Chapter 39: 39 | A Level 3 Super human Assassin

Dexter tightened his grip on the steering wheel.

His enhanced hearing remained stretched to its absolute limit. Every sound within several hundred meters flowed into his mind like a river of information.

The assassin on the bridge had already chambered another round.

He was waiting...

Waiting for the perfect angle.

The bridge was getting closer. In a few seconds, the SUV would pass directly beneath it. The sniper would have a clear, unobstructed shot straight down into the vehicle.

Dexter glanced at the rearview mirror.

The girls were still crouched beneath the windows.

"Stay down!" he shouted.

"Don’t raise your heads no matter what happens!"

The three silently obeyed.

Another faint metallic click echoed above.

The sniper had locked onto them again.

Dexter immediately made his decision.

If I keep driving, he’ll keep shooting...

He has the high ground. He has the angle.

"Then I’ll take away his line of sight."

His right hand yanked the handbrake with all his strength.

SCREECH — !

The tires screamed against the asphalt.

The SUV spun nearly 180 degrees across the highway.

Several nearby vehicles slammed on their brakes as tires screeched. Fenders crumpled.

One sedan clipped the rear of the SUV, sending sparks flying as traffic descended into complete chaos.

The vehicle now sat sideways in the middle of the highway.

The sniper could no longer see them.

Dexter finally released a slow breath.

But the relief lasted less than a second.

Thud.

Thud.

Two heavy impacts echoed from the sides of the vehicle.

Dexter’s pupils shrank.

Someone had landed on both sides of the car simultaneously.

The sniper wasn’t acting alone.

This wasn’t just an assassination.

It was an ambush.

The next instant —

A black-clothed figure leapt from the bridge above.

BOOM!

He landed squarely on the hood of the SUV.

The entire vehicle shook violently. The hood caved in like a piece of paper being crushed by a fist. Deep dents spread outward from the point of impact.

The windshield shattered completely. Thousands of glass fragments flew inward like transparent rain.

The engine compartment collapsed with a sickening crunch.

Even the front tires burst instantly.

Smoke rose from the ruined vehicle. Thin gray wisps that curled upward into the morning sky.

The man’s black combat suit fluttered in the wind. It was tight against his body, revealing lean muscles and a frame built for speed and power. A mask concealed his face. Only his cold eyes remained visible. They were cold dark and deadly.

He slowly lifted his head.

Through the shattered windshield...

His gaze met Dexter’s.

A terrifying pressure filled the air.

Dexter immediately sensed it.

Superhuman Realm...

At least Level Three.

His expression became solemn.

This was no ordinary assassin.

Before he could react further —

Bang!

The rear door on Mira’s side was suddenly ripped open. The door flew across the highway and tumbled end over end before crashing into the guardrail.

A second masked assassin reached inside, his gloved hand grabbing toward the nearest girl. His fingers closed around Selene’s arm.

Dexter didn’t even turn around.

His wrist flicked.

A silver hairpin appeared between his fingers and shot through the air almost silently. It moved so fast it was barely visible.

Pfft!

The needle pierced straight through the assassin’s temple.

The masked man froze. His grip on Selene’s arm loosened. His eyes went blank.

His body collapsed lifelessly onto the highway. He hit the ground with a dull thud and didn’t move again.

Before the corpse even touched the ground —

The opposite rear door was yanked open.

A third assassin lunged toward Lyra. This one was faster. More careful. He moved low, keeping his body below the window line as he reached inside.

Dexter’s fingers moved again.

Another needle flew.

This particular assassin reacted much faster this time. He tilted his head sharply to the side, narrowly avoiding the attack. The needle sailed past his ear by less than an inch.

A cruel smile appeared beneath his mask.

"So that’s your trick —"

He never finished the sentence.

The flying needle suddenly changed direction in midair. It curved unnaturally, as if pulled by an invisible hand.

The Aim Assist ability engraved into the weapon redirected its path with perfect precision.

The needle pierced straight through his throat.

Pfft!

The assassin’s eyes widened in disbelief. His hands flew to his neck. Blood poured between his fingers, hot and dark. He made a wet gurgling sound as he tried to breathe.

He collapsed beside his companion. His legs twitched twice before going still.

Silence.

Two assassins...

Dead within seconds.

The man standing atop the hood witnessed everything.

His eyes narrowed dangerously.

"So..."

"You’re Dexter."

His voice was cold enough to freeze the air as his face was expressionless.

Then, slowly...

He drew two blades from behind his back.

They were long and thin, almost like elongated daggers. Blue lightning crackled across their edges of the blade as the air trembled.

His aura expanded and the pressure of a level 3 Super human hero spread out.

"You just killed two of my men."

"And now..."

"I’m going to carve you into pieces."

...

Dexter slowly pushed open the damaged car door.

He stepped out onto the highway.

The moment his feet touched the asphalt, his aura quietly spread outward. It wasn’t flashy. There were no visible flames or lightning. Just a subtle pressure that made the air around him feel heavier.

His gaze remained locked on the masked assassin standing atop the ruined hood.

Dexter said calmly. "Attacking innocent civilians in broad daylight. You’ve got quite the nerve."

The assassin let out a cold chuckle.

"Innocent?"

His eyes swept toward the girls still crouched inside the car. His gaze lingered on them for a moment before returning to Dexter.

"Why would I care if you are innocent?"

Before Dexter could reply —

"BOOM!"

The assassin kicked off the hood. The already-crushed metal exploded beneath his feet, sending chunks of steel flying in every direction.

Like a bolt of lightning, he shot straight toward Dexter as a sonic boom echoed behind him.

The twin swords whistled through the air, aiming directly for Dexter’s neck. The blue lightning on their edges screamed with a high-pitched whine.
