Chapter 24: Crimson flames
"Why do you care for that witch? She is nothing more than a slave," Belezer said, his tone bordering on curiosity and mockery, like he could not believe someone would go that far for Violet. ƒгeewёbnovel.com
"The likes of you, who have lost your ways, can never understand the meaning of human empathy and love," William said and then shot forward, two swords at his sides and his eyes locked on Belezer.
"I see, then show me. Show me the extent of this human empathy." His voice got louder, teeth clenched and sword in hand. He drove his foot into the ground and launched forward, their speeds looking similar.
William stomped into the ground and went for a swing with his right sword. The blade made a clean arc through the air. Belezer blocked it cleanly, but his eyes had already moved to the sword in the left hand that was coming for a low stab.
He stepped to the side fast and evaded the attack, lifted his leg and kicked the hand, pushing it away and then turning his focus back to William.
William pulled back after that exchange. He knew that there was no way he could handle someone like Belezer that easily.
"You are pretty fast for a five-star dual-wielding warrior," Belezer said. He rolled his shoulder a bit. "If you lived long enough, you could surely make it to six stars."
"I don’t need your thoughts about my strength," William said and then stood straight. "Besides, you are a five-star warrior as well." freeweɓnovel.cøm
"Yes indeed, but you should know, in the realm of five-star warriors, we are not the same."
As Belezer said those words, he vanished. The ground trembled and dust rose. He moved so fast that he became a blur.
William clenched his jaw and gripped his sword tight. His eyes darted around, his ears twitching to hear. Everything was focused on finding Belezer.
’Behind me.’
William turned at the last moment, raising one sword into the air with speed.
CLANG!
Their swords met in the air. The shockwave ripped through the forest like a wave. William clenched his jaw as tight as he could and then pushed back against Belezer, throwing him a few steps back before attacking at full speed.
He moved like a bullet through the air, spun, and slashed with both swords at full speed.
Clang!
Belezer blocked the attack with ease. He slipped to the side and then sent a kick into William’s stomach, pushing him back.
"You are really starting to get on my nerves," Belezer expressed. "This fight will go nowhere on pure skill alone. I would need to drag this out for hours, time I do not have."
After he finished speaking, he placed his blade against his arm and then slashed down. Blood seeped from the wound and flowed onto his blade, painting the entire blade red.
Belezer raised the blade into the air and then shut his eyes. The blood erupted into blood-red flames that covered the entire blade. It raged and burned hot.
"That, that sword technique," William muttered, his eyes stuck on the blade.
"Haha, seems you know what this is. Sadly, it is not a true version of the Crimson Blood Sword Art. It is a watered-down version that I found and mastered.
I thought it would be nice to see how it worked against someone that had seen the real thing, very up close as well," Belezer said and looked right into William’s eyes.
William froze. He looked at Belezer for a few seconds and when his mouth opened again, "How do you know about that?" William asked. His eyes had shifted from the sword. He was not talking about the technique.
"Haha, like I would ever give away my source," Belezer said.
"You will talk, even if I have to carve the truth out of your lips," William said in a deep, low tone. He gripped the handles of his blades tighter and lightning erupted from them. They crackled and glowed, bolts hitting the ground.
"Ahhh, a Crimson using lightning, I see," Belezer said and then brought his sword down and pointed it at William. "You really are the anomaly."
After he said that, he shot forward, closing the distance in a few strides and then went for the slash. His sword, covered in red flames, cut through the air in a perfect arc and made it to William’s chest, only to be blocked at the very last moment.
A surge of flames and lightning exploded in all directions as both of them were pushed back.
William clenched his jaw, his brows furrowed in anger as he charged again, entering a flurry of attacks with both swords. He moved like each hand had a mind of its own. His body’s fluidity was out of this world.
Belezer, on the other hand, showed how skilled and fast he was. He blocked and dodged every attack with the precision of a veteran while at the same time his eyes kept searching for the right slip-up, the right moment to attack.
He had riled William up enough to make him feel like he was fighting calmly, when in reality anger had set in. That anger would show over time as William was unable to land a single attack.
Their fight became a light show in the forest. Both parties danced back and forth, flames and lightning painting the air in a display of pure skill.
"Die!" William yelled as he swung both swords at the same time with all that he had. The swords collided with Belezer’s raised blade and hurled him back through the air and right into a tree.
William saw this as his opportunity to end this. He had forgotten that Belezer was a conniving snake. As he rushed in, he thrust his blade to stab Belezer, only for Belezer to move just enough to the side to evade the blade. At the same time, he thrust his own sword forward and stabbed William right through the chest. The blade went through the armor and came out of his back.
