Chapter 37: Write a Novel
Kael looked at William. He could understand him to a good extent. William was upright and the type of man that stood for what he believed was right. It was a good attribute; it would get him killed.
Kael had read enough of these stories to know that the person who is upright and filled with a sense of justice is an enemy to everyone. William was that exact type of person. He might not last long.
"I understand that trusting me is a lot to ask, and being here is already you pushing yourself. I’m grateful that you chose to come back, because this way less lives will be taken in this break," Kael stated.
"You speak as though you care for human life so much," Violet pointed out. She had noticed it before but never really spoke on it.
"I do not know if the right word for what I have is care. I have watched humans get mauled and eaten right inside these very walls. I have heard screams that would cause the heart of even the strong to tremble.
I never tried to save all of them. Even if I wanted to, I could not. Death comes to us all. What I’m trying to say is, what I’m doing is not for the humans per se, but rather me trying to soothe my mind and not feel entirely like a bad person." He waited for his words to sink into their minds.
"I am not a good person, neither do I really care for the people I save or help, but I think it calms a part of me that makes me feel good.
It’s hard to be a mind inside a dungeon that takes lives every day, and that’s why I do it, for that feeling of doing something good and for the thanks that comes after.
I know it might be shallow and a very selfish reason to want to do—"
"No, it’s not," William cut him short. "If anything, it’s a good reason. I don’t understand what it possibly feels like to exist inside a dungeon and watch those horrors happen, the feeling of blame that stays with you and more.
I’ll not judge you, I’ll not attack you for what you do. Even if I want for this to not happen, it is happening, so let’s leave all the feelings aside. Tell us what to do to make the brunt less."
’Hmm, that worked? Tch, am I a good person at all? I feel like I manipulated him with that story.
A good part of it is true though, the feeling of being good is what keeps me, else I would have run mad.’
"I plan to attack the front of the town, so if possible, take everyone that needs to be protected right to the back of the town. That way they are far from the attack.
If the monsters manage to breach the front, I’ll have them separate into the wings, keeping them as far away as possible from the back of the town, as that way you can chase them down and have your fights with them.
I’ll be sending five hundred monsters from the first five floors in total. You’ll be dealing with a lot of floor four and five monsters as well."
"Floor four and five have terrific monsters," William said.
"If we are ready for them, it will be easy to stop them," Violet said.
"I guess that is true," William said with his hands under his chin. Then he looked up. "Is that all?"
"Yes, that’s the plan of attack. I would suggest you take your defense and start at the town. Do not try to attack in the forest, the monsters of the dungeon thrive in natural environments," Kael said. ƒreewebɳovel.com
’There is really nothing like that. I just need them to carry out the twenty percent damage before you kill them all. I can’t take the risk of you guys killing them all in the forest.’
"I see, then that’s what we will do. I’ll make sure everything is set up," William agreed.
"So that’s good then. Thank you, Dungeon Sir," Violet said.
"Kael, the name is Kael."
"Oh? That’s a really nice name," Violet said with a smile.
They spoke a little about the details after that and then they left. Time was running out and they needed to work fast.
"Aiding humans against your own monsters, that’s pretty wild," Lilith said as she walked into the chamber that they had just left.
"Sigh, I can’t win either way, can I?" he asked.
"You wanting to have morals as a dungeon is the first sign of loss. The more you chase that dream of morality, the more you actually lose it.
Right now you are willing to risk your monsters for the humans, but you are still going to kill humans, which means you are now an enemy to both sides because you tried to help the opposite sides.
The morality you are chasing is a construct, and humans will end up causing you pain."
She said and then walked to a wall. She leaned her back against it and looked up.
"You must close your heart and lock it away. Exist to carry out your task and that’s all." She spoke with so much conviction in the words that she said, like they were the only truth that existed to her.
"That would be a dark way to live. You have to leave a bit of room for fun and the unexpected, because then you’ll be able to actually live," he said to her.
She heaved a sigh, the type that meant, whatever, and then she left.
"Hmm, she seems to have her own battles to fight.
That being said, I’m pretty good with words. I should really write my own novels. That could be my next hobby when this is done, hahaha. I can already imagine it, a very traumatized hero sent to a world to slay the demon king, but ends up healing his trauma on the journey."
