Chapter 41: Chapter 41: Destiny’s Unyielding Grip

SONIA’S POV

Ivy picked me up from the ground. Ignoring Lorena’s howls of jest, she took me to the house, and sat me down on the couch.

The second she stood up, I rolled myself into a ball, and wept. It wasn’t silent tears. It was a little loud, and deep from my heart.

I had allowed myself to get carried away again. But it couldn’t be entirely my fault. I had tried my very best to stop my impulsive wolf. Once the need surfaced, it just couldn’t resist it. I couldn’t stop it from committing such a grave sin. Now, I was at odds with myself. Aside from that, his hatred for me was about to surge, and it was entirely my fault.

"Sonia, don’t cry," I felt Ivy beside me.

"Nothing is your fault. I have a feeling you’re blaming yourself, and I don’t like that. Please don’t cry."

I felt her hand on my hair, stroking it gently. Dragging my body forward, I placed my head on her thighs and continued to cry.

My entire being felt so defeated. I couldn’t dare to hope anymore. Nothing was ever going to change between Alpha Ramon and I. If anything, things were going to get even worse.

Slowly, and in my state of disarray, my eyes began to close. In no time, I lost consciousness.

The dream started with me walking endlessly trying to trace the trickling and splashing sound I heard.

It was water. I was always drawn to water. I traced it with my eyes and my ears. Hoping to dip myself into it, because it was the only escape from the scorching heat that left my throat clogged.

The heat crept to my eyes, fogging my vision. My knees buckled, and dropped to the ground. I began to crawl, relying on scent to get me to the water.

Darkness descended the earth, making it even harder for me. Yet, I didn’t stop. I crawled and crawled, until the sound of the waves grew louder.

A smile burst out of my face when I felt moisture on my fingers. I continued on my knees, until it touched water.

"Yes!" I screamed out, but no words came out of my lips.

It didn’t matter to me. The second my knees touched the water, I felt renewed strength to rise. I jumped to my feet, and my wolf began to tug me.

"I know what you need," I said, but just like before, no words came out.

One after the other, I began to take off my clothes. I was wearing a white gown, but didn’t know where it came from.

Now stark naked standing under the gaze of the moon, I closed my eyes and summoned my wolf.

She was ready even before I conceived the thought. I waited for the pain I usually had to endure before the shift. It was because of that pain I didn’t shift as much.

But there was no pain. I transitioned smoothly, and before I came to terms with what had just happened, she broke into a run.

It was dark, but she could perfectly see. She ran round and round. She ran until she was out of breath, but still didn’t stop running.

There was an exhilarating freedom she experienced from running. Something she hadn’t done in a while.

She was still running when she bumped into a wall. I couldn’t control the swift turn back to me.

When I looked up, it wasn’t a wall like I had thought, staring at me. It was a man. He looked oddly familiar, but I couldn’t tell where I had seen him before.

Shooting spikes of pain pricked my skin as I stared at him. My wolf whimpered within me.

I couldn’t bear the pain of looking at him anymore, so I turned around. But before I could run, he drew me back into his body, so I was pressed against him.

"Sonia," he whispered in my ears. "Please be patient with me."

I wanted to stay right where I was, but I just couldn’t. It was too much pain. Even more than I had felt when I healed the alpha Daisy’s lover.

Struggling against the stronghold of the man as I tried to escape, I noticed my wolf wasn’t putting any effort.

She sat still, surrendering to the stranger’s touch. "Let’s go!" I screamed at her. My voice came out loud, and clear this time.

"You can’t go, Sonia. You can’t escape from me. No matter what you do, it won’t change the fact that you belong to me. You’re always going to belong to me."

"No!" I screamed.

"Yes!" He growled into the heavens, and covered me with both arms.

His strength strangled me, and I felt life being snuffed out of me.

"You’re in control," I heard a voice in my head say.

I stopped to struggle, and nodded. It was right. I was in control of the situation.

When the familiar stranger realised I had stopped struggling, he stirred my body around to face him. "So beautiful," he touched my cheeks. I flinched, but remained standing.

"You’re not going to hurt me."

"I could never hurt you. Everything I do, I do for you."

"I know you," I said.

"Of course you do. We’ve known each other for a while now. We’re always going to know ourselves. Does that scare you? Do you want to run away?"

"No," I replied fearlessly. He wasn’t going to hurt me. My wolf recognized that truth before I did. What it didn’t know was I planned on hurting him first. Because I felt this pain all thanks to him.

"Do you forgive me for everything I’ve done, and everything I’ll do?"

I was appalled by the audacity, but I couldn’t leave. freёwebnovel.com

"I don’t know why I’ve seen you. I don’t know why you’re here. I don’t know what plans the moon goddess has for me. But I know that destiny is like a river. Sometimes, we can’t control its waves. But there’s always an outlier. An upset. When that occurs, do you think you’ll still be able to control the reins?"

Before he could respond, I dissolved into the void.
