Chapter 358: Vomiting won’t kill me
By the time Lian arrived, Vincent was still vomiting.
There was nothing left in his stomach to bring up, yet the nausea remained relentless.
Every wave of retching seemed determined to tear him apart from the inside.
The moment Xarion saw Lian enter, he immediately grabbed him and dragged him into the bathroom.
"Hurry and take a look at Vincent."
His voice was filled with concern.
"Why is he vomiting so badly?"
Lian stepped forward.
Seeing Vincent’s miserable state, he frowned slightly.
"Has he eaten anything?"
Xarion shook his head.
"Almost nothing. He’s barely touched any food since this morning."
Lian reached out and took Vincent’s wrist.
A stream of gentle energy flowed from his fingertips into Vincent’s body.
Within moments, the symptoms eased somewhat.
The dry heaving finally stopped.
Xarion quickly brought over a glass of water and helped Vincent rinse his mouth.
"Thank you."
After rinsing away the bitter taste, Vincent braced himself against the wall and slowly rose to his feet.
Both Xarion and Lian moved instinctively to support him.
He stopped them with a slight shake of his head.
"I can manage."
Leaning against the wall for support, he slowly made his way out of the bathroom.
As he walked, he turned to Lian.
"How long is this going to last?"
Lian shook his head.
"That’s difficult to predict."
His expression remained thoughtful.
"Some females experience this kind of pregnancy sickness all the way until the baby is born. Others recover after only a few days."
He paused.
"As for how long your symptoms will continue, I honestly can’t say."
After all, Rory was different from ordinary females of the interstellar races.
Her situation could not be measured by standard medical expectations.
Xarion looked toward Lian.
"Then why did Vincent suddenly get so much worse?"
His brows knitted together.
"He already took the medicine you prepared."
A trace of sympathy appeared in Lian’s eyes as he glanced at Vincent.
"If my guess is correct, Rory is eating right now."
Xarion blinked.
"What does that have to do with it?"
Lian sighed softly.
"For many females, the nausea becomes most severe after eating."
His gaze shifted back to Vincent.
"So..."
Xarion’s eyes widened.
"So every time Female Master eats, Vincent is going to start vomiting?"
The realization hit him instantly.
For the first time, he genuinely felt sorry for Vincent.
Vincent had already collapsed onto the bed.
Hearing their conversation, he spoke weakly. freёwebnovel.com
"It’s fine."
His voice was faint.
"It’s only vomiting."
A small smile tugged at his lips.
"It won’t kill me."
Then his expression turned serious.
"Don’t tell Rory about this."
He lowered his gaze.
"If she finds out, she’ll worry."
Worse, he knew exactly what kind of person she was.
She might start eating less just to spare him the discomfort.
But she was carrying a baby now.
This was precisely when she needed more energy and nutrition.
She could not afford to hold herself back from eating.
Xarion glanced at him.
"Relax."
His answer came immediately.
"Even if you hadn’t said anything, I’d do the same."
He folded his arms.
"No matter how much you vomit, you’re not going to die."
His voice grew firmer.
"But Female Master not eating properly? That’s unacceptable."
Lian chuckled softly.
"Don’t worry."
He retrieved another vial from his storage ring.
"I’m not the type to spread things around."
Walking over, he handed the medicine to Vincent.
"Drink this as well."
"It should make things a little easier."
Then he added,
"And remember to eat something later. If you can’t manage real food, at least drink a nutrient supplement."
He still needed to return and check on Polly’s condition.
He could not stay here indefinitely.
Xarion looked toward Vincent.
"What do you want to eat? I can ask Nix or Jasper to prepare something."
His own cooking skills were nowhere near theirs.
Besides, he needed to stay here and keep an eye on Vincent.
Vincent had no appetite whatsoever.
Food sounded unbearable.
Even nutrient supplements were unappealing.
After a moment’s thought, he looked at Xarion.
"Do you have any fruit? Just give me a couple of pieces of fruit."
Xarion answered instantly.
"No."
His response came so fast it was almost reflexive.
He hated fruit.
Still, seeing how miserable Vincent looked, he reconsidered.
"Nix probably has some."
He pulled out his communicator.
"I’ll ask him."
A moment later, he sent a message.
Xarion: Nix, do you have any fruit? Vincent wants some.
Aside from Aren, Nix was the biggest fruit lover in the entire household.
Having just finished eating and begun cleaning up, Nix immediately saw the message.
His reply arrived almost at once.
Nix: I do. I’ll bring some over right away.
Nix had plenty of fruit on hand.
He had just given Rory quite a lot of it earlier.
Ever since becoming pregnant, Rory had developed a healthy appetite. Not only did she crave meat, but she had also started enjoying fruit much more than before.
Xarion: It’s not for me. Vincent wants it.
He made a point of emphasizing that.
Nix ignored the clarification.
As far as he was concerned, Vincent and Xarion were together anyway. Whoever ate the fruit made little difference.
After replying, Nix tossed the items he had been carrying to Yuel and headed straight toward Vincent’s room with a bag of fruit.
As he arrived outside the room, he happened to run into Lian, who was just coming out.
"Lian, you’re here to check on Vincent?"
Nix greeted him warmly with a friendly smile.
Whether Rory would eventually accept Lian as a partner or not, the man had been helping their family. That alone deserved courtesy.
"Yes."
Lian nodded with a gentle smile.
"You’re here to bring fruit to Vincent, aren’t you?"
"That’s right."
Nix reached into his storage ring, pulled out a large bag of fruit, and offered it to him.
"Want some? I’ve got plenty. You can take a few."
"Thank you."
Lian accepted without hesitation.
After storing the fruit inside his ring, he smiled.
"I can’t very well eat your fruit for free."
"I heard your laboratory is recruiting top-tier mech designers and starship engineers. Is that right?"
"It is."
Nix nodded, looking somewhat discouraged.
"Unfortunately, plenty of applicants have come, but almost none meet my standards."
Lian chuckled softly.
"I happen to know someone who might interest you."
The moment those words left his mouth, Nix’s eyes lit up.
His entire demeanor instantly became serious.
"Really? What level are we talking about?"
Someone known personally by Lian, Vincent, Yuel, and even Vangar was unlikely to be ordinary.
"It’s my cousin."
Lian’s smile deepened.
"He can independently design and build Rank Ten large-scale mechs."
"Would that qualify?"
"Of course, he’s nowhere near your level."
Within the entire interstellar world, no one could rival Nix when it came to mech engineering.
Still, Nix nearly jumped with excitement.
"Someone who can independently build Rank Ten large-scale mechs is absolutely top-tier talent."
His eyes practically sparkled.
"Where is your cousin right now? Would he be willing to join my team? If he is, when can he come for an interview?"
"You don’t have to worry about compensation. As long as his abilities are real, I’ll give him the highest reward possible."
The reason Nix was so desperate to recruit wasn’t difficult to understand.
First, the workload had become overwhelming.
Second, he wanted to delegate more of the research and production work to others so he could spend more time with Rory.
"I’ll contact him as soon as I get back."
Lian nodded.
"I’ll ask whether he’s interested. He’s actually a huge fan of yours. If he learns he’d be working for you, he’ll probably be thrilled."
Nix immediately grabbed Lian’s hand.
"Lian, if your cousin joins my team, I’ll definitely owe you one."
His smile was bright and sincere.
Who would have thought Lian was such a good person?
Honestly, becoming brothers with someone like him didn’t sound bad at all.
"Nix, what are you two doing out here?"
After finishing her meal, Rory had decided to come check on Vincent.
The moment she stepped out of the room, she spotted Nix enthusiastically gripping Lian’s hand. freёwebnovel.com
"Rory."
Nix immediately released Lian and turned toward her with excitement.
"Remember how I told you my studio has been recruiting? It hasn’t been going very well. Lian just told me he knows a top-tier specialist."
"Really?"
Jasper, who had come out with Rory, glanced toward Lian after hearing that.
He looked at Nix and said meaningfully,
"Then you’d better thank Young Master Lian properly."
"Of course."
Nix nodded seriously.
"If his cousin comes, I’ll definitely thank him."
"Rory."
Lian stepped forward and extended his hand toward her.
"I came to check on Vincent. Since I’ve run into you here, there’s no need for me to find you later."
His voice remained as gentle as ever.
"Give me your hand. I’ll transfer some more energy to you. After today’s treatment, your condition should be completely stabilized."
