Chapter 37: An Immortal Wyrm?

His attention shifted toward the familiar wheel floating before him.

The cooldown had finally ended. Lucien rubbed his hands together, praying for something good. "Please don’t be trash."

And with a thought, he spun it.

The wheel began rotating rapidly, colors flashing before his eyes in vivid streaks, white representing common, violet representing rare, and golden representing Legendary tier rewards.

The sections blurred together as the wheel accelerated before gradually slowing down until it finally came to a stop.

Lucien unconsciously leaned forward, his breath stuck in his throat.

[Ding!]

Golden light exploded from the wheel, filling the room.

[Congratulations. You have obtained a Legendary-tier reward—

●Egg of an Immortal Wyrm.]

Lucien stiffened, then blinked. His previous disappointment from obtaining several mediocre rewards over the past few spins vanished entirely.

The first Legendary reward he had ever obtained had granted him an SSS-grade talent, a reward that had fundamentally changed his future. The chances of getting another Legendary were already ridiculously low, but not impossible to obtain.

It was his second legendary-tier reward.

Silence filled the room as Lucien stared at the words, then reread them.

"...What?"

An Immortal Wyrm? What was that? He didn’t know, not even from any fiction he had ever read.

The description window opened before him without waiting for his permission, dispersing all his doubts without being told to.

[Egg of an Immortal Wyrm. A unique lifeform born from the mating of a dragon and a phoenix’s bloodlines.]

[Dominant Bloodline: Dragon]

[Status: Unhatched]

Lucien stared at the description for several seconds before he finally said something.

"You’ve got to be kidding me."

Curiosity won over disbelief quickly. And hence, he summoned the reward with a single thought.

A massive crimson egg appeared in front of him, forcing the bed to creak beneath its weight, it was probably half his own weight.

The shell wasn’t smooth like any egg he had ever seen, for crimson scales covered its surface, overlapping one another like armor fitted onto something ancient as thin, golden strips flowed between them, resembling molten rivers that had been frozen solid.

Before he could even comment on it, another notification appeared in his vision.

[Compatible target detected. Beast Contract may be established.]

He looked at the screen, and a small twitch crossed his lips.

"...Of course."

The Beast Contract required blood.

It was simple, efficient, and apparently applicable to any species, even cross-breeds.

Without wasting time, Lucien bit his finger which stung slightly, and let a droplet of blood fall onto the crimson shell.

For a brief moment, nothing happened.

Then the golden markings lit up one after another, and the room was bathed in golden radiance the next moment, causing Lucien to instinctively narrow his eyes against it.

A strange sensation emerged.

It wasn’t from his body, nor from his mind, but from somewhere deeper.

His soul.

The feeling was difficult to describe and yet undeniably real despite being faint like an invisible thread had appeared within darkness, one end attached within him while the other end connected to the creature sleeping inside the shell.

The sensation was warm and alive, carrying something that felt impossibly ancient and dominant despite the egg’s small size.

And it lingered for several seconds before stabilizing.

[Beast Contract Established.]

[Contract Target: Immortal Wyrm]

[Current Status: Unhatched]

Lucien stared at the notification and realized there was something he had overlooked in his moment of joy.

He rubbed his forehead and turned toward the system interface. "How long until it hatches? Will it take days, weeks, or even months?"

As expected, the system offered no reply.

"Every time I actually need information and you decide to play dead." Lucien sighed and looked back at the egg.

The golden patterns had already dimmed, yet the connection remained stable enough for him not to panic.

For the first time since receiving the system, he found himself genuinely uncertain about what to do next with a reward.

Can I check its status?

"Status."

A translucent screen appeared.

---

[Contracted Beast.]

Name: Unnamed.

Species: Immortal Wyrm(The first of its kind).

Status: Unhatched.

Age: 0.

Bloodline Rank: ??? Talent: ??? Element Affinity: ??? Innate Skills: ???]

---

Almost everything important was hidden behind question marks. The only information accessible was that it was the first of its kind, meaning no other Immortal Wyrm existed before it.

"Will the details be visible after it hatches?"

Slowly, he reached out and placed a hand against the crimson shell which felt surprisingly warm beneath his fingers, almost like he was touching a human baby.

Ok... that sounded a little weird.

Nothing happened for several seconds, but just as he was about to remove his hands in disappointment, the connection stirred to life.

Lucien went still as a faint sensation traveled through the bond.

It was warmth and comfort.

Though the feeling vanished almost immediately, its presence was unmistakable.

"...Was that you?"

No answer came, and yet another emotion drifted across the bond a moment later.

Sleepiness.

Until now, the egg had simply been a reward. A legendary prize, something that could tip the scales, or even break it when things grew desperate. But the emotions he had just felt reminded him of a fact he hadn’t considered.

The fact that there was a living creature inside, one that already trusted him completely despite having never seen his face.

The realization left him unexpectedly quiet.

Lucien lightly brushed his fingers against the shell and the emotions gradually faded, the unborn dragon drifting back into sleep.

Lucien released a slow breath. "You’re actually alive." freeωebnovēl.c૦m

But the question is, where did the system even obtain this egg from?

Well, he would probably never know the answer to that.

With a thought, he returned inside his soul.

Yes, his soul space.

The moment it disappeared, the room felt strangely empty. He had possessed the thing for less than ten minutes and was already getting attached. That was either a good sign or a deeply concerning one, and he wasn’t sure which.

I can store the egg and the creature itself in my soul, thanks to the contract beast scroll.

His thoughts wandered on their own, pulling him to the last battle he had.

About wind blades that were capable of destroying concrete, walls, and even humans themselves.

His injury on the left side of his abdomen, which still ached was a reminder of that clash. Standing opposite him was a man proclaiming himself as the king of the wind.

Roman.

Lucien’s smile widened without him meaning it to.

That battle had nearly killed him. If he were being honest, Roman had nearly won outright despite using the overclock serum, reminding him of the fact that he wasn’t the only one with overpowered trump cards like that.

Had the Vermillion Sky Roc not descended and interrupted their fight, maybe that might’ve been the end.

The memory should have left behind resentment, or at least caution against such a man.

But surprisingly, it didn’t. Not for him.

His smile slowly turned into a grin as he mumbled to himself, "I can’t wait to meet you again, Roman."
