Chapter 429: Chapter 427: A Change in the Situation
The Giant Arm and the Spitter emerged from the tunnel, and before they even had a chance to observe the situation, they instantly sensed danger.
The Giant Arm fared better. Although the attack came suddenly, in its Perception, it was only a minor threat. It paid it no mind, casually raising a hand to block it.
However, for the Spitter, those bullets were a completely different matter.
The Giant Arm’s Defense Power was far beyond what the Spitter could match. It wouldn’t be an exaggeration to say that the Spitter’s Defense Power was barely any stronger than that of a High Level Zombie.
So, the moment Lin Xinghai locked onto it, it instantly sensed a lethal threat.
The Spitter’s Speed wasn’t actually slow, and with the advance warning from its sense of danger, it should have had more than enough Time to get behind the Giant Arm.
However, before it could even make a move, it instantly felt a strange Power enter its body and begin to relentlessly drain its Life Force.
The Spitter was a Mutated Zombie, after all. Its Life Force was far beyond that of an ordinary Zombie, so of course it wouldn’t die in just a moment or two.
However, the draining of its Life Force caused its physical condition to deteriorate rapidly. Its Power, Speed, and even its reaction time all began to decline.
At such a critical juncture, this decline in its condition was the difference between life and death.
Instantly, over a dozen bullets struck its head. Nearly every opening a bullet could penetrate—its eyes, ears, mouth, and nose—was hit.
In particular, its large mouth, used for spitting venom, had ten bullets fired directly into it.
In the blink of an eye, the powerful kinetic energy of the bullets ripped its mouth to shreds. The maw that once spat venom could only cough up a mouthful of blood in its final moment.
Then, it crashed heavily to the ground, dead.
The entire process was over in less than a second.
By the time it died, the Spitter hadn’t even gotten a clear look at its surroundings.
The Giant Arm hadn’t paid much mind to Lin Xinghai’s attack at first. But when it sensed its companion’s presence vanish, it froze on the spot, and a moment later, a towering rage erupted from within it.
It never, ever would have imagined its companion would die so easily. And in its Perception, the killers were just two humans it could swat dead with a single slap.
ROAR!
An enraged roar echoed through the entire street.
The Giant Arm shielded its head with one arm and swung its other toward Lin Xinghai, intending to smash the two tiny insects before it into a bloody pulp.
However, its seemingly unstoppable slap missed its mark, leaving only a huge crater in the road surface.
The hand the Giant Arm was using to shield its face parted slightly, its eyes peering through the gap to size up the two humans before it. Its expression was one of utter shock.
It was certain it hadn’t misjudged their presence; the auras of these two humans were on a completely different level from its own.
But it couldn’t understand how they had just dodged its attack so easily.
The Giant Arm may have been stunned, but Lin Xinghai was not. Seeing that the Giant Arm before him was staring, seemingly a bit dazed, Lin Xinghai seized the fleeting opportunity and pulled the trigger.
The bullet shot through the narrow gap in the Giant Arm’s guarding hand and struck its fist-sized eye directly.
AAGH!
As the bullet struck its eye, a pained roar erupted from the Giant Arm’s mouth.
But the Giant Arm’s Defense Power was truly no joke.
After piercing the eyeball, the bullet had lost most of its kinetic energy. The slug lodged itself in the muscle behind the socket, completely unable to reach the brain.
Seeing this, Lin Xinghai felt a twinge of regret. ’If only I had Armor-Piercing Bullets,’ he thought. ’Even if that shot couldn’t kill it, it would have definitely inflicted a serious wound on the Giant Arm.’
Of course, he wasn’t in a rush. ’I can just wear it down slowly.’
With one of its eyes blown out, the Giant Arm no longer cared why this human was so fast. All it wanted now was to smash him into a bloody pulp.
Yet, no matter how furiously it gave chase, it couldn’t catch Lin Xinghai.
At this point, Lin Xinghai was going all out. His Speed, nearing 800 points, was faster than even the vast majority of Tier One Mutated Zombies.
That, of course, included the Giant Arm.
A Strength Type Mutated Zombie like the Giant Arm typically has a Speed between 700 and 750.
Its Speed couldn’t even compare to the Spitter’s.
However, the Spitter’s Defense Power was weak, while the Giant Arm’s Speed was lacking. This was precisely why Lin Xinghai dared to stay and engage it.
Of course, since he was carrying Liu Miaomiao on his back, his Speed was slightly affected.
But this minor impact was nothing compared to the contribution Liu Miaomiao was making.
As Liu Miaomiao continuously used her Life Control Superpower to drain the Giant Arm’s Life Force, its condition was steadily declining.
This allowed Lin Xinghai to handle the beast with even greater ease, and he would take any spare moment to fire off a few shots.
However, as long as the creature didn’t let its guard down, it was difficult for Lin Xinghai to inflict any further damage on the Giant Arm.
After all, as long as it used one arm to protect its head, shooting any other part of its body was useless.
However, Lin Xinghai’s goal was merely to tie the creature down, not kill it, so he wasn’t too concerned about whether he could actually wound it.
What concerned him more now was what exactly was going on.
He could hear constant roars in the distance. The sounds were not only massive but also piercing—the kind of roar that no High Level Zombie could produce. Only Mutated Zombies were capable of it.
And these sounds were coming from every direction. ’Judging from the roars alone,’ he thought, ’the number of Mutated Zombies must be at least fifty.’
Upon realizing this, Lin Xinghai was horrified. He had absolutely no idea what was going on.
But he knew one thing for sure. ’For the other examinees, this is an absolute catastrophe.’
’And they won’t just be facing the Mutated Zombies.’
’These Mutated Zombies aren’t just roaring for no reason; they’re summoning the other Zombies. A massive horde is probably about to form in this area.’
But while Lin Xinghai was shocked, little did he know that someone else was even more flabbergasted.
...
After Zuo Wenya departed, Lü Wei began arranging personnel for rescue operations, all while keeping a close eye on the situation in various locations.
His main concern, of course, was the top geniuses.
He was especially worried about Lin Xinghai. Of all the top geniuses, Lin Xinghai was by far the unluckiest, because a tunnel had opened up just thirty meters from his assigned quarters.
When he saw two Mutated Zombies charge out of it, Lü Wei’s heart leaped into his throat.
He felt, however, that Lin Xinghai still had a chance of escaping if he chose to run.
After all, the Mutated Zombies weren’t targeting Lin Xinghai specifically. As long as he ran faster than everyone else, he’d be safe.
However, when Lü Wei saw that Lin Xinghai didn’t flee—and was instead charging *toward* the two Mutated Zombies—he felt the blood rush to his head. He swore he had never seen such a foolish top genius.
But what happened next left him utterly dumbfounded.
