Chapter 37: Chapter 37: Pulled by Pain

SONIA’S POV

It was perhaps trust in the kindness of the alpha Daisy that made me fall asleep.

When I opened my eyes again, I discovered the car was going through a gate.

My head was bent, but it didn’t hang in the air. It was actually resting on a surface.

A shudder ran through me, as I sprang into a straightened posture.

"What is it?" Alpha Daisy asked.

It was her thighs I had laid my head on.

"Nothing," I shook my head. "I’m sorry for falling asleep on your body."

She chuckled, and I could see the amusement dancing in her eyes, from the corner of mine.

"Are you seriously apologising for falling asleep? It’s normal. Besides, you deserve to. I hope you can get even more rest when we get to my quarters."

My frown deepened when a realisation struck me.

"He had to return. He saw we were safe and returned. That’s why you can’t feel him anymore," she said as if reading my thoughts.

A blush crept all over my face. "Oh," I said for lack of any other words to say.

"You can’t see my pack fully because it’s late. Hopefully by the morning, you’ll be able to see bits of it."

The car came to a stop in front of a building that looked like a cottage, and we both stepped out of it.

"This is the alpha’s cottage, and it’s where you’ll be staying throughout your duration here. I hope you like it," she said as she led me into the building.

For such a small exterior, the interior was grand.

The lights turned on the second we entered, and a woman stepped out in a bonnet, and a smile on her chubby face.

"Alpha!" She greeted us, as she ran forward.

"Grace. You’re still up? How is he?" She asked swiftly.

"Nothing has changed." Her face fell.

"Could you take her to the room I asked you to prepare? I’ll go see him."

She left in a haste, leaving me behind with the stranger that at least had a kind face.

"What’s your name?" She asked me.

"Oh, I’m Sonia," I replied.

"Sonia," she repeated. "It’s a beautiful name. A beautiful name befitting a beautiful girl. I’m guessing you want to change out of that dress, and rest for the night? Would you like anything to drink or eat?"

She was a yapper, and you could tell she genuinely loved to yap. Good thing she didn’t have an annoying voice. In fact, I enjoyed hearing her talk.

"I don’t want anything," I said.

"Alright, let’s go then!"

As she took me to the room I would be staying for the night, she talked all the way there.

She told me about farming season, the pack, and how everyone wanted to prove they could grow a crop more than the other.

How they turned it into a game where whoever yielded the best fruit would be alpha for the day, and how the alpha Daisy had approved of it. ƒreewebɳovel.com

Everything she told me just made me realize how much love the alpha Daisy had for her people. You could see the genuine light in her eyes as she spoke off her.

She stopped by a door, and turned to face me. "I’m sorry for talking nonstop. You must be exhausted already. You see, once I start, I find it hard to stop. Please forgive me."

I laughed. "You’re so funny, Grace. Why do I have to forgive you? Is it a crime to talk?"

She looked pleased, and the wide smile that stretched her cheeks testified to that fact. Opening the door, she stepped aside, allowing me to go through.

The room was so huge, and just as grand.

"This is where I’ll stay?" I gasped.

Even though my room was bigger than this, it had been a while since I slept in a room this big.

"Yes, you will. The alpha said to make you feel as comfortable as possible. Poor thing," she leaned against the door, and lowered her face.

"Poor thing?" I asked. I could tell she wanted to talk, and only needed a little encouragement so she wouldn’t look like she couldn’t reign it in.

"Despite how difficult life is, she still finds a way to care about others. Her heart is broken, and bleeding, but she still puts everyone first. I wish I could help her more than I already do. You know the man she loves is terribly sick, right?" ƒгeewёbnovel.com

"I do," I nodded. "This is why I’m here. To help her. To–" I pause as a staggering pain consumes me.

I grabbed the edge of the bed, and shut my eyes, waiting for the pain to pass.

It didn’t immediately, but only grew stronger.

"Are you okay?" I heard Grace’s voice behind me, and her hands on my shoulders.

"So much pain," I muttered.

"Do you need me to call the pack doctor?!"

"No, take me to him. I want to see him."

"Him? Who do you want to see?" I could hear the panic in her voice.

How could she understand me when she was panicking?

The door pushed open, and I heard the sound of dashing feets towards me.

"What’s happening to her, Grace?" it was the alpha Daisy’s voice.

"She said she wants to see him. I don’t know who she wants to see. She talked about pain. Lots of pain."

"Tyler," I heard her mutter, and my heart did a double take.

"You want to see Tyler, don’t you? Take her to him. Help me take her to him, Grace!" she screamed at the top of her voice.

I don’t know exactly how it happened. One second, I was leaning against the bed frame, and the next, I was being rushed out of the room, and carried to the room where the pain emanated from.

The closer we drew, the more ache I felt in my heart. Even my wolf could feel it. She was at rapt attention, hoping to jump in if the pain felt too great for my physical body to bear.

A door flung open, and I was dragged in. The second my foot touched the room, my eyes opened, and I ran towards the bed.

I was no longer in control of my body.

Dropping to my knees, I laid my head on the bed, and my eyes closed again.
