Chapter 76: Maybe
The Bloodscion ordered them to give those fighting space. "We will only be a distraction. This is not something we can involve ourselves." She clutched the necklace around her delicate neck. It stung, especially now that an Heirloom, a fancy way of naming a collar was reducing her power.
She couldn’t help her people. Just like she couldn’t help her son but now with him back. She’ll do anything to protect him. She also couldn’t help but notice the change in him.
The Thaedric she knew was a coward with a broken will. He won’t even look you in the eyes. But now, he’s different. His experiences from the Reckoning Sanctum and after must have changed him.
They watched the four fight. It should have been a easy fight, three to one. But it wasn’t. The guardian kept them away from itself with its lighting fast longsword.
And when they did manage to get close to it and strike it their attacks didn’t work. They watched as Malak punched it in the face with enough force that it stumbled back a bit but apart from that nothing else happened to it.
The stone floor around them was cracked and the ground was gorged with sword and knives technique that was tearing it apart.
"They are getting weaker." Thaedric muttered. That was the thing to fear most about the guardian.
"Venter, a Fallen," The Bloodscion frowned. "Even I don’t know the amount of power he has. He hasn’t been called for a long time." She flexed the connection between then, pulling taunt but apart from a brief pause it still continued its fighting.
The way that the Iridessa woke it up. It answered no other command. But what command did the Iridessa gave it? "Venter’s power is speed, durability and eating."
"Eating?" Kagerou asked.
"Yes. He eats aura and mama. The longer you fight him the weaker you get and if you get entangled in its aura web then it sucks the life out of you."
Lykon was getting physically weaker, he moved half as fast as before and his attacks were less coordinate.
"How do you kill a guardian?" Thaedric asked. Although he had a bad idea the answer.
"You don’t, three guardians were made from the strongest Fallen. It was during the time of the stormgod. It’ll take an absurdly high tier to kill something like that. We have to seal it back."
Thaedric touched the back of his head. "How?" He was the one supplying the guardian mana.
Lykon was sent flying with a kick to the chest, they heard bones. crunch as the man slammed into the palace pillar. He didn’t stand up after.
Thaedric balled his hands into a fist. He had to do somethingz that Iridessa must have waken the thing up for a reason. And when he looked at his mother beside him, he could easily guess the reason why.
He narrowed his eyes and traced the mana line between him and the guardian. He could see the way the mana was passing through and with a mental shove he probe the mana line. Big mistake.
"Ah!" It was as if electrical wire was forcibly inserted into his brain, he stiffened, groaned loudly and his legs went under him. But it also has an effect. The guardian stumbled as if he was hit by an imaginary force.
"What’s wrong?" The Bloodscion asked, trying her best not to let worry get into her voice. He held him feeling for his pulse.
"I..Im...I’m okay." Thaedric has to unclenched his jaws.
"Humm... guys...what’s wrong with the guardian? It’s coming this way!"
It indeed was picking it’s way over to them, hollow socket trained on them. But it’s movement was a bit off, it moved slowly as if it was just woken.
Thaedric understood the guardian’s intention. It has to secure him, Thaedric, the source of its power. And unfortunately for it, Thaedric had no intention of doing that.
He braced himself and plucked the thread again, touching it mentally as he would the strings of a guitar. The guardian stumbled again, going to its knees. freewēbnoveℓ.com
It was the perfect opportunity for Malak and Liming to attack, while it’s guard was down. But the guardian was a guardian for a reason and it’s sword sang through the air, stopping Liming’s own from getting close to its neck.
Then his aura tentacles reached out, trying to hold him but with w flash of light, Liming teleported away. Leaving Malak to do his sneak attack. It wasn’t really an attack. Malak held the guardian by the legs and with a mighty pull, he sent it spinning over till it slammed into ground, far from Thaedric’s side.
’Damn! My regeneration is taking time to heal me. There’s simply too many wounds for it to heal and so little mana’ Thaedric looked at his mother who was holding him, doing her best not to hold him too lightly. "We have to take care of that guardian now while it hasn’t regained it’s full power. The mana going through it isn’t enough for it to unleash all its power."
The Bloodscion hesitated, then she sighed. "I should join the fight."
Thaedric’s eyes widen. "No you can’t."
"I might be able to help. It won’t attack me. Maybe."
Thaedric struggled out of her gripped, careful of his shoulder and turned to her. "That thing is starving. If you go there with your reduced tier then it will feed on you. I have to starve it somehow."
"If you can do that then you’ll have to do it fast." Kagerou said.
The others attack on the guardian was getting weaker, and the guardian seems to be getting stronger. It slammed its fist into Malak’s side, getting a grunt from him and also sending him spinning sideways.
The guardian turned to Thaedric’s direction and let out a scream like that of a dying beast. Then it planted it feet well on the ground and with a mighty push it leaped directly toward them.
