Dexter felt a sudden, deep ache in his chest as he read the description. A level six out of ten chronic nerve pain, constantly firing through her body while she sat there, unable to move a single finger to soothe it. No wonder her voice was always so bitter and cold.

"I can feel your eyes on me," Mira said suddenly. "See something you like, husband?"

Before Dexter could find a response, a sharp, choked gasp shattered the silence.

Selene Frost, who had been sitting quietly on the far edge of the old sofa, suddenly stiffened.

Her breath hitched in her throat, a soft, wheezing sound escaping her lips. Dexter’s head snapped toward her. He recognized the signs instantly—another icy seizure was beginning.

"Selene!" he called out.

The temperature in the small living room plummeted instantly. The air grew so cold that Dexter’s breath turned into thick, white plumes. Frost began to bloom rapidly across Selene’s pale skin, turning the ends of her dark hair a stark, icy white. Thin, delicate sheets of ice began to crawl across the fabric of the sofa, spreading down the wooden legs and onto the floorboards.

She was sitting right at the very edge of the cushions. As her body began to convulse, her balance wavered. She began to tilt forward, her sightless eyes wide with silent panic.

If she fell, her head would slam directly into the sharp edge of the low wooden coffee table. With her frail, weakened body, such an impact could easily result in a fatal head injury or a fractured skull.

Dexter did not hesitate.

"Flame Burst Step!"

His body moved before his mind could even register the command. 5 points of mana vanished from his core, and a soft, low thud of heat exploded beneath his feet. In an instant, his speed tripled. He blurred across the short distance, his hand reaching out to catch her just as her shoulders cleared the edge of the seat.

He wrapped his arms around her shivering frame, pulling her back against his chest.

The moment his skin made contact with her shoulders, a biting, intense cold surged through his arms. The frost on her cardigan transferred to his sleeves, turning the fabric stiff and white. It felt as though a hundred tiny needles of ice were driving deep into his flesh, trying to freeze the blood in his hands.

But Dexter held on. He gritted his teeth and immediately activated Flame Will.

A burst of heat surged from his hands as he tried to contain the frost but it was like a candle in a hurricane

With his right hand, he reached into his pocket and pulled out one of the emergency syringes he had purchased from the pharmacy earlier. He removed the cap with his teeth, lined up the needle against her shoulder, and pressed the plunger, injecting the warm, thick serum directly into her system.

The seizure lasted for thirty seconds.

To Dexter, it felt like hours.

Gradually, the violent tremors in her limbs began to slow, and the rapid spread of frost on the floorboards halted, the thin layers of ice slowly melting into small pools of water.

When the episode finally passed, Selene slumped forward against his shoulder, completely unconscious. Her skin was still damp and pale, but her breathing had returned to a slow, even rhythm.

Throughout the entire ordeal, neither Lyra nor Mira glanced at their direction. They seemed to have gotten used to Selene’s condition.

Dexter’s gently lifted her, carrying her small, fragile body into the bedroom, and laid her down on the large, combined mattress. He pulled three thick blankets over her, tucking her in tightly to ensure she would stay warm then turned on the radiator.

’The sickness seem to be acting up faster than usual.’

Dexter wiped the remaining frost from his hands, thinking about the time intervals when a clear, familiar sound echoed in his mind.

’Ding!’

```
Dexter was pleasantly surprised. With this system, maybe he would eventually find a cure for her.
He closed his eyes and accepted the rewards.
