Chapter 19: Chapter 19: Please! Don’t kill us!

The long, narrow tunnel lift rose floor by floor, its walls glowing with faint blue light. Two men in black uniforms stood stiffly inside, their hands clasped behind their backs, trying to appear calm even though both of their hearts were beating far too fast.

They were the same men who had delivered Yue Yue, the fragile F grade female, to the Winged Serpent heir. They didn’t know what happened after that. But after one whole week away, they had been ordered back immediately to check the heir’s condition.

One of the men leaned towards the other and whispered nervously, "Do you... think that F grade female is alive or dead?"

The other man snorted without hesitation. "Dead, obviously. Who on earth survives being thrown in front of him? I’m a hundred percent sure the heir killed her on the spot."

He shook his head angrily the more he thought about it. "I don’t know what the Winged Serpent clan is thinking. Using a weak female to appease the heir? Even an A class female can barely stay near him without fainting. How could a mere F class survive? Impossible. If the empire finds out they sacrificed a female like that, even if she was the lowest grade, they’ll definitely create trouble. After all... female is still female."

But before he could continue rambling, the other man turned sharply, his voice low and firm. "Shut your mouth. Don’t ever speak nonsense like that outside. Don’t forget who we serve. We are loyal servants of the Winged Serpent clan. We breathe for them. We die for them."

The talkative man stiffened immediately. His face paled, and he swallowed his loose tongue. "Right... I’ll never talk about it again." He straightened, suddenly feeling like every word he had spoken could have been a death sentence.

Silence remain heavy for a moment until the first man finally let out a sigh. "Anyway... we have to check him. Whether the heir has snapped out of his daze or whether his condition has gotten worse again."

The talkative one groaned out loud. "Why us? Couldn’t they send someone of a higher grade? We’re just B level orcs. If he appears in front of us, he’ll tear us apart before we even blink."

"Then die," the other said flatly. "We were the ones assigned to monitor him. It’s our job... even if the price is our life."

The talkative one grumbled, but he didn’t say another word. He couldn’t. He already knew the truth. They were the two unlucky souls chosen for this task, and there was no backing out of it.

The lift continued rising. 12th floor... 14th... 17th...

Their throats tightened as the glowing numbers changed.

Finally, the lift slowed and stopped at the 19th floor, the place where they had originally dumped Yue Yue.

The doors slid open.

Both men leaned forward nervously.

"...Nothing," one whispered.

There was no blood or broken bones. Nothing at all. Not even the smallest sign of a struggle.

"It... seems the heir took her away," one muttered slowly. "At least she wasn’t killed by a polluted beast. There’s not even a blood mark."

They both looked at each other, finally sighing because if the Winged Serpent clan found out they had just dumped the female here, they would surely be finished.

It was also one of the reasons they couldn’t sleep for an entire week, afraid that someone would find out about this.

But it seems now they are finally safe. They pressed the button again, sending the lift up to the 20th floor, the highest, most forbidden level.

The floor number glowed a deep, unsettling red.

Both men instantly felt their legs weaken.

"Should we... really go?" the talkative man whispered, almost crying.

"We have to," the other replied, although his voice was far from steady. "If he finds out we didn’t complete the task, we’ll die anyway."

They nodded at each other, though both wanted to run away as far as possible. In their hearts, they prayed with all their strength:

Please... please don’t let the heir be near the entrance. Please let him be far away... maybe sleeping... or hunting polluted beasts... or meditating... anywhere but in front of us...

The lift finally stopped with a soft ding.

The doors opened.

And the very first thing they saw... were deep purple eyes like an abyss staring directly at them.

Eyes filled with the pressure of a storm strong enough to crush their souls.

The two men froze. Their lungs refused to work for a moment.

Then both of them screamed at the same time:

"The heir is here...master is here."

Their screams echoed through the entire 20th floor as if they were announcing their own death.

"Why is Master right in front of us? We’re dead, we’re completely dead."

Han Soi stood silently, his aura sharp enough to make the air feel heavy. The two B level orcs, terrified beyond reason, instantly dropped to their knees so fast they almost broke them.

"I didn’t say anything bad about you, master," the talkative one cried, already offering his life.

"Please have mercy. We are just lowly servants," the other shouted, forehead hitting the floor.

In their panic, tears actually started to gather in the talkative one’s eyes as he continued babbling:

"Master, if you want to kill me, please just make it quick. Don’t rip my bones one by one. I beg you."

"Shut up," the other hissed at him, but he was shaking just as hard.

Both of them were so terrified, so ready to die, so convinced the heir was still in a raging spiritual frenzy... that neither noticed the most important thing.

Han Soi’s eyes were not red. They were perfectly normal. Calm and clear without any sign of spiritual riot.

He just stared at them silently while the two grown men trembled so violently they almost rattled the floor.

Finally, Han Soi lifted a brow.

"...Why are you shouting?"

Both men froze. Very slowly, they raised their heads and stared at him like he had grown two devil’s horns.

Then they screamed again, this time out of pure confusion:

"His eyes are normal. He’s out of his spiritual riot."

Han Soi simply stared at them like they were two idiots, and there was only one thought in his mind: who the hell sent these two incompetent idiots?

One servant slapped the other’s shoulder. "You idiot. We screamed for nothing." free𝑤ebnovel.com

"You screamed too," the other yelled back.

Meanwhile, Han Soi’s expression darkened dangerously.

Their mouths shut instantly.

They fell silent in one breath, kneeling like stiff statues, praying he didn’t take back his mercy.

And now because of their stupid screaming, they have most definitely infuriated the elder master. They are doomed.

Both men stayed on the floor for a long moment, not daring to breathe. When they finally gathered the courage to look up again, their hearts were already preparing to accept death. They wanted to see how angry the master was... how dark his expression had become... how quickly he would kill them.

But the moment their eyes lifted, both of them froze again.

Because instead of hearing the master’s enraged roar... they heard a shocked female voice echo from behind him.

"Are they already here?"

Both men jerked in place. Their heads snapped toward the source of the voice so fast their necks almost cracked. And when they saw who was walking towards them, their souls nearly left their bodies.

A female, an alive one.

It was her. The same fragile F grade female they had thrown away on the 19th floor.

She was walking calmly, her soft hair falling over her shoulders, her eyes wide with surprise as she looked at the two kneeling men. She looked perfectly fine without any injuries.

Both men stared at her like she was some kind of ghost.

But the thing that shocked them even more was not her appearance.

It was the master.

Han Soi, who had been glaring at them like he wanted to chew them alive, suddenly turned soft the moment he heard her voice. His entire terrifying aura evaporated instantly. The man who could crush souls with a glare actually softened his expression.

He tilted his head slightly toward her and let out a low hum.

"...Mm."

Just that one soft sound made the two B level orcs almost faint on the spot.
