Chapter 170: Prevent Suspicion

For a moment, Theodore was silent when Madeline asked directly in front of him like that. He could feel her gaze filled with suspicion. It was hard to avoid suspicion when Theodore brought up a lot of things suddenly like this.

"Does it matter where I got it from? What matters is that we now have weapons to deal with the zombie hordes out there," Theodore said, not directly answering Madeline’s suspicions.

"But, still-"

Before Madeline could finish her sentence, Cassian spoke up first.

"Although I’m also curious about where he got all this stuff. But it is true that we really need this stuff right now, so it doesn’t matter where it came from," Cassian explained, looking straight at Madeline.

Madeline was seen gritting her teeth in annoyance; she couldn’t avoid that remark because it was true that they really needed these items now.

However, Madeline would not just back down; she would find time to discover Theodore’s secret.

Seeing that Madeline was no longer pressing him, Theodore immediately took advantage of the situation to divert their conversation. ƒreewebɳovel.com

"The important thing right now is for you to practice using this crossbow. The weapon will be useless if we can’t use it," Theodore said with a serious face.

"That’s right, most of us are melee weapon users. Even though the soldiers use firearms, suddenly changing to using arrows would still be difficult." Cassian nodded in agreement with Theodore’s words.

"No need to worry. My men and I can use them easily." Madeline also raised her chin high while grinning.

"Then I’ll leave these arrows to you," Theodore said as he handed Madeline five crossbows.

Madeline frowned in confusion, "Are we going out already?" she asked in surprise.

"Probably tomorrow. If they don’t spread out tonight, we’ll go out tomorrow no matter what," Theodore replied, already deciding they would get out of this place tomorrow.

"That’s what I want. I can’t wait to get back to the base," Madeline replied with a big smile. She had long wanted to leave this place.

Madeline walked away with light steps, carrying four crossbows with her. She stepped upstairs with two of her men, who were still downstairs.

Theodore guessed that they would discuss what they would do tomorrow. Meanwhile, Theodore himself gave the crossbows to Cassian and Chelsea.

"I hope you guys don’t mind using these, too. We need to protect the car from the zombies blocking every corner of the city," Theodore explained as he gave them the crossbows.

"No problem, you came to save us. So there’s no way we’re just going to stand around," Chelsea said with a smirk.

"Chelsea’s right, I’ll help as much as I can. After all, I’ve been wanting to try using a crossbow," Cassian replied, scratching his head awkwardly.

"Oh! That’s right, I had forgotten you’ve wanted to use a crossbow for a while." Chelsea widened her eyes as she remembered Cassian’s wish.

Seeing that they were about to have a deeper conversation, Theodore quickly interrupted their conversation, "By the way, I don’t see Neville. Where is he?"

"He was here earlier but said he had a headache and went back downstairs to rest," Cassian explained.

"Then I’ll follow him down," Theodore replied as he got up.

Cassian and Chelsea nodded and let Theodore search for Neville in the basement.

After hearing C, Theodore thought something was wrong with Neville. After explaining earlier, he hoped Neville’s condition was not that bad because they somehow needed his strength to escape tomorrow.

As he set foot in the basement, Theodore still couldn’t get used to the pungent smell; luckily,. Luckily, he saw that Neville was in the car at the time.

Theodore strolled to the car and tapped lightly on the window. Then, Theodore got inside and saw that Neville was awake.

"You finally came!" Neville glared angrily at Theodore, who had just gotten into the car.

"Why are you looking so angry like that?" Theodore frowned in confusion when he suddenly saw Neville angry at him.

"You asked me why after knocking me unconscious?" Not believing what he was hearing, Neville even shook his head.

"Ah, about that. I’m sorry because if I hadn’t knocked you unconscious, your ears would have been in trouble from hearing those voices," Theodore explained while scratching the back of his head.

Neville sighed tiredly. It was useless to be angry at Theodore because what he said was true. It would be dangerous for Neville to hear the voice outside that clearly.

"But, about that crystal. I didn’t expect it to make me more focused and my hearing clearer," Neville said later about which crystal he had tried before.

"I told you that you would understand why I collected the crystal," Theodore replied with a chuckle.

"How do you know this?" Neville was also curious about where Theodore could know something like this.

Since Neville knew that even in the base, there was no information about this magic crystal, he was sure that the base would be in an uproar if the fact about this crystal was discovered.

"Do you remember when we were attacked by zombies with toxic smoke powers in the multi-purpose building?" Theodore decided to use their discovery as an excuse.

"Of course, I remember. It was one of the most horrible tragedies of my life," Neville replied as he nodded his head vigorously.

"Well, I found out when I killed that powerful zombie. When I killed it, the zombie dropped the crystal," Theodore explained briefly.

"Ah, that’s so. Then, does this crystal only fall from zombies that have powers?" Neville became even more curious after hearing Theodore’s explanation.

"So far, I’ve only found the crystal from zombies with powers," Theodore replied while pretending to think.

"No wonder why we’ve never found crystals from killing zombies. Besides, why did you come here looking for me?" Neville then chose to ask Theodore why he came looking for him.

Theodore took out his remaining crossbow and gave it to Neville.

"I hope you’ll help us kill the zombies when we leave this place tomorrow." Theodore immediately explained his arrival.

"What?! We’re leaving tomorrow?" Neville didn’t expect them to leave tomorrow.

"Yeah, there’s no time left."

"But you know I can’t fight!" Neville became anxious when he was required to participate in killing zombies.

"Don’t worry, I have another important task for you." Theodore had already considered the most effective way to utilize Neville’s presence in their group.

Since Theodore bought 4 kinds of arrows earlier, he would ask Neville to use them to help the others attack the zombies later.
