Chapter 43: Brutality of the battle!
After Xiao Lanxue’s match, the arena erupted into murmurs about the next match.
"The brat from Gu Clan will battle now."
"Xiao Clan’s disciple will be defeated now..."
"Gu Shiyan... He is a demon!"
The spectators are discussing the upcoming match of Gu Shiyan. Every time they remembered his name, a faint chill of the Silent Wanderer tale crawled down their spines.
"The arena is ready for the next battle," Luo Zhen shrilled, holding his hands back gently. "The next battle in the second round is between Gu Shiyan and Xiao Yanrui."
"This arrogant brat..." Lin Cangxuan muttered, clenching his fists. "He doesn’t care about the pain of others. He just likes to humiliate people. If he does anything like he did in the last match... I will show him what true might is."
"Calm down, Headmaster," Gu Yanluo smirked, snapping his fingers. "A disciple from the Gu clan will teach that bastard Yanrui a lesson."
"Haha... You certainly harbor grand expectations for your clan, master Gu Yanluo," Teng Lianhua sneered. He whipped his gaze toward Gu Yanluo, a dangerous light flickering in his eyes. "Let us see whose disciple truly possesses the providence to triumph today."
In the meantime, Gu Shiyan and Xiao Yanrui climbed upon the battle stage, facing opposite to each other. Gu Shiyan has a faded trail of smirk on his face, his eyes shimmering with pride. But Xiao Yanrui was different, his eyes were unconcerned and devoid of any emotion.
"Begin!" Luo Zhen beamed, stepping out of the battle stage.
Howl!
Only the hum of an elegant wind howl lingered across the arena. Xiao Yanrui stood still, his icy glare locked onto Gu Shiyan. A few seconds passed. Then Gu Shiyan moved first, his pale green beast essence shot out from his aperture, swirling around his arm like a coiling snake.
"Hehehe Xiao Yanrui, I wonder how your beast tastes..." Gu Shiyan murmured, smearing his upper lip with his tongue slightly. "Just kidding... Hahahaha..."
Xiao Yanrui’s eyes widened in anger, his face twisted sluggishly. "You dare to try humiliating me?" He gritted his teeth tightly, his snow-white beast essence gathered around his fist, forming a bear paw. A cold, biting chill withered across the arena. This much of manifestation is not possible unless he was a Spirit Beast Realm cultivator, but Xiao Yanrui was only a Baby Beast Realm Peak Stage cultivator.
"The Snail Shell Aperture..." Dan Zhenren muttered, his eyes gleaming with sudden anxiety. "That wretched Xiao Clan actually managed to nurture someone with a Snail Shell as a secondary beast... Damn this foul clan politics to hell!"
"Snail Shell Aperture?" Qin Yuze frowned, her eyes narrowing in confusion. "What does it mean?"
"Snail is a small creature in this vast world, Qin Yuze," Lin Cangxuan said, lightly stroking his chin. "But it has profound properties if one can successfully tame or refine it. To use the unique nature of refined Snail beast, a cultivator’s aperture must first break through to the Core Beast Realm. Once a Core Beast Realm Master refines such a creature, they gain the power to enshroud their true cultivation by one stage. A Spirit Beast Realm master can easily disguise themselves as a mere Baby Beast Realm cultivator and more dangerously, they can use this heavenly technique to enshroud the apertures of others."
"Probably, one of the Xiao Clan refined the Snail beast, and helped Xiao Yanrui with it..." Teng Lianhua continued, his gaze fixed on the battle stage. "Maybe Xiao Yanrui is truly a Spirit Beast Realm Lower Stage cultivator."
"But why enshrouding the cultivation, Headmaster?" He Muran questioned, slightly raising his body up from his seat. "The academy doesn’t have any restrictions about taking only Baby Beast Realm cultivators right?"
"Indeed... We don’t have that type of rule..." Lin Cangxuan whispered, his eyes widening sluggishly. "Maybe, Xiao Yanrui purposefully baited everyone into underestimating him. He wants to raise them to high hopes, only to brutally crush them into the ground... He thrives on their despair. Sigh. How can a mere young brat have a heart so wretched and depraved?"
Whoosh!
The Serpent shaped beast essence in Gu Shiyan’s hand blasted straight, aiming toward Xiao Yanrui’s abdomen. Immediately Xiao Yanrui thrusted his hand horizontally to slash the incoming laser shot into streaks of light. Then without any delay, he lunged forward clenching his bear paw around his fist toward Gu Shiyan. But, Gu Shiyan was just laughing, ignoring Xiao Yanrui like an annoying brat.
The moment before the bear punch could hit his face, Gu Shiyan pivoted his body sideways and pierced his thin, sharp laser into Xiao Yanrui’s side ribs. A thick geyser of blood sprayed frantically across the surrounding area. Xiao Yanrui clutched the wound hard to stop the bleeding, but thick, viscous blood still drooled out from the gaps of his fingers. He coughed a splash of blood onto the ground.
"Hehehe... What happened? You think you can defeat me? Even if you are a Spirit Beast Realm cultivator, you cannot even pluck a hair on my ass!" Gu Shiyan humiliated him, laughing hard while throwing his head back.
"Darn it! I let my guard down!" Xiao Yanrui wheezed, his chest heaving heavily.
"It’s a brutal injury... Will you give up?" Luo Zhen bellowed, slowly stepping onto the stage.
"NO!!" Xiao Yanrui roared, clutching his torn robe tightly around himself to staunch the bleeding as he managed to stand straight again. "I can still fight!"
Xiao Yanrui let out a faint breath, the beast essence in his aperture swirling rapidly before erupting outward, blanketing the stage in a sluggish, icy mist. Having exhausted his entire reservoir in the attack, he left Gu Shiyan with a dangerous chill tracing down his spine, forcing the latter to take an immediate defensive stance. As the thick fog covered in, it obscured the stage, blinding both the spectators and the observing masters.
Xiao Yanrui rushed forward with a barrage of devastating punches, but each punch losing its strength before. Gu Shiyan barely dodged the attacks with frenzy movements. Gu Shiyan threw himself backward, desperately trying to dodge the onslaught. The sheer speed of the ice-bear fists caught him off guard, and two or three blows smashed into his chest and right shoulder. Ice bit into his skin, but the damage was not lethal.
Regaining his footing through the pain, Gu Shiyan unleashed his own power. He released his pale green beast essence wholly, pouring his pure will into it. The beast essence gathered instantly, taking the shape of a raging blood-red serpent that tore through the mist. With a murderous hiss, the crimson snake lunged forward and chomped down on Xiao Yanrui’s right fist surrounded with bear-paw.
Xiao Yanrui let out a blood-curdling scream. Up in the stands, Gu Yanluo widened his eyes, standing up to clear the field. He commanded his lightning falcon to flap its wide wings, unleashing a powerful gust of wind that withered the mist away in an instant.
As the air cleared, the stadium fell into a stunned, eerie silence. Xiao Yanrui was spasming expeditiously on the ground, yelling out agonizing curses. He was clutching his right arm desperately, but his right hand wrist was gone. Thick, fresh blood splashed onto the stone floor, exposing broken, hollow white bones stained with faint traces of blood.
"B-battle is concluded! The winner is Gu Shiyan! Shen Ruoxi and He Muran, please help in healing Xiao Yanrui!" Master Luo Zhen immediately stepped onto the stage. He announced Gu Shiyan as the winner, but his face was dark. Luo Zhen rushed toward Gu Shiyan with heavy steps, and gripped him by the throat. Luo Zhen’s eyes are filled with sheer anger and rage.
"The rules state no killing, you fucking bastard!" Luo Zhen growled, demanding an explanation.
"You said no to killing," Gu Shiyan replied coldly, his voice devoid of emotion. He glared into Luo Zhen’s eyes indifferently. "But that bastard tried to kill me first. I didn’t break the rule. I just cut his hand off."
Luo Zhen’s gaze widened. He turned his head toward the headmaster, Lin Cangxuan, seeking a final decision. From the VIP stand, Lin Cangxuan looked at the bloody floor and nodded once, confirming that it was not Gu Shiyan’s mistake. frёeωebɳovel.com
’Xiao Yanrui obscured the view to kill Gu Shiyan...?’ Lin Cangxuan thought, his gaze locked onto Gu Shiyan. ’Maybe it is true or a lie or half-truth... Gu Shiyan... huh!’
Luo Zhen let go of Gu Shiyan’s throat. Ignoring the groans of the spasming boy on the floor, Gu Shiyan turned around and walked slowly back to the competitors’ stand. Shen Ruoxi and He Muran helped Xiao Yanrui onto a stretcher, and rushed into the medical hall immediately.
’Gu Shiyan... You need to hold back!! Don’t let it consume you,’ Gu Yanluo thought, a bead of sweat crawling on his face.
Lin Yuan caught the frantic expression of Gu Yanluo. Even though he didn’t know what Gu Yanluo was thinking, he grasped the tense in Gu Yanluo’s face.
’This old geezer and Gu Shiyan had something dangerous going on,’ Lin Yuan thought, clicking his tongue in anger. ’But it doesn’t matter. Gu Shiyan already eliminated that threat for me... Hahaha!’
The entire academy grounds were in eerie silence, no murmurs and no applause. The Xiao clan representatives and Xiao Lanxue rushed toward the medical hall instantly.
