Chapter 1675: Sometimes I wish this world were a novel...

Lackey’s heart skipped a beat... when she found a ’Plot hole’ in his cooked story.

Her voice slowly turned cold, mechanical and dangerous,

"Also... if Epsilon abandoned you, then how are you so fluent in our language as if you spent your entire life here..."

TANG!!!

The deafening sound of metal striking metal exploded through the laboratory.

Beta’s head tilted forward from the impact before she immediately turned around.

Behind her stood Lackey.

A knife was clenched tightly in his hand.

The blade had struck the back of her helmet with enough force to kill an ordinary person, yet it had done little more than leave behind a shallow scratch across the metallic surface.

The attack had failed. freeweɓnøvel.com

Where had he gotten the knife?

Naturally, it had come from his storage.

Lackey clicked his tongue and examined the cracked blade in his hand.

’Tsk. Xara said this knife could cut through metal like butter, but it looks like these suits are made from materials far stronger than those machines.’

Without wasting another second, he immediately leapt backwards and widened the distance between them while keeping his eyes locked on Beta.

If that blade had pierced her helmet, she would have died instantly.

"It’s a mosquito."

A nervous grin appeared on his face.

"Haha..."

"Hmm..."

Beta touched the scratch on her helmet and said calmly,

"Killing mosquitoes with a knife? That’s a new one."

Her pink, glowing eyes looked directly at him. freewebnoveℓ.com

"So you tricked me?"

Lackey bit his lip before a wicked grin spread across his face.

"We’re all cunties, fucker~"

He raised his middle finger.

The instant he did, dozens of metallic tendrils exploded toward him.

SHHHHK!

The sharp metallic tendrils pierced through the exact spot where he had been standing only a moment earlier.

Step!

Beta’s eyes widened slightly.

’He still has powers? How?’

She had personally verified his condition. By all logic, he shouldn’t have been capable of using any abilities.

Unfortunately for her, Lackey had no intention of following her logic.

Before she could react further, his figure vanished.

A split second later, he appeared directly above her.

His muscles tensed as his fist descended with tremendous force.

BANG!!!

"FUCK!!!"

The instant his punch connected, a violent shockwave surged through his arm.

It felt as though he had punched the strongest metal in existence.

Pain exploded from his knuckles and raced through his entire arm. He could feel several bones cracking under the impact.

Yet despite all that force, Beta moved only a few inches.

A few fucking inches!

Then she slowly turned her head toward him.

The pink lights within her visor brightened.

Every tendril shot forward simultaneously.

Lackey’s expression immediately darkened.

He activated his skill and began weaving through the incoming attacks. One tendril narrowly missed his neck. Another stabbed through empty air beside his shoulder. A third ripped through a laboratory table and reduced it to splinters.

Despite his superior speed, Beta somehow managed to keep up with him.

More accurately, her suit managed to keep up with him.

The advanced systems continuously tracked his movements and adjusted the tendrils’ trajectories accordingly, allowing them to pursue him through every dodge and every burst of acceleration.

The laboratory quickly descended into chaos.

Glass containers shattered across the floor.

Metal instruments flew through the air.

Research equipment crashed into walls and broke apart.

Sparks erupted from damaged machinery while shattered fragments scattered across the room.

Within less than a minute, the once clean and orderly laboratory had transformed into a complete mess.

’*This cannot keep going on...*’

Just as that thought crossed his mind, Beta interrupted him with a sly, sultry tone.

"Do you really think you can escape? Oh, please..." she said with an amused chuckle.

"This entire building belongs to me, and do you even know how many division members are stationed here? Even if you somehow manage to escape this laboratory, you won’t be leaving this building at all.

Mark my words~"

A smirk spread across her lips as the speed of her tendrils increased dramatically. One of them nearly pierced Lackey’s shoulder, forcing him to retreat.

Although he managed to evade the attack at the last second, the force behind it sent him crashing backwards into the wall before he slammed onto a nearby desk.

Clang.. Tanggg~

Equipment scattered in every direction, and dozens of bottles shattered beneath his weight as he groaned and pushed himself upright.

Beta calmly advanced toward him without the slightest trace of concern. Her movements were slow, deliberate, and filled with confidence, as though she had already determined the outcome of this fight.

As Lackey struggled to regain his footing amidst the wreckage, his attention was suddenly drawn toward Beta’s right hand.

What had once appeared to be an ordinary armoured glove began shifting with unsettling precision as countless microscopic metallic components slid apart and reassembled themselves.

Ssnnngg~sssnnggg~hmmm~

Layers of alloy folded over one another while internal mechanisms rotated beneath the surface, producing a series of sharp mechanical clicks that echoed throughout the damaged laboratory.

Within seconds, her fingers completely transformed into three elongated metallic rods covered in glowing circuitry. Streams of pink energy flowed through transparent channels running along their length, illuminating the surrounding area with an ominous glow.

Tiny arcs of electricity danced between the rods. The humming sound they produced grew louder with each passing moment as hidden reactors within the suit fed power directly into the weapon system.

Lackey’s expression gradually became more serious as he studied them.

His instincts screamed at him to create as much distance as possible.

Whatever those rods were, they were dangerous.

Extremely dangerous!

Yet despite every survival instinct urging caution, a crooked grin slowly spread across Lackey’s face. Instead of retreating, he rolled his shoulders, adjusted his stance, and looked directly at Beta with a provoking expression.

"That’s a pretty scary toy you’ve got there," he said while wiping blood from the corner of his mouth. "Tell me, does it only look dangerous, or can it actually do something besides make fancy lights?"

The pink glow beneath Beta’s visor brightened slightly.

"Oh?" she replied with an amused tilt of her head. "Still haughty? That’s cute. Let’s see if you still have that haughtiness when I melt you from the inside out~"

Her voice carried the calm confidence of someone who had already won.

"Come on, Bitch~!"

Beta accepted the invitation immediately.

Without the slightest hesitation, she launched herself forward while the three rods began spinning at terrifying speed. Pink sparks erupted from their surfaces, illuminating the laboratory with flashes of pink light as they tore through the air toward him.

Just as the spinning rods were about to reach him,

Ssshhh~

A portal abruptly shimmered into existence between them.

The space itself distorted.

Beta’s eyes widened behind her visor as the portal expanded and swallowed her before she could stop herself. The spinning rods vanished along with her, and the portal immediately collapsed into nothingness as though it had never existed.

Thud!

A moment later, Beta stumbled forward and landed on soft grass.

Her weapons gradually slowed as she regained her balance and surveyed her surroundings.

"Where the fuck am I?"

As far as she could see, there was nothing.

Endless fields of green stretched toward the horizon beneath a vast blue sky.

Gentle winds rolled across the grasslands, causing waves of emerald vegetation to sway peacefully under the sunless light.

There were no buildings, no laboratories, no machinery, no division members, and no signs of civilisation whatsoever.

Meanwhile, back inside the laboratory, Lackey stared at the destruction surrounding him and released a long sigh.

The once pristine room looked as though a hurricane had passed through it. Broken equipment littered the floor. Glass fragments covered nearly every surface. Several walls bore deep puncture marks from Beta’s tendrils.

"Fuck..." he muttered while rubbing the back of his head.

*Sometimes I wish this world were a novel and everyone in it were either brain-dead or an NPC.*

His expression darkened slightly as he thought back to the conversation.

He genuinely hadn’t expected Beta to notice the flaw in his story.

The acting itself had been fine.

The emotions had been convincing.

The tears had been convincing.

The problem was that he had been improvising everything on the spot.

He had stitched together a tragic backstory from whatever details came to mind and relied on emotional manipulation to distract her from the inconsistencies.

Unfortunately, Beta had decided to think for more than five seconds and immediately found the hole in his lie.

20 years? That must have given out!

*Fuck... whatever.*

Lackey stretched his sore shoulders and glanced toward the exit.

*At least I can leave in peace no-*

The words had barely left his mouth when a shrill alarm suddenly erupted throughout the laboratory.

[ALERT!]

Red warning lights immediately began flashing across the ceiling, bathing the entire room in crimson light while warning sirens echoed through the facility.

Lackey slowly raised his head.

Then he froze... he almost forgot those things.

Mounted throughout the laboratory were dozens of surgical drones.

They had remained active the entire time.

Every single mechanical eye was now focused directly on him.

Rows of crimson sensors glowed ominously on the metal surface as the drones silently observed him from every angle. Some hovered near the ceiling. Others remained attached to operating stations.

A few rotated their lenses with faint mechanical clicks as they tracked his movements.

Lackey’s stomach sank.

Those things had witnessed everything.
