Chapter 129: Chapter 129: Released

Beside the flower garden, Bai Mo and Xu Ruyuan talked for a long time.

Though Xu Ruyuan forced himself to remain calm and listen to Bai Mo’s explanation, he couldn’t help but gasp in shock by the end.

"To think such a thing could happen!?"

The color drained from Xu Ruyuan’s face.

"I’ve heard that it’s much harder for Cultivators undergoing corpse transformation to have children than it is for ordinary people..."

Bai Mo was silent for a moment, then nodded.

"According to the books, it’s likely true. After all, their life force is damaged."

Xu Ruyuan said hurriedly, "Brother Bai, you have to think of something!"

’This isn’t a difficult problem.’

While listening to Xu Ruyuan’s story, Bai Mo already had a plan in mind.

"Judging by your condition, the son of your old friend probably succeeded in his transformation after taking the Pill. His constitution is now slowly changing."

"If that weren’t the case, you would have been contaminated by the corpse poison by now."

Bai Mo said slowly.

Xu Ruyuan’s expression stiffened.

"Cultivators who have taken the Pill can still spread the corpse poison?"

Bai Mo said reassuringly, "Only Cultivators who fail to withstand the dreg pill’s effects become like that. It’s not a major issue for the others."

"Your five senses are all still sharp, so you definitely haven’t been affected."

With that, Bai Mo got up and went back into the house, emerging a short while later with a sheet of paper, the ink still wet.

"I’m tied up here for the time being. You should gather the medicinal herbs listed here and boil them in water according to the specified amounts."

"After taking it for three to five months, that person’s body should be more or less recovered."

Xu Ruyuan examined the herbs on the list. Seeing that most were familiar names, he couldn’t help but breathe a huge sigh of relief.

Although they were a bit expensive, the herbs could be brewed three or four times.

It wasn’t an unacceptable cost.

"When you leave, please pass a message to the people of Lanshan Mountain. Tell them not to touch those Pills."

Plenty of Cultivators in the Demon Hunting Teams were willing to take shortcuts.

Thinking about it now, Bai Mo couldn’t help but worry.

"Ah! Don’t worry, that bunch from Lanshan Mountain is sharp!"

"With Brother Bai around, why would they risk taking those Pills?"

Xu Ruyuan clutched the prescription and left carefully.

As he left, he didn’t forget to say goodbye to the disciple who had shown him the way.

...

Night fell. The clouds were thick, hiding the stars.

Bai Mo was immersed in his cultivation when Guo Lingjun showed up at his door.

"Junior Brother Bai!"

His usual nonchalant look was gone, his eyes shining with excitement.

"I went to the location you gave me and really ran into a few of those so-called ’disaster victims.’"

"More than ten of them, all skilled fighters. Their combined attack formations were masterfully executed."

Guo Lingjun almost burst out laughing.

"It’s a merit right in front of me! My trip to Immortal Arrival City wasn’t in vain!"

He took a Pill from his robes. It was a glaring, oily green.

"Junior Brother, take a look. What do you think this is?"

Bai Mo took it and, caught off guard, his hand dipped from the unexpected weight.

"What a heavy Pill!"

Bai Mo’s eyelids twitched. Relying on his instincts as a Pill Master, he immediately sensed the turbulent medicinal power within.

"A vicious Pill!"

"I wonder how much refined metal was fused into it!"

Without a second thought, Bai Mo handed the Pill back.

"This Pill is perfectly formed, and its medicinal power is immense. With my current skill, I can’t determine its origin."

"Brother Guo, you didn’t capture anyone alive?"

Guo Lingjun shook his head as if it were a matter of course.

"Those dozen or so men had incredible chemistry. Their combined attack method was impenetrable, their movements coordinated, and they could fight opponents stronger than themselves."

"I couldn’t hold back in time and ended up killing them all..."

He then took out several other items.

"These were found along with the Pill."

A Talisman and a bottle of viscous, blue-black liquid, both of unknown origin.

Guo Lingjun narrowed his eyes.

"Although I don’t know what these things are for, this group was probably selecting Dharma Protectors."

"I’m definitely going to get involved in this!"

The Xuandao Sect has just taken over Immortal Arrival City. If this matter gets out of hand, it will reflect poorly on the sect.

Playing along with this group of Cultivators was fine, but only on the condition that the fallout could be contained.

"Junior Brother, how long do you think it will take to completely purge the market of these Corpse God Dregs?"

Bai Mo noticed the restlessness in Guo Lingjun’s eyes.

Unlike Liu Tong and the other Xuandao Sect disciples, this one loved to stir up trouble.

"I have a formula on hand right now."

"Drinking the decoction brewed from it can help resist corpse poison infection and improve the constitution of Cultivators who have taken the Pill."

Bai Mo said softly:

"The key is, after drinking the decoction, Yang Fire will remain in the body. Taking a Corpse God Dreg after that will only cause a violent rejection..."

Guo Lingjun’s eyes lit up.

"Junior Brother, you’re a genius! Quick, give me the formula!"

"Once the dregs are cleared from the market, the rest will be our business!"

Bai Mo turned and handed over the formula he had already written out.

Guo Lingjun took it as if it were a priceless treasure and quickly vanished out the door.

The formula was identical to the one he gave Xu Ruyuan, using many of the same materials as a Fire Marrow Pill.

The raw materials for a Fire Marrow Pill are extremely yang and hot, which happens to be the perfect counter to the Corpse God Dregs.

「In the following days.」

Guo Lingjun took charge with vigor, leaving little for Bai Mo to do.

With nothing else to do, Bai Mo borrowed Bu Huan’s cultivation chamber.

This place was originally the residence of a Miaofa Sect disciple. Since that sect controlled Immortal Arrival City, it made sense they wouldn’t treat themselves poorly.

He inserted the Spirit Stones he had brought into the Array Plate. The entire meditation chamber shuddered once, and the Spiritual Qi began to seep out of the Spirit Stones.

This setup was far more sophisticated than the Array Plate Bai Mo owned.

Bai Mo sat cross-legged, basking in the Spiritual Qi, feeling quite content.

...

The days came and went, passing quickly.

In the blink of an eye, seven days had passed.

In the meantime, Guo Lingjun had visited a few times, always to discuss adjustments to the formula.

Other than that, Bai Mo enjoyed a period of peace and quiet.

"The matter of the Corpse God Dregs is drawing to a close, and the culprits have gone to ground. You’ve worked hard these past days, Junior Brother."

When Bai Mo was leaving, Bu Huan saw him off, his words exceedingly polite.

He had been run off his feet lately and was only able to relax now that the Corpse God Dreg situation was declining and fading from the Cultivators’ attention.

Bai Mo shook his head.

"It was nothing, really. I just connected the dots and came up with a formula. How can that compare to the hard work of you senior brothers?"

Bu Huan smiled and led Bai Mo outside.

"Brother Guo should have been the one to see you off, but unfortunately, he’s left the city to track some outsiders..."

Stepping out of the mansion’s gates, the clamor of the city streets washed over them.

The scene of the marketplace was revealed, a completely different world from the one inside the mansion.

Bai Mo cupped his fists at Bu Huan and said, "Brother Bo, please head back."

Bu Huan returned the gesture and, without further pleasantries, watched Bai Mo walk away.

He was truly exhausted.

Walking down the street, Bai Mo felt that the city was no different from usual.

He occasionally heard the words "corpse poison" being discussed, but only from the mouths of a few idlers.

Bai Mo paid a little extra attention, but after listening, he felt their words were exaggerated, intended to scare people for attention.

The listeners scoffed, not falling for it, and argued back and forth with the idlers.

"Hey, customer!" a cheerful voice suddenly called out.

Bai Mo turned to see a streetside tea stall.

"Care for some hot tea, customer? It’s made from a sect formula! A wellness tea! I guarantee you won’t fear the cold after drinking it!"

The attendant introduced enthusiastically.

A thought stirred in Bai Mo’s mind, and he walked over.

"I’ll have a bowl."

The tea was very cheap; just a few coins for a large bowl.

A yellowish-brown liquid sloshed in the bowl. Bai Mo took a small sip and knew instantly that it was based on his formula.

’I wonder which capable person modified this much-simplified version.’

"Drinking it long-term would indeed be effective..."

Bai Mo’s throat bobbed as he swallowed the tea.

"This wellness tea, how many stalls in the city are selling it?"

The attendant, busy with his work, replied casually:

"Oh, tons of ’em. It’s not exactly a secret, after all."

"But our stall has years of experience. We control the heat just right, and our herbs are specially selected..."
