Chapter 282: Chapter 282: Admirer
"Miss Ning, how did you do that? It was incredible," an officer said, unable to hide his excitement.
Everyone could feel the volatile spiritual power in the air calm down. Shen Shiye had just destroyed the isolation door, triggering an alarm. Upon hearing the siren, the hospital’s emergency response team had assembled and rushed over, fully armed.
They had received word that a high-ranking officer with 3S-level spiritual power had triggered the alarm, so they were extremely tense and prepared for the worst. However, by the time they arrived, the alarm had stopped, and there were no signs of anyone running rampant.
The emergency response team’s captain saw Ying Yaoshi and the others. Sensing the immense power radiating from them, he assumed they were the ones who had resolved the crisis.
"I apologize, Marshal. We were late. Thank you for resolving this crisis for us." The response team’s captain, whose surname was Feng, recognized Ying Yaoshi. With the Grand Marshal present, no berserker, regardless of their Level, could cause much of a stir.
"The crisis hasn’t been averted, merely suppressed for now. Please get your dean over here as soon as possible," Ying Yaoshi said, his expression grim.
"Huh? Didn’t the Dean say General Shen was beyond saving?" Captain Feng asked, looking at Ying Yaoshi nervously.
"Stop asking so many questions and just get Dean Wen," Ying Yaoshi snapped impatiently.
"Right away." Cowed by Ying Yaoshi’s intimidating presence, Captain Feng reluctantly sent a communication to Dean Wen.
A short while later, a tall, middle-aged woman with black-framed glasses and a chilly air about her hurried over. ƒreewebηoveℓ.com
"Shouldn’t you be at the Military Department, Marshal, instead of running over to my hospital to throw your weight around? I’m just as upset as you that we couldn’t save General Shen. Dragging me over here as if you’re summoning the grim reaper, do you expect me to trade my life for his?" Dean Wen said, giving Ying Yaoshi and the others a hostile look.
Ying Yaoshi remained composed, but the other generals immediately bowed their heads respectfully to Dean Wen, not daring to utter a word. Which of them hadn’t been injured before? Given their high Levels, most of their more serious wounds had been treated by Dean Wen herself. So, as the Dean fumed, the generals could only exchange wide-eyed glances, none of them daring to speak up.
"Dean Wen, you speak too harshly. You are a woman of great prestige and virtue; how would I dare to overstep in your territory? But Shen Shiye’s condition has improved. I was hoping you could assess him and see if a new treatment plan can be formulated." Ying Yaoshi was also quite courteous to the life-saving dean.
Dean Wen composed herself and only then noticed that the turbulent energy was, in fact, gone. With a gentle flick of her hand, several red, silken threads emerged from her palm, snaking through the holes in the isolation door and into the room beyond.
A moment later, an expression of disbelief spread across Dean Wen’s face. "How did he manage that?"
The red threads at Dean Wen’s fingertips trembled. Inside the isolation room, the golden motes of light representing Bloodline Energy were converging within Shen Shiye’s body in an unbelievable pattern.
’That’s not right. He was clearly showing symptoms of genetic collapse, and that process is irreversible.’ "What just happened? Who treated him?" Dean Wen looked at Ying Yaoshi with fervent eyes, then followed his gaze to Ning Xuan.
At first, Dean Wen hadn’t paid any mind to the unfamiliar face in the crowd. After all, Ning Xuan looked far too young.
"Dean Wen, allow me to introduce my Contractor, Ning Xuan. She just graduated from the Central Star Military Academy and is an Alchemist."
"Ning Xuan, this is Dean Wen Shi of the Field Hospital." Ying Yaoshi introduced the two.
Upon hearing Ying Yaoshi’s introduction, Dean Wen gave Ning Xuan a peculiar look. Her eyes then flickered unintentionally toward the back, and Ning Xuan, following her gaze, noticed the elegant, intellectual-looking woman in a white lab coat standing behind her.
Ning Xuan had noticed her earlier. The beautiful doctor had been staring at Ying Yaoshi the whole time. When she heard him introduce Ning Xuan’s role, her face went deathly pale, as if she’d suffered a terrible blow. ’Looks like she’s one of Ying Yaoshi’s admirers,’ Ning Xuan thought.
Ning Xuan raised an eyebrow and took a step forward. "A pleasure to meet you, Dean Wen."
"Hello, Miss Ning. You’re quite the rising star. Your Spiritual Power Level has broken through to S-Class, has it not?" Dean Wen asked, her tone casual.
"Just a lucky break," Ning Xuan answered simply. There was no reason to hide her Spiritual Power Level, but since they had just met, there was no need to elaborate.
"Truly outstanding. Sigh... So many young Controllers have wanted to marry General Ying, but he’s turned them all down. We all thought..." Dean Wen trailed off, suddenly realizing she might have said too much.
"You introduced me to Miss Ning... Are you saying she was the one who treated General Shen just now?" Dean Wen asked, studying Ning Xuan.
"Yes. He was having difficulty controlling his actions, but he hadn’t completely lost his senses. I first used my spiritual power to calm him, then I gave him a dose of medicine. His condition should be gradually improving now," Ning Xuan said, her voice laced with confidence.
"Miss Ning, you’re very talented. Are you here to take up a position at our base?" Dean Wen asked, her gaze intense.
"Dean, even you were unable to calm General Shen down earlier. On what grounds could *she* use her spiritual power to soothe him? That’s obviously nonsense! She’s just making up lies to take all the credit!" The elegant doctor, whose name was Qin Hongyu, couldn’t stop herself from stepping forward to challenge her.
The other doctors on the medical team began whispering amongst themselves. They had also been part of the effort to treat General Shen and were well aware of his condition at the time. Qin Hongyu’s accusation thus sparked a flurry of discussion.
"Miss Ning isn’t lying. We can all testify to that," one of the officers beside Ying Yaoshi spoke up.
"Hongyu, that’s enough. General Shen will require further treatment. Whether Ning Xuan has real skills or is just putting on an act will become clear soon enough." Dean Wen saw right through Qin Hongyu’s petty jealousy and quickly intervened, not wanting the scene to get any uglier.
Ning Xuan knew the Dean had a point and couldn’t be bothered to argue with Qin Hongyu. Instead, she silently looped her arm through Ying Yaoshi’s and, hiding the movement, gave his bicep a hard pinch.
The pinch landed right on his whip wound. Caught completely off guard, Ying Yaoshi let out a soft hiss of pain, his expression contorting for a split second before he quickly smoothed it over as others glanced their way.
"Then we’ll leave the subsequent treatment plan in your hands, Dean Wen," Ying Yaoshi said with a smile.
"Very well. Response team, go ahead and dismantle the door," Dean Wen ordered Captain Feng.
Hearing the Dean’s order, the faces of the other attending Doctors on the medical team went pale. "Dean, why are we dismantling the door?"
