Chapter 291: Chapter 291: The Heart of a Male Lead

Han Ruyan felt the resistance. He felt the coldness in Lin En’s touch.

He had spent days using forbidden, soul burning techniques to track her through the distorted dimensions. He had risked his life and his sanity, terrified that his precious female was being bullied or eaten by Zerg. He had come rushing to her side with nothing but love and desperation in his heart.

And what did he find?

He found her flirting with a red haired lion. He found her giving him a look of pure disgust, as if his very presence was a mistake.

Suddenly, something inside Han Ruyan’s mind cracked. The rage that he had been trying to suppress for her sake began to boil over. His eyes, once full of relief, turned into stormy pits of darkness.

His hands, which were resting on Lin En’s waist, tightened with a strength that made her bones creak.

"Let go?" Han Ruyan whispered, his voice turning into a chilling, low growl. "After I walked through hell to find you? You want me to let go so you can go back to your ’lion’?"

"You’re hurting me!" Lin En hissed, pinching his arms. "Han Ruyan, stop it! Everyone is watching!"

"Let them watch," he replied, his grip becoming even harder. "Let the whole world see that you belong to me. If you try to run again, Lin En... I’ll break your legs and carry you myself."

Lin En shuddered. She realized that the Female Lead luck she relied on was backfiring. She had attracted a man who was too strong, too crazy, and too obsessed. freeweɓnovēl.coɱ

Yue Yue watched the drama unfold from a distance, her eyes wide. She looked at the silver haired lunatic and the fuming "heroine," and then she glanced at the masked man in black. He was standing perfectly still, his eyes fixed on Yue Yue through the shadows of his hood.

This isn’t a survival journey, Yue Yue realized, her skin prickling with dread. This is a nest of monsters. And I’m the only one here who isn’t a predator.

She clutched her Dragon Sword tighter, her heart aching for the warmth of her real husbands. Around them, the Zerg began to hiss in the darkness, drawn by the scent of the shifting emotions and the rising madness of the men who claimed to be heroes.

The gray wasteland was cold, but the atmosphere within the group was even more chilling.

After the chaotic reunion, Han Ruyan finally pulled back from Lin En. His silver hair was disheveled, and his expression was disgruntled. As he straightened his collar, his sharp eyes suddenly fell upon the Masked Man in black combat gear.

Yue Yue, watching from a distance, noticed something that made her skin prickle. Han Ruyan didn’t look confused or curious. He stiffened. His jaw tightened, and a flicker of recognition, or perhaps fear, crossed his face before he quickly masked it.

He knows him? Yue Yue thought, her heart skipping a beat. Lin En said she had just met this masked man here in the wasteland. But Han Ruyan clearly recognizes him. Are they all lying to me?

Han Ruyan’s piercing gaze then shifted to Lu Huoyan. The red haired lion man only waved back with a clueless, friendly grin, but Han Ruyan looked like he wanted to commit murder right there. Finally, his eyes landed on Yue Yue.

She froze like a pine tree in a storm, but Han Ruyan only looked her up and down once, coldly and briefly, before removing his gaze. He didn’t sneer. He didn’t reach for her. He simply looked away as if she were unimportant.

Yue Yue let out a long, shaky breath. He really doesn’t care about me anymore. Now that he has Lin En, he’s finally left me alone.

As they reached a relatively sheltered area behind a cluster of collapsed pillars, Lin En skipped lightly over to Lu Huoyan, grabbing his muscular arm.

"Brother Lu, I’m so hungry! Let’s eat," she quipped with a sweet, girlish giggle.

The men didn’t argue. Everyone sat down to prepare a meal. Yue Yue expected them to pull out more nutritional tubes, but to her shock, Lin En began pulling out real ingredients, fresh vegetables and marinated meat, from her high grade spatial ring.

"I want to eat a good meal," Lin En announced, tossing her hair. "I can’t stomach that nutritional solution anymore. It’s for commoners."

Han Ruyan, despite his obvious anger and jealousy, immediately got to work. He started a fire and began cooking for her with expert movements. He looked less like a demonic prince and more like a devoted servant.

Lin En only gave him a single, approving glance before turning her attention back to Lu Huoyan, trying to gain his favor while he scouted the perimeter.

At a distance, the Masked Man sat alone on a rock. He didn’t look at the food. He didn’t look at the people. He gazed out in the opposite direction, silent and still as a gargoyle.

Yue Yue sat "stupidly" a few feet away from the fire. She was hungry, and the smell of the meat was torturous, but she felt far too distracted and exhausted to cook for herself. She reached for a tube of gray nutritional slime, her expression miserable.

Suddenly, a shadow fell over her.

"Why not try this?"

Yue Yue nearly jumped out of her skin. She looked up to see Han Ruyan holding a plate of steaming, perfectly cooked meat. His expression was polite.

"Don’t drink that slime," he said quietly. "It does not taste good."

Yue Yue shuddered, scooting away on her stone. "No, no! I’m fine! I... I like the nutritional solution! I like it very much!"

Han Ruyan realized he had been too forward. He saw her looking at him like he was a monster about to bite her. He sighed, placing the plate on the ground between them before taking a few steps back to give her space.

He glanced at Lin En, who was busy laughing at something Lu Huoyan said.

A flash of deep sorrow appeared in Han Ruyan’s violet eyes. Then, he looked back at Yue Yue and lowered his head.

"I’m sorry," he whispered.

Yue Yue blinked, a giant question mark practically hovering over her head. "What?"

"I’m sorry for everything I did in the past," Han Ruyan said, forcing an awkward, self deprecating laugh. "I was a lunatic. I was blinded by a desire for power that I could never compare to my elder brother. I tried to take things that didn’t belong to me."

He looked at her with a gentle, sad smile that looked completely wrong on his face. "But at the end of the day, he is my elder brother. And you... you are my elder brother’s wife."

Yue Yue’s eyes widened so much they looked like blue gemstones about to pop out of her skull.

"You are my sister in law," Han Ruyan continued.

"My brother isn’t here to protect you in this mess, so I should be the one to do it. Don’t look at me like that. I have no ill intentions toward you. I have Lin En now."
