Chapter 82: Breakfast
When Victor woke up in the morning at the Selvarum mansion, he opened his eyes, still very sleepy, and was faced with an unexpected sight: two huge blue eyes stared at him, shining like precious jewels. There was no more than ten centimeters between Victor’s heavy eyes and these brilliant blue eyes.
The fright was brief, but enough to make Victor instinctively reach for the knife he kept under his pillow. However, before any action could be taken, a soft, melodious voice interrupted him. freeweɓnovēl.coɱ
"You’re Hero Victor, right?"
The white-haired hunter immediately stopped what he was doing, and the woman slowly moved away, although she was still on his bed. She had red hair and big glasses, which possibly helped her eyes look even bigger.
Victor got up until he was sitting on the bed and asked:
"Who are you?"
"So you are!" She said and jumped out of bed, jumping for joy, but suddenly stopped, put a hand on her waist and said: "Of course you don’t recognize me! Nowadays, I’m a grown-up, mature woman!"
In fact, at first glance she looked more like a girl. She was no more than one meter sixty tall, and her arms were so thin under her clothes that Victor thought they could easily break if she fell from a height of more than two meters.
"Are you... Mari Dundragon?" Victor asked, looking at the red hair and lively blue eyes he would never forget.
For the woman, Victor’s question was like an arrow to the head and her confident expression immediately disappeared. "How did you know? It’s because my breasts are still small, isn’t it?" she asked with a slurred voice and slumped shoulders.
’She seems to have some kind of complex about her age. Or is it her body?’ Victor was forced to think of a quick answer. ’It’s because of your hair. You should know that red hair like yours is very rare."
"Really?" She asked, raising her head to ask more cheerfully.
"I’m being honest here. And you’ve grown up a lot, Mari. The last time I saw you, you were so small that you tried to hide in my bag when I left. At the time, you said you wanted to travel with me to discover the routine of a hero and do a study on it."
Mari’s face flushed and sweat dripped from her forehead. "I’m sorry about that. At the time, I was very excited to meet a hero like you."
"Don’t worry about it, Mari. They’re just memories of the past now," said Victor with a gentle smile.
Mari smiled back and then she jumped out of bed. "Oh, I almost forgot! Luísa asked me to accompany you to the breakfast table, so I’m here."
Her face still showed a slight blush, but her eyes shone with eagerness.
As Victor was already wearing the clothes Frugeon had lent him, he followed Mari through the corridors of the Selvarum mansion. The place was imposing, with its high ceilings and elegant furniture that reflected the family’s wealth. What’s more, at this time of day there were many more servants working in the halls and corridors.
"If I may ask, what have you been doing these last few years, Mari?" asked Victor, curious to know more about the young woman next to him.
"After you left, I continued to devote myself to my studies. I went to the Yelynore University of Magic and became a skilled mage, as well as honing my skills as a craftsman, of course. I only returned to Klento a year ago."
"Wow, you’re really doing well. And your magical inventions, how are they going?" frёewebnoѵel.ƈo๓
"Oh, you’re interested in that?!" She turned and asked.
Victor felt like he was going to regret it, but he nodded, which made a broad smile appear on her face, but from that moment on she hardly gave him any time to speak or ask questions.
"I’ve recently been working on a unique project to develop a Quarion Crystal, which involves..."
Mari Dundragon, the genius inventor, began to explain her project to Victor and didn’t stop as they walked through the corridors. This project was so advanced that Victor didn’t understand most of the terms she used, so in the end he had no idea what this new invention was for.
In any case, Victor praised her and wished her luck.
When they reached the dining room, Luísa Selvarum, the matriarch of the family, was already seated at the table. She was a woman of imposing presence and was talking to Frugeon, her bodyguard, who was also at the table, and to a woman with medium-length hair sitting to her left.
There was also one more person sitting at the table, a young man with short hair and armor.
"Victor, what a pleasure to have you join us for breakfast," said Luísa with a warm smile.
"It’s my pleasure, Mrs. Selvarum," replied Victor, bowing his head slightly in respect.
A hearty breakfast was waiting on the table. The aroma of freshly baked bread mingled with the smell of coffee, tea and other hot drinks available for warming up. It was a bountiful table, full of fruit, pastries and other foods. There was more than enough to feed an ordinary family for a whole week.
"Victor, please sit next to me." Luísa said and pointed to an empty chair next to the end of the table, where she was sitting.
The hunter agreed, but felt the stares of the others as he walked to the place designated for him.
Mari Dundragon didn’t seem to notice, sat down somewhere and immediately started eating voraciously.
"This bwead ish dewicioush!" Mari tried to compliment the bread, but her mouth was full.
"Take it easy, Ma. Otherwise you’ll choke." said the short-haired woman sitting right next to where Victor was going to sit.
This woman then turned her eyes towards Victor. She had dark green hair and intensely yellow eyes, and she looked young, but not too young, probably around thirty. Her eyes looked at Victor, but unlike Frugeon, who was staring at Victor with clear suspicion, it was impossible even for Victor to tell what exactly she was thinking.
For his part, the young man in armor on the other side of the table just looked at Victor out of the corner of his eye and quickly turned his face away, as if he wasn’t very interested.
