Chapter 103: Sea Floor
Victor’s dive took him deeper, temporarily distancing him from the sight of the Devourer of Ships. He knew he had to act fast if he wanted to kill this monster and get everyone out of this situation alive.
Victor wasn’t an excellent swimmer, especially since it had been years since he had last done so, but he tried to move silently through the dark waters.
With his black sword in hand, he looked for the right angle for an attack. Suddenly, he was spotted by the giant red eye of the Devourer of Ships and the monster roared with rage at the sight of him, immediately commanding several of its tentacles to grab Victor. However, being seen was exactly what Victor wanted at that moment, because while he was hiding he had time to prepare an attack.
Victor flooded the black sword with Den and threw his sword towards the monster’s eye. The blade flew like a harpoon through the water, and Victor had tied a rope that connected the handle of the blade to his fist, so he was pulled with the sword through the water.
He quickly passed through the tentacles, which failed to catch him, and the black sword hit the monster right in the eye. To make matters worse for the Devourer of Ships, the heavy Victor took advantage of the stuck sword and spun it around before pulling it out of its eye.
However, Victor’s momentary victory triggered an unexpected reaction.
The Devourer of Ships roared furiously, and the sound of its roar spread for hundreds of meters in and out of the water.
Furious, the monster’s tentacles that embraced the "Traveling Mermaid" ship slowly retreated into the water, causing the ship to fall. Luckily, the ship wasn’t as high as it had been before, so it didn’t break in half, but it was still a violent blow for everyone.
Underwater, Victor covered his ears to try and muffle some of the roaring sound of the Devourer of Ships, but suddenly a magical shockwave came from the monster, knocking everything away within a radius of ten meters.
Victor was taken by surprise by the monster’s magical ability. His body was thrown backwards, enveloped by the pulsating energy. For a few seconds, his vision blurred, his ears rang with the impact and he struggled to regain control of his own limbs.
As he struggled to stabilize himself, Victor realized that the Devourer of Ships was not just a Moon Squid with powerful regeneration, but a creature endowed with magical powers that were the reason it had such good regeneration.
With his vision clearing, Victor concentrated on using Den, because he was aware that the Devourer of Ships was not a Rank-C or B creature, but a Rank-A creature.
At the same time as the battle was taking place underwater, above the surface, the crew of the "Traveling Mermaid" were stunned, traumatized and frightened, and luckily thanks to the waves generated by the Devourer of Ships’ magical attack, the boat moved a little away from where the battle was taking place.
All the crew on deck were wet and many injured, and those who had managed to protect themselves in time in the ship’s storeroom began to hesitantly make their way out onto the deck.
The sea had clearly become a battlefield, and the impacts in the water easily reached the crew’s ears.
"Captain! We must get out of here while we have time!"
"Are you crazy?! He saved our lives! We can’t abandon him!" shouted the captain.
"Sir, he will die and then it will be us! That’s the Devourer of Ships! Not even a Rank-A Hunter could defeat it alone!"
"Captain, we’ll be at a complete disadvantage if we stay here! We should get help and get away while we can!" exclaimed another worried sailor. ƒreeωebnovel.ƈom
The captain of the "Traveling Mermaid" approached the bow, looked ahead to the sea, where the battle was taking place, and replied:
"We won’t abandon an ally in battle, especially someone who has shown courage and skill like this hunter! If he’s not dead yet, I believe he has a chance against the Devourer of Ships! Besides, Jonathan and Timmy are still alive! I’m sure of it! We’ll wait and that’s an order!"
The captain of the "Traveling Mermaid" stared steadfastly at the water as if he could see the battle raging in the turbulent waters. His face expressed not only determination mixed with a hint of concern, but also excitement.
The crew, torn between fear and loyalty to their captain, looked anxiously out to sea. Some mumbled prayers, while others were ready to act if the situation worsened and they needed to leave quickly.
Meanwhile, underwater, the fighting was intense. The Devourer of Ships launched its tentacles in a ferocious attack, aiming to envelop and crush Victor, who nimbly dodged a few blows. However, being in the natural habitat of the Devourer of Ships, Victor was at a complete disadvantage and when he tried to block the attack of a tentacle, he was thrown even deeper into the sea.
Victor’s robust, muscular body was being tested by the force of the sea and he couldn’t even catch his breath in this situation.
Despite this, the black sword glowed with concentrated Den energy, and Victor threw the sword towards the monster again. As he was tied to the sword, he was pulled along by the power of the Den and so was able to quickly approach the sea monster. However, the Devourer of Ships, aware of the formidable opponent’s strength, roared once more and unleashed another staggering magical shockwave.
Victor felt his whole mind reeling again and a ringing began to plague his eardrums. When he finally managed to open his eyes, although everything was still blurry, he saw a huge green mass coming towards him.
Furious with Victor, the Devourer of Ships lunged forward and attacked the hunter with a powerful headbutt that hurled him to the bottom of the sea. With the impact on the sandy sea floor, Victor lost most of the oxygen left in his lungs, but this same impact freed him from the stun effect and helped him come back to reality.
