Chapter 74: Ah!

Cormac raised his hand, and water whipped out in arcing streams, so fast they were streaks of silver. The Blue Shields didn’t stand a chance. freewёbnoνel.com

The attack cut through their metal armor as if it were made of mud. Blood and body parts flew through the air. They didn’t even manage to scream.

But that attack didn’t get all of them, so Cormac used his hand like a whip. The giant water mass snapped out like a storm. Stone cracked and armor twisted.

"Bastard..." The Bloodscion muttered as she sought cover. She bit her lip, and her eyes hardened as she watched her people fall. She would never forgive those behind this.

But in front of the wave stood one man. Liming Reginald. He’s one of the few people who has managed to reach Tier Five. But most people don’t know how terrifying he could be since he didn’t get to fight that often.

His sword was like green light now, and he raised it. "I would love to play with you, Cormac. But my master wants this done quickly."

The Reginald Bloodline Technique is the power to cut things and control them. There’s more to it than that, but that’s the basics. The higher the tier, the more powerful it gets. ƒrēewebnovel.com

Liming made a circle with his sword. "Bloodline Technique, Meteor Fall!"

The air around him bent, ripped, and things suddenly came out—things pointed and metallic, resembling the heads of spears but the size of a full-grown Rashaka. They were drenched in green light, four of them, and they hovered around him.

All the Meteors had deep sword marks on them. It was where Liming had cut them to control them. He was using two techniques now: one that let him teleport them and the one that let him control them.

He gestured with his sword, and one of them shot off with such speed it seemed to disappear. Cormac crossed his hands in front of himself as a shield, but when the Meteor collided, it made no difference.

"Kaboom!!"

The stone beneath them groaned and cracked. The explosion sent streams of hot wind into the air. The shockwave sent debris miles from the arena.

The place where Cormac had been standing was a black hole. The stone had melted. The Heirloom clattered to the floor, glowing red but unhurt.

"Would you look at that," Liming muttered. Heirlooms are like that.

And the technique that Liming used now was also an Heirloom. The spearhead he used was meant to be shot by a giant catapult during war.

Liming Reginald. Shield and sword of the Bloodscion. A one-man army.

With a gesture, the three remaining weapons disappeared.

"Liming Reginald," the Bloodscion said, and her voice trembled. She only called him by his full name when she wanted to scold him or when she was in a very difficult situation. "I think we are going to need your Meteors again."

And then, in the direction of the main palace, a cracking sound echoed out and sent vibrations through the whole palace. Then a light like a small star shot into the sky, a beam that cut through the clouds.

She looked at him, and there was fear in her eyes. "A guardian is awake. And I’m not controlling it."

The light almost blinded Kagerou. He closed his eyes tight, held his sword in his right hand and Thaedric in his left. Even then, the light penetrated and left his vision dancing for a while before he could see again.

"No, no, no, no. I can feel him in my head. He’s angry! He’s hungry! He needs blood!" Thaedric shuddered. The wound on his neck dripped blood faster.

Kagerou shivered at his friend’s voice. It sounded drunk, as if he were speaking from a faraway place.

Then he saw the guardian. Every hair on his body stood up, and his senses screamed at him. Kagerou stumbled back, dragging Thaedric with him.

That drew the guardian’s attention, and he froze, taking in its full appearance. Taller than any Rashaka he had ever seen before, with a sword that almost matched his height. It wore a loose black robe, and its body was thin and malnourished, with its skeleton showing.

"What the..." someone said beside Kagerou, but he was too frozen to look.

The guardian was looking his way, its empty sockets fixed on him with an attention that felt like a physical touch, like that of a falling mountain. Then its gaze turned to Thaedric, and its attention sharpened.

"Ugh." It tried to speak, but what came out was dust and twisted sounds. It tilted its head in their direction, and then suddenly it was in front of them.

So fast! Kagerou thought. He stumbled back, and the guardian looked as if it would follow, but Malak was there, his punch trailing red energy.

Kagerou saw the guardian stop as a technique held it, but it broke free seconds later before Malak’s punch landed, backhanding him away.

And then it was indeed in front of them.

"Ah!" Kagerou sucked in a breath. If the guardian attacked now, then there would be no escaping it. It was so close that he could make out all the dried-up lines around its eyes.

And the smell. It smelled like a dried cave. Musty and dusty.

But the guardian wasn’t interested in Kagerou. Its attention was on Thaedric, who was slumped on the ground. Then it reached out a dried hand—the one that wasn’t holding its sword—to touch Thaedric.

Kagerou stiffened. His mana was exhausted, and even if it wasn’t, he doubted he could do much. Just when he thought the hand would reach Thaedric, something slammed into the guardian. A full-body tackle that sent it tumbling, its sword flying.

"Yes! Take that, you over-dried piece of meat!" Malak was breathing hard and his head was bleeding, but he was smiling. "Even a guardian will fall when pushed!"

A soft sigh caught Kagerou’s attention, and he looked down. Thaedric was struggling to push himself up. "Just... run," he said.
