Chapter 76: You Are Awakened?
When he saw the iron wall completely blocking the stairs to the second floor, Theodore, who was running on the stairs, immediately stopped his steps with the shock he had.
Theodore looked up the stairs and saw Cassian there with his breath caught in his throat. He could tell for sure that Cassian made the iron wall.
"You!" Theodore growled angrily as his eyes met Cassian’s.
Not stopping there, Theodore continued to run towards Cassian, who was at the top of the stairs, and immediately grabbed the man by the collar.
"Why are you only using your powers now?! Don’t you know I almost died down there!" Theodore was furious when he found out that Cassian actually had powers.
Instead of using those powers when the zombie attacked, he had waited this long. Just thinking about it made Theodore angry. Theodore wondered if these people expected him to be eaten by zombies.
For a moment, Theodore recalled the betrayal that happened to him in his previous life; it felt really suffocating for him at this time.
Seeing that the situation could have been worse, Roderick immediately came forward to separate Theodore and Cassian.
Roderick pulled Theodore to get away from Cassian. Honestly, this was the first time he had seen Theodore during this time. He didn’t get angry even though he had never looked angry when they belittled him.
But this time, Theodore was really angry with what Cassian did, although to be honest, Roderick was also upset because if Cassian had that kind of power, he should have used it earlier to help them fight the zombies.
"You have to explain this to us. My men almost died just to make sure you were safe," Roderick said finally after he made sure Theodore was calm and accompanied by other soldiers.
Cassian was still silent, and he seemed to have an explanation for why he was only using his powers at this time, even though he knew that Theodore was risking himself while fighting with the zombies.
"Just so you know, Cassian has his own reasons for doing that!" Instead of Cassian, the young man heard the voice first who said this at this time.
"Whatever your reason, but you still let my people almost die fighting those zombies," Roderick retorted coldly.
Roderick’s anger wasn’t as explosive as Theodore’s, but he could tell that people would fear him when they saw him angry. The young man who spoke earlier immediately shut his mouth and hid behind his group.
Seeing that he had to explain his reasoning, Cassian sighed and took a few steps forward. To begin his speech, Cassian apologized to Theodore.
"I apologize for putting your life in danger. I didn’t want to reveal this power because our group was in danger before when I showed this power," Cassian said later.
Theodore understood Cassian’s reasoning; he remembered the betrayal he had received in his previous life and took out his fear of Cassian.
"I won’t forgive you if you explain what happened here. Don’t say nothing happened. I can clearly see your strange behavior!" Theodore finally spoke, though he spoke from afar.
Before answering, Cassian looked back at his friends and nodded slowly at them.
"There was another group in this mall before. But it turned out to be malicious to us. Chelsea - the woman who was injured earlier - and some of my friends were injured because of them. They wanted to kill us when they found out that three of us had powers," Cassian explained more about their group’s situation.
"I decided to show my power because you were intent on protecting and taking us to the base. I’m sorry I didn’t say so sooner. As I said before, there are three powerful people in our group, me, Neville, and Winsor." Cassian ended his speech while pointing towards a young man and a middle-aged man.
After listening to Cassian’s explanation, Roderick turned to Theodore. He wanted to confirm whether Theodore accepted Cassian’s explanation.
When he saw Theodore only nodding slowly, Roderick realized that he was no longer concerned about this matter.
"Oh yeah, it’s most likely that the group that let the zombies into this place were the ones with the bad intentions. Looks like they still want to kill us," Cassian said again.
"I knew it would be like this. No matter what, we need to figure out how to get out of this place while carrying these irons," Roderick replied, sighing tiredly.
Roderick didn’t expect them to have such a bad experience already, even though this mall was the first place they went to.
Who knew what else would happen to them on the way to their other destinations.
"We should monitor the situation first, not to mention there’s a lot of metal left downstairs." Theodore got up and walked towards the guardrail to examine the iron and metal left on the first floor.
It would be a pity if they had to leave such valuables behind. They had to think of a way to bring the ironworks to the second floor. ƒrēewebnovel.com
"We can help with that," Cassian said hesitantly, remembering how Theodore grabbed him by the collar moments ago.
Theodore didn’t seem too convinced by his words. After all, what could they do to bring the iron to the second floor? However, as Theodore thought about this, he remembered the power those people possessed.
"Don’t tell one of you..." Theodore looked at the group dubiously.
"Yes, Winsor has the power of telekinesis. The matter of transporting the iron on the first floor you can leave that to us," Cassian said with a wide smile.
For once, Cassian was confident that his group could solve the problems that this group of soldiers had, but he also needed to make amends to them. Cassian hoped that with his help, they could sincerely forgive him.
"That’s good then. Now it’s our job to find a way out," Theodore said to Roderick, who was not far from him.
"I think we should monitor the situation outside. It would be best if we could find an exit that could lead directly to our truck," Roderick replied, immediately busy making plans with Theodore.
Theodore nodded his head in agreement, and they started looking for a window or door that they could use to monitor the situation outside. They also needed to ensure where their truck was from inside the mall.
Actually, Theodore had already thought of their escape plan from this mall. It was just that they needed to find a way out to execute the plan he had in mind.
Given that Cassian’s group would be following them, it would be fine if Theodore intended to break one of the windows or doors here to open their way out.
