Chapter 655: Chapter 655: Sensing Qin Yue’s Location
"Are you sure you can’t talk?" Ye Qingchen smiled as he squeezed his fist, the sound of his knuckles cracking echoing throughout the grand hall.
The old man swallowed hard. "No, no, that’s not it, young man! Calm down, please!" he pleaded. "I do know a little about this, but I’ve only ever heard the name. Besides, if I actually said anything, I’d probably be captured and left to die without a proper burial."
The old man’s expression twisted in terror, as if he had just remembered something horrifying.
"You’re afraid of being captured? Aren’t you afraid of me killing you?" Ye Qingchen’s eyes narrowed.
The old man swallowed hard again. "Then... then just kill me! I’d rather you kill me than be captured and tortured by them!" he declared, adopting a look of heroic martyrdom.
Ye Qingchen couldn’t help but straighten up. This old man really is a tough nut to crack!
"Since that’s your choice, then there’s no reason to keep you around!" As he spoke, Ye Qingchen slowly raised his hand.
Seeing that he was serious, the old man panicked. "No, no, no! Young man, we can talk about this! There’s always room for discussion!"
Feeling the immense pressure emanating from Ye Qingchen, he could no longer sit still. He had taken a gamble and lost. "While I can’t speak directly, I can give you a piece of information!" he rushed to say.
Ye Qingchen frowned. "Speak!"
"Y-You can go look in the very center of the Jiang Ancient Clan’s territory." After saying this, the old man shut his eyes.
"The very center?" Ye Qingchen murmured, stroking his chin. The very heart of the Jiang Ancient Clan was where their Saint Heir resided. Could Qin Yue be there?
A moment later, Ye Qingchen turned and walked outside, where the red-haired lad was waiting. He immediately moved to block his path.
"Stop right there, kid!"
Ye Qingchen didn’t waste any words on him. With a slight lift of his hand, he sent the red-haired lad flying backward. A blow like that would take him at least ten to fifteen days to recover from. Not lingering, Ye Qingchen glanced at the lad before heading toward the center of the Jiang Ancient Clan’s domain.
The red-haired lad was sent flying, crashing into an ancient tree so thick it would take two men to encircle it. At that same instant, he coughed up a mouthful of blood.
"Damn it! Damn it all! How could he be so strong!" Fear now mingled with his rage. He didn’t dare try to stop Ye Qingchen again, but the humiliation of being thrown to the ground fueled an unstoppable anger within him.
"Are you all right? Are you all right?" It took his companions a moment to process what had just happened. They scrambled over to the red-haired lad’s side, hastily checking his injuries.
Gritting his teeth against the searing pain, the red-haired lad struggled to his feet. "Damn it, forget about me! All of you, spread the word that this kid is looking for someone. The more people who know, the better!" he snarled, his eyes bloodshot as he clenched his fists.
His followers looked at him in confusion. "But... how do you know he’s looking for someone?" They had no idea what Ye Qingchen had said inside.
The red-haired lad sneered. "So what if he isn’t? The clan is cracking down hard right now. They won’t let anyone who’s looking for someone slip by! Since we can’t handle him ourselves, we’ll let someone else do our dirty work! The Jiang Ancient Clan will definitely not let him get away with it!" he finished, bursting into wild laughter.
His men could only nod and do as he commanded.
After leaving the eastern district, Ye Qingchen quickly arrived in the inner city of the Jiang Ancient Clan. It was clearly much livelier than the outer city, and he continued heading toward the center. Soon, a wall over five meters high appeared before him. As he drew closer, he suddenly felt a faint aura.
It’s Qin Yue! Ye Qingchen looked toward the wall with a jolt of excitement. Looks like that old man didn’t lie to me! Qin Yue really is here!
"Hey, hey! What do you think you’re doing!" a group of patrolling guards suddenly shouted at him. "This is the Jiang Ancient Clan’s Ancient Temple! Unauthorized personnel must leave at once!"
Ye Qingchen snapped back to his senses and retreated a few steps. He had been so overjoyed that he hadn’t noticed the heavy security. This Ancient Temple was home to the most important figures of the Jiang Ancient Clan. Without an invitation, he couldn’t just walk in.
He scanned the area and saw that the walls were crawling with guards. The chances of slipping in were slim to none, and forcing his way in was even more foolish. Besides, he still didn’t know what situation Qin Yue was in. If he barged in recklessly, he might inadvertently bring her harm.
Ye Qingchen walked over to a nearby restaurant and took a seat.
"Sir, what can I get for you?" a waiter asked, warmly greeting him.
Ye Qingchen waved him over. "I’d like to ask you something. How can someone like me get into that Ancient Temple?"
The waiter was visibly stunned. "Sir, you must be joking. For ordinary people like us, getting in there is harder than ascending to the heavens! That wall is guarded by numerous Martial Emperor Realm masters, to say nothing of what’s inside. Well, it’s not entirely impossible. If you have a summons from the Saint Heir, you can get in. But, haha, what chance do we have of that?" the waiter rambled on with a laugh.
Ye Qingchen couldn’t help but frown. A summons from the Saint Heir? That’s impossible! He doesn’t even know me...
"Waiter, is there really no other way in?"
The waiter scratched his head, about to say no, when he suddenly recalled something. "Oh, right! Sir, they have been arresting people lately. I’ve seen quite a few foreigners being taken in there!"
The waiter’s words were a revelation. Kuang Tie had said that many foreigners looking for people were being quietly dealt with. He never expected they’d be taken inside the Ancient Temple to be handled!
Still, this is an opportunity. It seems the only way in is to get arrested... but how do I arrange that? Ye Qingchen propped his head on his hand, his eyes fixed on the towering wall in the distance as his mind raced.
"Don’t move!"
Suddenly, the cold blade of a large sword was pressed against his neck. In the next instant, a throng of armed men swarmed him. The other patrons in the restaurant had never witnessed such a scene; they dropped their chopsticks in terror and fled for the door. The waiter who had just served him dove behind the counter, trembling from head to toe.
A man dressed in the clothes of the Jiang Ancient Clan approached. His eyes were cold, and he looked at Ye Qingchen as if he were already a corpse. "I hear you’re looking for someone," he sneered. "Well? Am I the one you’re looking for?"
Seeing these men, Ye Qingchen’s eyes lit up. Talk about perfect timing. I was just wondering how to get captured, and they came right to my door!
"Of course you’re not who I’m looking for," Ye Qingchen replied, getting up enthusiastically. "You’re here to arrest me, aren’t you? Let’s go!"
His eager attitude stunned everyone present.
