Chapter 26: Realm of possibility
William stood and looked at the aftermath of his actions, the show of his family’s strength. He dropped his head.
"I ended up using it," he muttered in a low tone.
He turned around. He had to find Violet and make sure that she was fine.
He rushed into the forest to find her. He found her leaning against a tree with her eyes closed. Panic immediately set in.
"Violet," he called in a panic as he got close to her.
She let out a small cough a few seconds later and opened her eyes with a smile.
"You look so concerned about me. Can I take it that you have fallen for me?" she asked in a weak voice.
William heaved a sigh of relief and wrapped his arms around her in a hug. Her eyes widened and her face turned rosy. Shock filled her body, but after a few seconds, she leaned into the hug and allowed herself to melt into it.
At the same time, on the other side of the forest, Belezer could be seen walking through the forest. He staggered a few times but regained his footing. There were no wounds or burns on his body despite being in the center of that attack.
Belezer stopped and dug his hands into his pocket. He pulled out a star-shaped crystal, and a few seconds later it shattered and turned to dust.
"He really lulled me with that attack," Belezer said. "William Crimson, you are a monster."
[.....]
Kael watched as the momentum of things inside the dungeon came to a slowdown when the night grew heavy. Many adventurers left, and some found places to sleep inside. ƒгeewebnovёl.com
Very few were active in their search for the treasure, not that it mattered considering that party had found it.
"They are still unable to take on the floor five guardian boss. Maybe he is too strong?" Kael wondered out loud to himself.
He had watched the group, and rather than attack, they chose to rest on the third floor and take down some small fries, planning on taking down the boss later.
[You have crossed half the requirements for the Dungeon Break]
The system popped up unannounced and interrupted his thinking, and the first thing it shoved in his face was the fact that half of the required people that he would normally have used five days for had all died here today.
Kael could already tell he had a good hand in this, and it immediately made him sick to his core, but before he could utter a word or think, the system complained.
[You have gained access to new information on the Dungeon Break]
[The Dungeon Break will happen with or without you]
[With you, and you control what monsters leave the dungeon to attack]
[Without you, the dungeon chooses. Stronger monsters will be many]
"This, this is cruel," Kael could not help but say.
The system was giving him an ultimatum. He either chose to handle this himself and reduce the amount of damage, or he could choose to refuse and the system would cause chaos.
"How far are you willing to push me, System?" he asked, but there was no reply to that.
[This mission is a requirement for your dungeon evolution. Complete it and trigger your first evolution.]
When the system said that part, his attention was pulled again. He looked at the system and read the details as best as he could.
"Evolution, haha. If my knowledge of reading novels has paid off in any way, then I know for sure that I’ll get a lot of upgrades when I evolve.
This is an opportunity for new changes. I can’t miss out on it. But to get the evolution, I would need to carry out the Dungeon Break. Sigh, what’s the point? It’s not like I can refuse to do it either way. The dungeon would do it itself."
He came to the conclusion that he had to do what he had to do. He was already halfway in.
The smartest route for him to go was to play God a little and serve punishment to those who were pure evil, like the men that tried to rape the lady. Those sorts of people were the ones that deserved to die.
He had a good feeling that he would be seeing a lot of them the next morning because only Joe had the news of the treasure. By now, it had probably spread around the entire town of Raven. All the adventurers would come.
"System, are you happy with the progress I have made? I know you can hear me, so just respond," Kael said.
[Your progress toward completing the goals pleases me]
The system replied with one sentence and went silent.
Kael also went silent for a good bit and allowed his mind to drift, and then after what seemed like a pretty long time, he spoke again.
"Will I ever be able to move on my own, have a body, or leave the dungeon?" he asked.
He felt the system would not bother answering that at all, but it actually did.
[It is within the realm of possibility]
When it said that, a spark of hope instantly ignited in Kael’s heart. There was a possibility. He might be able to meet people and actually talk to them one on one again.
"Haha, then you’ve got a good deal, System. I’ll work as hard as you need as long as I can finally have that one day."
