Chapter 269: Chapter 269: A Vision
"You are the one," he said quietly. His voice carried heavy emotion.
"Our Phoenix clan has always been loyal to their mate. We only have one mate. Not just in this life, but in all lives."
His hand gently held hers. His thumb brushed over her fingers.
"There are countless lifetimes where we cannot find them. Lifetimes where we live alone, searching and waiting."
His voice dropped lower.
"But in this lifetime... I found you."
Yue Yue’s breath slowed. She could feel the weight of his words deep in her heart.
Feng Yanshen lifted his hand and gently touched her cheek.
"My heart has always been waiting for you."
Yue Yue did not speak. She just looked at him, her eyes calm but full of feeling.
Feng Yanshen let out a small breath before continuing in a more serious tone.
"What we just did is not a normal marriage. This ritual is only used by true mates of the Phoenix clan. It binds not just the body but the soul."
Yue Yue’s eyes widened slightly. She finally looked around the temple properly. The glowing symbols, the ancient pillars, the lingering energy in the air...everything felt sacred and powerful.
Feng Yanshen noticed her expression and gave a small smile.
"It means even if we are reborn, even if we forget everything, our souls will still find each other."
Yue Yue felt her heart tremble again. There was no exaggeration in his words. Only truth.
She lowered her gaze to their joined hands. Even though the golden thread had disappeared, she could still feel the connection. That warmth was still there, deep inside her.
Feng Yanshen stepped closer and gently lifted her chin so she would look at him again.
"So you cannot regret it now," he said softly. There was a faint teasing tone in his voice, but his eyes remained serious.
Yue Yue looked at him for a second, then shook her head slightly.
"I won’t," she said quietly.
Her answer was simple, but it was enough.
Feng Yanshen’s smile deepened. He leaned down and pressed a gentle kiss on her forehead.
"Good," he murmured.
For a long moment, they stood there holding each other in silence. The temple was quiet again, but the bond between them felt unbreakable.
Then Feng Yanshen raised his hand once more. The air around them shifted slightly. The glowing symbols beneath their feet lit up again.
Yue Yue blinked in surprise.
Before she could ask anything, soft light surrounded them.
In just a moment, they were back in their room in the Sea Palace.
Everything looked the same...the bed, the walls, the quiet space. As if nothing had happened.
But both of them knew everything had changed.
Feng Yanshen looked at Yue Yue quietly. His eyes were soft and filled with warmth. For a moment, everything felt peaceful again. It was as if nothing outside their small world could touch them.
But then something in his expression changed.
It was subtle at first, but Yue Yue noticed it immediately. The warmth in his eyes dimmed. It was replaced by something heavier. Something that did not belong to this moment.
Yue Yue’s heart tightened. That look again. The same lingering heaviness she had seen before...the same sadness.
Her hand slowly lifted and touched his cheek. Her fingers were soft against his skin.
"Yanshen..." she called gently, her voice full of concern. "What happened? Why are you looking so sad?"
Feng Yanshen did not answer immediately. He only looked at her.
His gaze was deep. It made Yue Yue feel uneasy. There was love in it, but also something else...maybe longing. A painful kind of longing. Like he was already missing her even though she was right in front of him.
He took a slow breath, as if trying to gather his thoughts. His lips parted slightly, but no words came out at first.
For the first time, Feng Yanshen looked unsure. Like he did not know how to say what he was about to say.
Yue Yue’s fingers tightened slightly against his cheek.
"Yanshen..." she called again, softer this time.
Feng Yanshen finally closed his eyes for a second, then opened them again. And this time he spoke.
"Yue..." his voice was low, almost a whisper.
"In just a few moments... we will all be separated."
Yue Yue froze. Her mind went blank. For a second she thought she had heard wrong.
"...What?" she asked, her voice barely steady.
Her eyes widened as she stared at him, trying to understand.
"What are you saying?" she continued quickly. "Why would we be separated? Why?"
Her questions came one after another, filled with confusion and disbelief.
Everything was fine. They were all together. So why would something like that happen?
Feng Yanshen looked at her. His eyes were heavy.
"I had a vision," he said quietly.
Those three words were enough to make Yue Yue stiffen completely in his arms. Her fingers trembled slightly. She knew what that meant.
As the High Priest, Feng Yanshen could see fragments of the future. Not always clear. Not always certain. But enough to warn them.
Her eyes searched his face, looking for any sign that this was a mistake. But there was none.
Feng Yanshen took another deep breath before continuing.
"In the vision..." he said slowly, "you... me... Cang Yuze... Xing Luoye... Han Soi..."
His voice grew heavier with each name. "...everyone... was in a different place."
Yue Yue’s heart dropped.
"We were all searching for you," he continued, his gaze never leaving hers.
"But you were nowhere to be found."
The room suddenly felt too quite. Yue Yue could hear her own heartbeat.
"...No..." she whispered, shaking her head slightly. " What are you saying..." Her voice broke a little.
Feng Yanshen’s expression tightened.
"I don’t know when it will happen," he said. "But... I can feel it."
"...It will be soon."
Yue Yue felt like something was pressing against her chest, making it hard to breathe. ƒrēewebnovel.com
She knew his ability. She knew he could not control when those visions came or how accurate they were.
But looking at his face now at the pain in his eyes, she understood. Her hands slowly moved, gripping his clothes tightly.
"...No," she said again, but this time her voice was softer.
"Don’t say that..."
She stepped closer and wrapped her arms around him tightly, pressing her head against his chest.
His heartbeat was fast just like hers.
"We’ll stay together," she said, her voice muffled against him. "We won’t separate. Nothing will separate us."
Her words sounded firm. But deep inside there was fear.
Feng Yanshen immediately wrapped his arms around her, pulling her closer.
His hand moved to her head, gently stroking her hair. His touch was soft. Almost like he was trying to memorize this moment.
If possible, he did not want to let her go.
Not even for a second.
If possible, he wanted to hold her like this forever. But he knew. Anything he saw in a vision would happen...sooner or later.
His arms tightened slightly around her. His heart clenched painfully. Because in that vision he had seen himself.
He had seen what he would become. Desperate, restless, and almost losing control.
Searching for her like someone who had lost everything.
And the worst part, he could not even find her.
His fingers trembled slightly as they rested on her back. He closed his eyes.
