Chapter 45: Chapter 45: A Taste of Normalcy

SONIA’S POV

I don’t know how I got to my bed, but when I woke up the next morning, I was laying on it.

I turned to my side, and the series of strange dreams I had, barraged into my thoughts.

There had been one comment theme amongst all the dreams. It was retribution.

"Retribution," I muttered, dragging the word between my teeth.

"Rise and shine, princess!" A chirpy voice belonging to a very happy Ivy said, as eager hands pushed open the door to my room, and euphoric feets stepped in.

"Good, you’re awake," she said when she caught sight of me.

I had to squint because my vision was not fully clear yet, to see she was holding a tray. She dropped it at the table she picked and placed at the foot of my bed, then walked to the windows.

"Can you smell the excitement, with a hint of tension in the air, Sonia?" She asked.

I could definitely smell something. I had a horrible feeling that this day wasn’t going to be as positive as some people may paint it to be.

"Why are you so excited?" I asked with a clogged voice, as I straightened into a sitting position.

She didn’t respond until she had opened the windows, and fresh rays of sunlight poured into the room.

"Because it is going to be a good day. I don’t care what anyone thinks. I’ve wanted to attend a festival of alphas for so long. And now it’s going to be done here, in my pack? I’m excited!" She clapped, and hopped from foot to foot.

I wished I could share in her excitement. I wasn’t even sure yet if any of my family members would be coming. How could they? Their sister was being held captive. How could they show up or else they want to cause chaos?

"You don’t look happy. But that’s expected. I understand you, my dear. That’s why I made you something delicious. I sneaked in some food from the kitchen. Thankfully, those two are not here to monitor us." She lowered her voice conspiratorially.

"Really? Where are the twins?" ƒreewebɳovel.com

"They’re helping out with preparations. They need all hands on deck. All hands except ours," she chuckled.

I hadn’t seen her in such a good mood before, so it was a given that I was pleasantly stunned. My face didn’t hide it either. But yeah, there was food in front of me, and because I had not eaten properly in days, my hunger was through the roof.

Dragging myself to the edge of the bed, I sat with my feet on the ground, and opened the food plates.

The aroma hit my nose like a strong whirlwind, and I knew I was in for a trip.

"Thank you," I said to Ivy, just before digging into the food.

"You don’t have to thank me. It’s a beautiful day, Sonia," she said, and twirled around.

I managed a smile, as I began to dig into the food.

The first taste had me closing my eyes. There were such interesting flavours dancing in my tongue.

In a few minutes, I had eaten every last bit of food on that plate, and drank the water she presented to me to the very last drop.

Covering my mouth with my hands, I belched into it. My cheeks became inflamed when she turned to me.

"I see you really enjoyed the food."

I gasped when a thought struck my mind. "Please tell me you ate some food. You didn’t give me everything, right?"

"If I had eaten some, you wouldn’t have enough to eat. Don’t worry, I’ll just eat some fruits. You deserve the food more than I do."

My eyes widened in horror. "I’m so sorry, Ivy," I jumped to my feet. "While I was lazing around in bed, you got up to actually feel me. I’m really really sorry. Tell me where you got the food, and I’ll go bring some for you."

"You can’t do that. I stole the ingredients from the kitchen and made the food here. Even if you succeed in stealing some ingredients which I highly doubt you have the skills to do, you told me yourself you don’t know how to cook. However will you manage that?" She asked.

I bit my lips, confused on how to correct this situation. She was right in so many ways. If I tried to steal from Ramon, he would definitely catch and punish me. As if this day wasn’t punishment enough, I’d rather not push him.

Regardless, I just couldn’t sit still and watch Ivy starve because of my ineptitude.

"I’ll steal baking products. I may not be able to cook, but I can bake," I suggested.

"So you’re going to turn into a thief because of me?"

"Uhmmm, well you stole something because of me. I’ll just be repaying the favour."

"Right. So when you’re caught, you’ll tell Alpha Ramon it was all my plan, and you were just manipulated into carrying it out."

I held on to my chest tightly as her words hit harshly in my ears. "Why would you say something like that, Ivy. I would never do that to you. I would never allow you to get into trouble because of me. I thought we were friends?"

Her lips started to twitch, and in a split second, she threw her head back, and burst into a feat of laughter.

My eyes bulged with curiosity because I didn’t understand why she was acting this way.

"You need to see your face, Sonia," she laughed, holding on to get chest. "You looked so scared, worried, and in disbelief at the same time."

I stared at her blankly, still very much confused about what was happening.

She paused. "I was joking, Sonia. Just pulling your legs. Of course I had something to eat too. Also, I know you’re not a rat and that you’ve got my back."

"Oh okay," I breathed out in relief. "For a moment there, I was really scared."

"Oh you’re such a cute baby," she giggled. "I have an idea. Now that there are no eyes on us, how about we go for a run?"

My eyes instantly sparkled because it was time to test the theory from one of my dreams. "Let’s do it!" I said, my heart pounding with excitement.
