Chapter 99: Chapter 99: Shadows of Doubt

RAMON’S POV

I sat in my office, waiting for Lorena. The room felt heavier than usual, the thick wooden desk cool under my palms as I leaned back in the chair. I didn’t want to draw any conclusions yet. I had to give her the benefit of the doubt.

The door opened without a knock, and I knew it was her. Lorena stepped inside with that familiar sway in her hips, her dress clinging to her curves in the dim light. She walked over to my desk and dropped straight onto my lap, her body warm and soft against mine. The faint scent of her perfume—sweet and heavy, wrapped around me.

"You sent for me, my alpha," she purred, her voice low and silky as she pressed closer. Her fingers traced lazy patterns on my chest.

I took a deep, tired breath. I wouldn’t say Lorena had any special hold over me. Whatever our relationship was, it never stopped me from seeing the truth when it came to her. However, lately I would agree I was barely holding her accountable.

More often than not, I let her off quite easily. Putting all my attention on punishing Sonia made it harder to hold any other person accountable. Blane had been an exception. I was genuinely pissed at him. But all that had changed after our conversation.

Back to Lorena. She was batting her eyes at me, looking at me like I owned her world. If she was truly betraying me, she had to be a damn good actress.

"Why?" I began, keeping my voice steady.

"Why what?" She pouted, tilting her head with that practiced innocence.

"You’ve betrayed me, and I want to know why." The words came out flat, but the weight behind them pressed down on the space between us.

The cuteness disappeared from her face. In replacement was confusion. She slanted her brows and narrowed her gaze at me. "What are you talking about?"

"I’m talking about the fact you’ve betrayed me, Lorena. Confess, and I’ll let you go with a light sentence." My fingers tightened slightly on the arm of the chair, the wood creaking under the pressure.

"Why would I confess what I haven’t done, Ramon?" Her voice rose, defensive.

"It’s Alpha Ramon to you, right now." I corrected her firmly, the title feeling necessary in this moment.

She snickered and rose to her feet. "Is this some sort of trial? Are you trying me?"

"No, I’m telling you to confess to your alpha."

"But I haven’t done anything!" She stomped her foot on the ground. The sharp sound echoed in the quiet office.

"So why did you want me to punish Sonia after claiming her pack were the attackers?"

She moved back, and her eyes squinted. "You think I was lying about that? Don’t tell me you let that bitch convince you otherwise. Can’t you see she’s only being manipulative?"

"No, she’s not. You on the other hand, you have an agenda. I know you don’t like Sonia. But going out of your way to set her up is absolutely monstrous." My voice stayed low, but the anger simmered beneath it.

"Stop defending her!" She howled.

"One more scream," I lifted a warning hand as I slowly rose to my feet. My blood pumped with anger, and my eyes began to darken. "One more, and you’ll really upset me."

She swallowed hard and took several steps back. "I don’t like the fact you’re threatening me over what she’s said. Shouldn’t you at least hear my side?" She switched from the defensive screams to a manipulative tactic.

Even her voice lowered, sweet and coaxing. Indeed, she was a good actress, but not this time. I was going to hear the truth, no matter how uncomfortable it got.

"So speak for yourself," I dropped back into my seat. "Speak for yourself, and tell me what is happening."

"I only said what I saw, and overheard. Maybe I was wrong, but it doesn’t mean I was trying to set that whore up. Why would I, when you already punish her enough?"

I regarded Lorena with disbelief. She really thought she could just excuse herself out of this mess she created. If I had listened to her and launched an attack on Silverpaw, I would have ended up looking like the fool. Did she think that was just something I should get over?

"You’re unbelievable, Lorena. What is happening to you?"

"I don’t understand, Alpha Ramon. You know I’ve always been on your side. Why do you think I’d try to betray you? It can’t be just because of Sonia."

"Well, seeing someone informed Jack’s pack we already know they are behind the attack, isn’t it safe to say we have a spy in our midst?" ƒree𝑤ebnσvel.com

She gasped and covered her mouth.

"Yeah Lorena, what do you have to say about that? Since you know so much about the happenings in this pack, who do you suggest is the spy? And don’t you dare mention Sonia."

"Why can’t it be her?" she replied stubbornly.

"Because the whole time this mess was going on, she was either being punished or unconscious. At least, you can agree with that."

"I don’t know, she could be working with someone else."

"Stop it!" I growled angrily.

I had enough already. She just kept going and going, making sure to circle back to Sonia.

"You’re hurting me," her eyes suddenly watered. "You’re defending her a lot. Are you finally falling for her?"

"What? What are you talking about? I just want to know the truth."

"Sorry, I don’t know what else I can say. But if you want to punish me for being wrong about your mate, then do it. Do whatever you want to do to me."

As she spoke, her eyes went from my face down to my mid region.

"Do whatever you want with me," she purred, calling to me.

I rose to my feet, the magnetism of her words dragging me forward. The familiar scent of her perfume filled the space between us.

"Stop it, Lorena. This is serious business," I said.

However, my hand had a mind of its own. It was already reaching for her breast. A flash of the previous night barraged me like a flood. Sonia, legs spread apart, screaming into the heavens as I worked my tongue in her delicious wetness arose in my mind. I wanted Sonia right now, but it was Lorena before me.

"Do whatever you want with me." She grabbed my hand that had paused in the air and brought it to her breast. "Come on, Alpha Ramon. Don’t you want to punish me anymore?"

My head was jumbled. It was Lorena speaking, but all I could see was Sonia. She had mastered the art of using seduction to get out of the hot seat. It didn’t help that in my desire for Sonia, I wanted to use her body as a channel.

I shouldn’t do it though. An alpha should have more self-control.

"Stop it," I whispered. fгeewebnovёl.com

"No, you want me. You want all of me," she said, reaching for my hardness.

"I said stop it!" I growled, to both our surprise. "Get out," I continued right after.

When she looked into my eyes and saw the seriousness in it, she scurried away immediately. The door clicked shut behind her, leaving the office silent once more.
