Chapter 161: Chapter 161: A Midnight Invitation

Yue Yue realized that after her questions, the atmosphere inside the kitchen had become a bit somber. So she quickly clapped her hands once and forced a bright smile.

"Alright, let’s not talk about the past," she said. "Let’s eat first."

She picked up a warm steamed bun from the basket. The soft smell of fresh dough filled the air. She walked over to the old caretaker and gently held the bun toward her mouth.

"Here, try it," Yue Yue said in a cheerful tone. "My mother always said I was good at cooking... and lazy at everything else."

She chuckled softly.

The old caretaker looked surprised, but she still opened her mouth and took a bite.

The moment she chewed, her eyes suddenly widened.

"Oh my God," she said, her voice full of shock. "This is the most delicious thing I have ever eaten!"

She quickly took another bite.

"Your mother must be an amazing woman to teach you so many good things," the old caretaker continued. "I have never seen a young lady cook ancient food this well."

Yue Yue only smiled and scratched her cheek awkwardly.

She did not dare to tell the old woman that in her original world, cooking like this was very normal.

Still, she felt relieved that the old caretaker liked her food.

Soon, the two women sat together in the kitchen. They slowly ate two buns each, chatting lightly as the heavy mood from earlier slowly faded away.

After eating, Yue Yue decided to go back to her room.

"I’ll go back to my room first," she said.

The old caretaker nodded and smiled. "You should stay and eat dinner with everyone later."

Yue Yue shook her head. "No need. I’ll just eat this and sleep early. You can serve dinner when Xing Luoye and Xing Luoguang come back."

The old caretaker nodded again. "Alright, young lady. If you are tired, you should rest early. Go change your clothes. I will bring the food to your room."

Yue Yue gave her a small nod. Not long after, the old caretaker brought the food to her room.

Yue Yue ate quietly by herself. The warm food made her body feel relaxed, and her eyelids soon grew heavy.

She lay down on the bed.

Before she even realized it, she had already fallen asleep.

She did not know when Xing Luoye or Xing Luoguang came back... or whether they had eaten the food she had made.

Yue Yue was sleeping very soundly.

The room was quiet, and the night was deep.

Suddenly, in the middle of the night, she felt a piercing stare on her face. It was so strong that it made her uncomfortable.

She tried to ignore it at first and turned her face to the side. But the feeling did not go away. It only became stronger.

Her brows frowned. Slowly, she opened her eyes.

The moment she did, she almost screamed.

There was a dark shadow standing right beside her bed.

Before any sound could leave her mouth, a hand suddenly covered her lips. Her eyes widened in shock.

In front of her was a tall man. His cyan blue eyes were staring at her in the darkness.

But she could not tell who he was.

Xing Luoguang and Xing Luoye both had very similar features. In the dim light, she could not tell which brother this was.

But what the hell was he doing in her room in the middle of the night?

He had almost scared her soul out of her body.

Yue Yue lightly pushed against his chest. The man seemed to understand and slowly removed his hand.

"What are you doing here?" she whispered.

The man looked at her quietly.

His eyes briefly moved downward. He noticed how her sleeping nightgown had slipped from her shoulder, exposing her smooth skin.

But he quickly lifted his gaze back to her face.

"I heard you wanted to explore the city," he said softly. "Do you want to go? I can take you there."

Yue Yue was stunned. Now that she heard his voice clearly, she realized it was Xing Luoguang.

"It’s the middle of the night," she said. "Why are you taking me out now? Can’t we go tomorrow?"

Xing Luoguang chuckled softly.

"The city looks the most beautiful at night," he said. "You won’t regret it."

Yue Yue hesitated for a moment, then her eyes lit up.

"Then let’s go," she said quickly. "I really wanted to go outside."

She immediately got out of bed and went to change her clothes.

Soon, she came back wearing a long robe. It was one of the clothes in her wardrobe. After all, she did not have her own clothes here. The wardrobe was filled with many robes meant for young ladies of this place.

So she simply picked one and wore it.

Xing Luoguang watched her quietly.

The robe she was wearing looked very similar to his own. The colors and patterns matched well.

For a moment, his ears turned slightly red.

He quickly shook his head, realizing it must have been the old caretaker who had filled her wardrobe.

But then he frowned.

"You can’t go out like this," he said.

He took out a long scarf and gently wrapped it around her lower face, covering her nose and mouth. Then he pulled the hood of her robe over her head.

"Now it’s better," he said.

He also pulled up his own hood. Before Yue Yue could react, he suddenly took her hand. His other arm wrapped around her waist.

"Let’s go."

Yue Yue blinked in confusion. "Wait, how are we..."

Before she could finish her sentence, her feet suddenly left the ground.

Xing Luoguang jumped down from the balcony with her in his arms.

Yue Yue was so frightened that she immediately grabbed the front of his robe tightly. She buried her face against his chest and did not dare to open her eyes.

What the hell was he even doing?

The wind brushed past them, but it did not feel like falling. It felt more like they were flying smoothly through the air.

After a short while, they finally landed. freёwebnoѵel.com

Yue Yue slowly opened her eyes. She found herself standing in the middle of the city.

Tall golden structures surrounded them from all sides. The buildings looked grand and beautiful under the moonlight.

She could not even understand how they had traveled here so easily.

She had not felt any free fall at all.

It was as if they had simply flown through the night. But she had kept her eyes closed the whole time and missed everything.

She also did not see the gentle look in Xing Luoguang’s eyes... as he had watched her quietly in his arms.
