Chapter 143: Make a Plan?

"Brother Theo! I didn’t expect to see you here." Geoffrey immediately called out to Theodore from a distance and walked over to him.

"How come you’re here?" Theodore glanced behind Geoffrey and didn’t find Roxanne there, so he thought Geoffrey had come here alone.

Geoffrey glanced around first, then moved closer to Theodore to whisper something. He deliberately whispered because he didn’t want others to hear what he would say to Theodore.

"It’s time to take your lunch ration. I want to look into the cafeteria to confirm the rumors," Geoffrey whispered with a suspicious smile.

"Do you have credit to eat in the cafeteria?" Theodore knew they didn’t have lunch coupons at the cafeteria, so of course, they needed credit to eat there.

"I still have a lot of credit, but I don’t really use it because I’ve always used coupons to eat. So it doesn’t matter if I spend a little credit to eat at the cafeteria," Geoffrey replied, saying he had no problem using his credit.

"Then I’ll come with you. I’m also curious about the food in the base," replied Theodore, finally deciding to follow Geoffrey.

"My friend said we should check the canteen at the main base rather than the one in this barracks." Geoffrey also invited Theodore to go to the main base instead.

"No problem, I’ll follow you." Theodore just nodded his head, not objecting to Geoffrey’s invitation.

Theodore was also curious about what information Geoffrey had gotten, considering that the information Geoffrey had gotten was from the side of the people living in the base.

Usually, the problem would look more objective if seen from the perspective of people who live here. Theodore also thought that what Victor said was influenced by the interests of the military, so he could not conclude it with Victor’s words alone.

Usually, people with power don’t realize what problems they have caused. Hence, Theodore also intended to listen to the information Geoffrey received from the side of the refugees at the base.

When they were around the cafeteria in the main base, Theodore realized that there were only a few people there. He didn’t expect only a few people; he thought there would be many people here.

"Hey, why are there so few people here? Are people still working?" Theodore glanced back and forth at the surroundings several times and mostly only saw soldiers passing by.

"That’s the problem. I came here to see how bad the food is," Geoffrey replied again in a low whisper to Theodore, not wanting the soldiers to hear him.

After that, they quickly entered the canteen, where only a few people were eating. Even Theodore and Geoffrey didn’t have to queue for food.

Since it was quiet, they ate there instead of taking the food home. Theodore picked up a container and started walking towards the buffet table, which was full of food.

A military guard was also in charge of portioning out the food to the people who came.

"Do you want to use coupons or credit?" One of the soldiers asked Theodore and Geoffrey.

"We want to use credit," Theodore said casually.

"Alright, 10 credits."

Theodore and Geoffrey frowned when they heard the price they had to pay to eat here. Before, it would only cost 5 credits, but now the price has doubled.

Geoffrey reluctantly took out 10 credits and gave them to the soldier on guard. Theodore did the same. Although he was a little surprised at the price of the food here, he still paid for it.

However, Theodore secretly remembered it and would ask Roderick or Victor about it later if he had the chance.

Only then did they move orderly to get what had been provided there. From what Theodore saw, many kinds of food looked delicious, so he was confused as to why only a few people came there.

After getting their food, Theodore and Geoffrey walked towards an empty table in the corner of the room. Since there were so few people there, they could choose where to sit.

"Why did they take so many credits from us? Wasn’t it only 5 credits before," Geoffrey whispered, unwilling to spend extra credits for lunch here.

"I don’t know about this either. The captain didn’t say anything about it to me, so I’m a little suspicious," Theodore replied in a low voice. He also didn’t want to attract the attention of the soldiers here.

"Let’s try the food then," said Geoffrey, eager to try the food that cost him so much credit.

Theodore took several kinds of side dishes, such as eggs and sausages, mac and cheese, and fries. When he tried the food, Theodore knew that the problem with this meal was the flavour; all the food was bland.

"I see. Why don’t many people come here?" Theodore said as he reluctantly chewed his food.

"Damn it, I spent 10 credits on food like this. I’d rather barter with people on the street who offer food," Geoffrey muttered angrily. He was forced to eat the food.

They couldn’t help but eat it since it was so expensive. It would be a shame if they didn’t. After finishing their meal, Theodore and Geoffrey left quickly.

They both thought they wouldn’t go back to the cafeteria and that it would be better for them to cook at home.

"Brother Theo, I really want to learn how to cook from you. The food at the base is unreliable," Geoffrey said, feeling that he should immediately take a cooking course with Theodore for his survival.

"That’s fine; while I’m home, just come over," Theodore replied.

"I’m glad you’re willing to teach me. I’ll tell Roxanne not to come to the cafeteria. They’re just taking away our credit. No one should go there!" Geoffrey was still annoyed with the cafeteria.

"By the way, what information did you get from your friends?" Theodore immediately changed the subject. ƒrēewebnovel.com

"Ahh, that’s right. Other than them complaining about the food in the cafeteria, I heard that the people at the base are thinking of starting to grow their own vegetables," Geoffrey replied, recalling the information his friends had given him.

"Growing their own? They intend to do it inside their homes?" Theodore didn’t think anyone had thought of doing this.

"I didn’t know about this either. But many thought of having a field, so some people teamed up and opened a field in an empty corner of the base." Geoffrey explained the information he had gotten.

Theodore nodded his head in understanding; although it was one of the solutions to their food problem, the problem was that not only animals but also plants would mutate.

If these people were not careful, the mutated plants could endanger their base later.
