Chapter 106: Insecurities

Birds were singing cheerfully outside the window as warm sunlight streamed in, slowly waking Cobra up from a deep sleep.

As he became more awake, his mind was blank at first.

But then memories from the night before started flooding back to him.

He remembered the heated touches, passionate kisses, and intimate sounds as the three of them - Cobra, Liam, and Anastasia - became physically intertwined.

Cobra’s breathing grew shaky as panic crept in.

He had shown such a submissive, wanton side of himself in the throes of desire.

Now he felt insecure, wondering if Anastasia would still want him after seeing that vulnerability laid bare. freeweɓnovel.cøm

Determined to escape, if only momentarily, Cobra tried to extract himself from the tangled sheets and limbs to get out of bed.

But before he could move far, a strong arm snaked around his waist, pulling him back down firmly against a warm, solid body.

A deep, sleep-roughened male voice rumbled in his ear. "Blondie, don’t move yet. Five more minutes."

Cobra immediately recognized Liam’s tone and allowed himself to be manhandled back into the cozy embrace.

The familiar, earthy scent and steady cadence of Liam’s breathing seemed to instantly soothe his inner turmoil.

Though his worries still nagged, Cobra felt himself start to relax again, letting his eyelids drift shut once more against the reassuring presence of Liam.

The cheerful birdsong outside was the first thing Cobra registered as he slowly drifted back to wakefulness.

His brow furrowed slightly when he realized the "pillow" beneath his head felt unusually soft and warm.

Blinking his eyes open, he found himself nestled against Anastasia’s breasts, her gentle fingers carding through his blond hair.

"What are you doing, my love?" He murmured fondly enjoying her touch on his hair.

"Watching you and Liam sleep. You look beautiful when you sleep, Cobra." Leaning down, she brushed a feather-light kiss against his forehead.

Cobra worried his bottom lip shyly between his teeth before tucking his face into the crook of her neck, his cheeks flushing at the compliment.

A deep, rumbling purr vibrated from his chest as he inhaled her comforting scent.

"Damn, waking up to this sight could get me pregnant in an instant if I weren’t already pregnant. Sign me up," Liam’s sleep-roughened voice chuckled from behind him.

Cobra couldn’t contain the little whimper that slipped out, his purrs taking on an almost desperate edge as his shyness spiked.

Anastasia giggled, tightening her arms around him in a reassuring squeeze.

Shifting closer, Liam smiled adoringly and wrapped his arms around Cobra’s back like a living blanket.

He nuzzled along the tempting curve of Cobra’s neck, taking long, indulgent inhales of that intoxicating scent.

He smells so good.

The vibrations of Cobra’s ramped-up purring thrummed through them both.

"Who knew this big bad Cobra Storm who took over packs, and killed thousands, the bloodthirsty pack’s head Alpha could be this adorable?" Anastasia couldn’t resist teasing him gently.

"Don’t tease him, Anastasia." Liam mock-scolded, nothing but pure, unvarnished affection saturating his tone.

Strange how he didn’t tease him first.

"I’m not teasing, just letting him know I’m impressed by him. I loved every single moment of last night with you two."

Nodding her fervent agreement, Anastasia nuzzled the top of Cobra’s head. "It was the best."

Unable to find his voice past the bashful lump in his throat, Cobra simply gazed down at where Liam’s arm encircled his waist, their fingers automatically seeking and intertwining.

Together, they captured Anastasia’s cold hand between their joined ones against Cobra’s abdomen.

The three of them exchanged lingering looks brimming with love and contentment.

Liam tugged them impossibly closer, cocooning the two of them in his embrace as they savored the tranquil intimacy of the moment.

All of Cobra’s worries melted away, banished by the strength of the bonds binding their souls together.

In this room they shared last night, he was home.

Cobra stood before the full-length mirror, deftly buttoning up a crisp shirt as he got dressed.

His gaze kept flickering distractedly to the reflection of Liam and Anastasia lounging on the bed behind him.

Liam was chuckling at Anastasia’s worry over the baby growing within his womb.

A small, indulgent smile tugged at the corners of Cobra’s mouth as he watched the tender interaction between the two.

However, that smile soon faded as doubts and insecurities started creeping in, dredged up from the vulnerable depths he’d exposed the previous night.

Had he been too submissive?

Too wanton and uninhibited in their passionate lovemaking?

The memories made a flush of embarrassent and shame heat crawl up the back of his neck.

An Alpha like him was supposed to be strong, and dominant...wasn’t he?

Cobra had managed to push those anxious thoughts aside during their earlier tender morning cuddles.

But now, alone with just his doubts for company, he couldn’t seem to stop the endless cycle of self-criticism and second-guessing.

"Cobra?" Anastasia’s concerned voice shattered through his spiraling thoughts.

Startled, he glanced up to meet her perceptive gaze in the mirror’s reflection.

Her brows were lightly furrowed, having clearly sensed the waves of insecurity and unease rippling through their mate bond.

"Yes, my love?" he replied, aiming for a neutral tone.

Liam looked between them, his confusion evident as he tried to suss out the undercurrents he was obliviously missing.

"Stop thinking," Anastasia commanded firmly, though her tone held no rebuke - only fondness and exasperation for her neurotic mate.

With a sigh of mingled shame and frustration, Cobra dropped his gaze, suddenly unable to meet their eyes.

"Wait, what’s going on?" Liam asked, clearly bewildered by the exchange.

Huffing out another sigh, Anastasia rose fluidly from the bed to cross the room, her arms automatically encircling Cobra in a grounding embrace.

"Cobra, we both loved every single moment of last night. Everything about it was perfect. You made it perfect for us."

But Cobra remained stiff and withdrawn in her arms, unable to shake his swirling doubts.

Finally seeming to catch on, Liam quickly joined them, his larger frame enveloping them both in his strong arms.

"Cobra, seriously? What’s going on?" he murmured gruffly against Cobra’s temple. "You can talk to us freely about anything that’s worrying you."

A ghost of a fond smile flitted across Cobra’s face then. "You called me Cobra, not Blondie," he pointed out in a weak attempt at deflection.

Liam’s chest rumbled with quiet laughter as he leaned in to brush a tender kiss against Cobra’s lips. "Sorry, I’ll remember to call you blondie every time."

But Cobra quickly shook his head, nuzzling into the reassuring warmth of Liam’s neck. "No, Cobra is better."

"’Blondie annoys you, that’s why I like it," Liam teased with a smirk, though his eyes shone with affection.

Cobra gave him a playful swat against his chest, but couldn’t help the helpless grin tugging at his lips.

"Tell me what’s wrong, please?" Liam pleaded, his worry deepening the furrows in his brow. "I can’t sense what you’re feeling inside like Anastasia can."

Because Liam and Cobra don’t have each other marks on their neck, that is why they cannot sense each other’s deep emotions.

Running a soothing hand along Liam’s arm, Anastasia gave him a reassuring squeeze to quell his escalating distress on Cobra’s behalf.

For his part, Cobra averted his gaze, gnawing nervously at his bottom lip as a hot blush crept up his cheeks.

"I just feel...weird," he confessed haltingly.

"I acted so...strange last night. I don’t know if I was supposed to...as an Alpha, I should have been more...dominant. Or something? I’m scared what I did yesterday would make you and Anastasia hate me. I can...I can do better. Just tell me, and I’ll do better next time. I don’t know..."

His voice cracked, wobbling with the depth of his insecurity and desperation not to disappoint his lovers.

Liam’s brows drew down in dismay, a pang of sympathy lancing through his heart at how lost, confused, and terrified Cobra looked at that moment - like he was teetering on the precipice of losing everything.

Gently cupping Cobra’s face between her palms, Anastasia stilled his nervous fidgeting and forced him to meet her gaze head-on.

"Cobra, listen to me," she said, low and intent. "I love you just the way you are. And you have no idea how much Liam and I loved last night - it was genuinely the best night of our lives. Do you think I want you to be more dominant or something else? No, baby. I loved how you were with us... And I really like our lovemaking that way,"

Anastasia continued, her thumbs stroking Cobra’s flushed cheekbones soothingly.

"Ask Liam, he felt the same. But that doesn’t mean I wouldn’t love you if you wanted to try something different. I love you, Cobra - dominant or submissive, alpha, omega, beta - I don’t care about those things. I love you for who you truly are."

She paused, letting the weight of her words sink in as Cobra’s eyes glistened with the first hints of tentative hope and relief.

Leaning in, Anastasia brushed a feather-light kiss across his parted lips.

"I’m so honored that you felt safe and free enough with Liam and me to show us that vulnerable, uninhibited side of yourself. As long as the three of us are together, if you ever want to explore something new or different, just tell us. Liam and I are more than willing to try anything with you, in any way you desire."

To emphasize her point, she captured Cobra’s lips in another searing kiss, tangling her fingers in the silky strands at his nape to angle his head how she wanted.

Cobra melted into the electrifying slide of their mouths with a needy little whimper.

"Hey, leave some for me," Liam mock-whined when they finally broke apart, making both Cobra and Anastasia chuckle breathlessly.

Smiling indulgently, Anastasia stepped back to give Liam room to slant his mouth over Cobra’s in a scorching, possessive kiss.

When they parted, Liam immediately turned his attention to his mate, cupping her face to lay a reverent kiss on her smiling lips as well.

Cobra watched the tender exchange with a look of such open wonderment and devotion that it made Anastasia’s heart feel fit to burst.

Reaching out, she stroked the pad of her thumb along the sharp line of his cheekbone before leaning in to nuzzle the tip of her nose against his in one of the most sacred, intimate gestures wolves could share with their mates.

She repeated the movement with Liam, at once staking her claim and offering her unconditional love and trust.

When she drew back, Cobra’s eyes were clear and bright, all traces of his earlier doubts and anxieties banished by the strength of the bonds tying their three souls together as one.

Pulling her mates tight against her, Anastasia basked in the comforting warmth and scents of her beloved mates.
