teeth were gritted so tightly, and sweat dripped down from his temples. "I will... break you!"

"You are already broken." Lin Yuan looked back at him, his lips crawling into a smirk.

With a sudden burst of movement, Lin Yuan deflected Gu Shiyan’s hand upward and delivered a lightning-fast front kick to Gu Shiyan’s chest. Gu Shiyan managed to decrease the impact by a thin layer of pale green essence to cushion the blow, but the impact still sent him flying backward until he reached the edge of the battle stage.

Gu Shiyan gasped, clutching his chest. His pale green aura was flickering now, but Lin Yuan remained standing calmly with a steady, unbothered posture.

Lin Yuan focused his inner vision on Gu Shiyan’s body, trying to understand the flow of his remaining beast essence. As Lin Yuan’s gaze locked onto Gu Shiyan’s lower abdomen and his eyes narrowed slightly.

Lin Yuan sensed a shimmering dark green light lingering out from a crack on Gu Shiyan’s aperture. He didn’t understand the aura of the light from his aperture.

’Maybe he was draining his all essence to defeat me,’ Lin Yuan assumed, his eyes focusing on Gu Shiyan’s aperture.
