Chapter 20: Chapter 20 - Arresting
Vincent got a call when he was strolling around Jake’s house. He saw a few movements inside but nothing obvious that told that Jake was inside.
"Hello, Detective Vincent speaking." He said.
A sharp breath drew in from the other side and a cold voice responded. "Hi, I am from the police, I got the warrant and a few people with me."
"Good. Where are you guys? I am currently looking at Jake’s house."
"I am as well." The voice responded. "Let’s meet up in front of the house, directly in 5 minutes. You have the hero by your side right?"
"Yes."
The cold voice hung up. Vincent put back the phone inside his pocket and started the car.
Dawnstar peered over him with her huge green eyes. She grinned and chuckled to herself, thinking about something.
"Anything funny?" He rolled his eyes and asked.
"Nothing, I can just get used to you introducing yourself as a Detective."
"Like I said, I am a Detective." Vincent sighed. "Besides, don’t you always do missions with the government."
Dawnstar nodded.
"Then, you are not a stranger to meeting with a detective, right? What is funny about that?"
"Ah.. the detectives I met are always brute and serious. They always looked like this." Dawnstar demonstrated by giving a serious frown to her face, twisting her forehead.
Vincent laughed. "That is probably because they got tired of doing the same old work. Maybe I would as well." He sighed.
"Nah, there is no way, you will be serious. You look like a goofball."
"Ouch." Vincent clenched his heart and acted like she just jabbed at him.
He then suddenly stopped smiling and wore a professional mask. Dawnstar noticed and followed his eyes.
The black SUV card was slowly driving at the front road of Jake’s house. Instantly, Vincent recognized it as a police vehicle. They must also have noticed him and were probably waiting for his signals.
After all, he was the lead detective of this operation and carried the biggest weapon named Dawnstar. He swallowed a breath and pulled up in front of Jake’s house.
The SUV followed.
Immediately five policemen got out of the car, carrying a full energy gun in their hand. Vincent also got up, and showed what seemed to be the leader of the ground.
The leader quickly scanned at the car and nodded.
"Your call, sir." It was the same cold voice from earlier.
"We enter. Process." He ordered quickly.
The leader turned and signaled his men with hand signs. Two of the policemen stood beside the doorframe and checked the inside through the window.
One loudly bammed at the door and yelled. "Police. Drop yourself on the ground and stay there. Do you hear me?"
The two policemen circled the house with steady footsteps.
Vincent was impressed by the speed at which they executed the procedure. There was no hesitation behind their eyes and actions.
Nothing came up from the house.
The other policeman from the door looked at the leader, his eyes asking for permission.
The leader nodded.
The policemen stepped back and rammed through the door with his weight. Must be because of the technique, the door crumbled.
Vincent walked inside, following the policemen. Dawnstar took the lead, creating a light bulb with her power. She let it float inside the house.
Vincent noticed a few men and women dropping to their knees with frightened expressions. Their eyes were bloodshot, very clear that they were doing some kind of drugs.
But only one man alone was more frightened than the other. He was practically holding himself from pissing.
Vincent immediately recognized the man. Jake Goldberg.
Anger flashed on his face but he forced himself to calm down. The police worked and handcuffed the man and took back to the car.
They also arrested others for processing drugs and using them. But Vincent knew that they were probably going to be released in three days max. That was how it worked.
The arrest came to an end without a hitch.
Vincent drove his car and sent Dawnstar to her house. She got out of the car and closed, before tapping at the window with impatience.
"Hey." She said, calling his attention.
Vincent rolled down the window and asked with a smile. "Need anything? Or did you forget something?" freёwebnovel.com
"Not like that. I am just wondering if..."
"Yeah...." he dragged on with a playful tone.
"You know what? You are a man, you know what I mean. So act like one." Dawnstar slammed the car and walked away.
Vincent smiled and got out of the car, walking toward her with higher than a moderate speed.
Just as she was about to reach the door, he grabbed her hand softly, pulling her toward him.
He then used both his hands to grab her shoulders and shook. "Give me your number." He said flatly.
Dawnstar looked up with confusion.
"You already got my number right?"
"It is for your hero’s work right? I want your personal number."
"Why should I give it to you?" She pouted, turning away to the side. But she allowed him to grab hold of her.
Vincent smiled and pulled her chin to face him. "Give me, I want to meet you again." He said, softly.
"Fine. Give me your phone." Dawnstar said, trying to appear reluctant but she was clearly struggling to hide her smile.
She typed her number under the name Number one.
He looked at it and thought. Childish.
"What is your name?" He asked.
But Dawnstar was half entered inside the building. She turned, her pale blonde hair moving around, carried by the wind. A soft smell of shampoo still lingered on those straight hair.
"Next time." She said and closed the door.
Vincent smiled, shaking his head. He turned and left.
His work hadn’t finished yet. He still needed to write a report, a detailed one. When he arrived at the division, he got himself in an empty room and started writing. He wrote every single detail he remembered and how he formed the thought train with the information he got.
After finishing the final sentence, he read again to check the mistakes and went to the captain’s office.
He noticed a few detectives lying dead, almost like zombies. The works here had drained their souls and fed to the criminals.
He hoped that he won’t be like them in the future. But it was wishful thinking on his part.
"Here,sir."
He placed the report over to the desk. The captain was reading the newly made paperwork and contemplating.
"Good job, detective. You can leave now. I still need to attend the meeting with various members to discuss your place in the future."
"Yes, sir." Vincent bowed down and left.
He looked at the watch.
4 PM.
He still had some time before going to his place. Suddenly, he remembered the promise with Hera, a flame headed Milf.
He nodded at himself and drove the car he picked up from the government and left.
He stopped at Hera’s house and left the car, standing in front of the house. He felt nostalgia for some reason. It had only been a week and yet, he had a job and a roof over his head.
Funny how, life changed fast.
He looked at the orange sky and noticed some heroes flying around in groups. The flying car was prohibited from moving here as the chance of crashing was much higher and most houses here didn’t have energy shields.
