Chapter 271: The Light That Cut Through Despair
The Light That Cut Through Despair
Then suddenly—
Lane felt something.
A familiar fluctuation of mana.
Her eyes narrowed.
The sensation rapidly approached from the distance.
It wasn’t the presence she truly wished to see.
Not Victor.
But it was someone she recognized.
Someone powerful.
For the first time in hours, a faint ripple appeared within her calm black eyes.
Far beyond the sea of undead, a streak of silver-white light tore across the battlefield.
BOOM!
Several incoming spells exploded before they could even reach their target.
As the spells from the surrounding undead mages intensified, a woman wielding a Long Sword joined the battle.
Videl arrived like a falling star.
Her long blonde hair danced wildly behind her while her blue sapphire eyes scanned the battlefield.
The moment she appeared, she immediately stepped in front of another incoming barrage.
With the large sword at hand, she slashed at the incoming spells absorbing them. She then countered using a sword wave.
A crescent-shaped blade of compressed mana erupted from the Long Sword.
The sword wave ripped through dozens of undead.
Skeletons shattered.
Corpses exploded.
Dark mana dispersed into the air.
Even though slashing weapons like a sword was not as effective against undead, with her raw power alone that defect wasn’t really worth anything.
Several undead mages were cut apart before they even realized what happened.
The battlefield instantly became chaotic.
Then from the encirclement of the undead, two ladies one wielding a halberd shining blazing red and the other wielding what looked to be the blade of a guillotine were having a competition on who kills more undead.
Ruby’s blazing red halberd swept through the battlefield.
Every swing released waves of crimson flames.
Entire groups of undead were engulfed.
Beside her, Natalia laughed as she wielded her enormous guillotine-like weapon.
The massive blade rose and fell repeatedly.
Every strike split several enemies apart.
"I’ve killed twenty!"
"Wrong."
Natalia casually bisected another undead knight.
"Twenty-three."
"You’re counting wrong!"
"I’m counting better than you."
The two beautiful maidens with weapons at hand were plowing through the horde of undead.
For the first time since the battle started, the pressure around Lane’s group lessened.
The undead formation was beginning to crack.
Eon burst into laughter.
"Hahaha! About damn time!"
Brinda released a long breath she didn’t realize she had been holding.
"I was beginning to think nobody was coming."
Videl quickly reached Lane’s side.
The blonde swordswoman immediately noticed the injuries covering Lane’s body.
Cuts.
Bruises.
Blood.
Exhaustion hidden beneath her usual calm expression.
A brief flash of concern appeared in Videl’s eyes.
"How are you holding up?" Videl who had joined the battle stood beside Lane and asked.
"A little bit tired, but now that you’re here protect my body as I rest."
Without any hesitation, Lane suddenly slept in the middle of the battlefield. It didn’t even take her a second before she was able to enter the world of dreams.
The battlefield became strangely quiet.
Even Eon stared.
Brinda blinked twice.
Ruby and Natalia, who were healing Eon and Brinda, looked completely stunned.
"Did she just fall asleep?"
"She did."
"In the middle of a battlefield?"
"Apparently."
Videl could only smile wryly as she picked up the sleeping Lane.
The only reason Lane acted like this was because of her trust that Videl could protect her.
Aside from Victor, Lane only trusted Skyla and Videl, and sometimes Clara.
Knowing how strong Videl was, she knew that she could easily protect her body as she rested.
Lane’s breathing quickly became peaceful.
The terrifying battlefield around them no longer mattered.
She had finally allowed herself to rest.
Videl adjusted Lane more comfortably in her arms before turning toward the others.
Her expression became serious.
The undead army still vastly outnumbered them.
Remaining here would only lead to death.
"We’re going to retreat, once I open up a path all of you start running. Ruby, Natalia if you can please take the rear guard."
Hearing Videl’s order made Ruby and Natalia smile.
"Aside from my God, you are the only one who has ever ordered me to do anything. Very well, seeing as you’re my future Hero and going become sworn sister I’ll do as you say." Ruby happily responded.
Natalia smiled elegantly.
"Very well, I will do as you say, my future sworn sister."
The moment Ruby heard that response, her smile twitched.
A dangerous spark appeared inside her green eyes.
Future sworn sister?
That sounded far too confident.
Before she could respond, Videl shouted at them.
"Everyone get ready! I’m opening a path now."
Videl carefully passed Lane’s sleeping body to Eon.
The giant warrior accepted her immediately.
Even in his injured state, he handled Lane as if carrying something precious.
Videl then gripped the Long Sword tightly with both hands.
’Amura help me in this.’
Inside the sword, the spirit immediately answered.
’As you wish my master.’
Mana erupted.
The Long Sword began glowing with brilliant white light.
The surrounding air trembled.
The ground cracked.
Countless undead instinctively paused.
Even the distant undead mages stopped casting.
Everyone could feel the terrifying amount of mana gathering into a single attack.
Brinda’s eyes widened.
Ruby and Natalia stared in disbelief. ƒreewebɳovel.com
The glow became brighter.
And brighter.
Until it resembled a miniature sun.
Videl with the assistance of Amura started to gather a massive amount of mana into the sword. The sword started to glow pure white.
She then slashed Horizontally creating a massive sword wave that sliced through the trees, the undead and everything in its way.
BOOOOOOM!
The world seemed to split apart.
A gigantic path appeared through the center of the undead army.
Trees collapsed.
Undead exploded into dust.
The earth itself cracked under the pressure.
The attack continued for hundreds of meters.
Nothing could stop it.
A huge path was created inside the encirclement, this sword technique almost drained all of Videl’s mana, she only left enough for her to be able to escape.
The people who were with Videl, were stunned.
Even the holy maidens that have seen a lot of powerful individuals only knew only a few people that could replicate that move and those people were old masters.
On the other hand, Videl was still young and had more potential for growth.
Knowing this made the two holy maidens want Videl even more.
"What are you guys doing run!" Hearing Videl’s shout the others were jolted awake as they started running for their lives
