Chapter 93: Last Preparation (3)

"..."

"..."

The two immediately fell silent at that. Neither Rylan nor Eiden voiced out their thoughts, but Lionel could see the questions written across their faces.

"We’ll handle everything exactly as instructed, my lord." Eiden, after a moment, muttered.

Lionel nodded and smiled at that.

"I know you will."

"The contracts, the negotiations, and the distribution. We’ll take care of all of it, my lord." Rylan also lowered his head.

"Good." freeωebnovēl.c૦m

Another silence followed after that. Eiden and Rylan both glanced at Lionel. In their mind, the exact same question bothered them.

How can their young lord exactly know what will happen in 2 weeks?

"My lord..." Eventually, Eiden couldn’t help himself.

"Hm?" However, when Lionel looked at him, Eiden immediately froze.

For a moment, he looked like he wanted to say something. Then he hesitated before shaking his head.

"N-Nothing."

Lionel stared at him for a second before a small smile appeared. He already knew what Eiden wanted to ask. It should be the same question that everyone in their right mind would ask themselves.

How could he know things before they happened?

How could he know which merchants would become successful?

And...

How could he possibly know that a fire would occur in one of the Empire’s largest sugar warehouses?

Lionel just smiled at it. Sometimes, some truths were just impossible to explain..

"My lord." Fortunately, Rylan spoke before the awkward silence could continue

"Yes?"

"I don’t know how you know these things." Rylan looked directly at him and scratched the back of his head awkwardly.

"I won’t pretend I understand it."

"But every time we’ve followed your instructions... it has worked."

"That is true." Eiden slowly nodded.

Lionel could only shake his head and chuckled.

The two men exchanged a glance.

"We will just trust you, my lord."

"Then don’t worry about the reason. Just focus on the result." Lionel looked at them quietly before smiling.

"Yes, my lord."

"We understood it."

Lionel happily smiled at that. He was not wrong to trust these two again in this new life of his.

"There’s one more thing."

"My lord?"

Lionel folded his arms.

"While I’m at the Imperial Army training grounds, there may be times when you’ll need to contact me."

The moment he said that, Rylan and Eiden exchanged glances. That’s when they realized that they would actually have to do that. Their expressions immediately became troubled.

"My lord..." Eiden hesitated. "The Imperial Army is extremely strict. How can we do it?"

"We heard that communication with the outside is heavily restricted during training." Rylan nodded as well.

"Exactly." Eiden frowned. "Even if something important happens, how would we get a message to you?"

Lionel simply smiled. When they saw that smile, both men immediately knew he had already thought of a solution.

"My lord?" Rylan asked cautiously.

Lionel leaned slightly against the table.

"Just go to the greenhouse."

"The greenhouse?"

"Yes."

Both men blinked in confusion. How can the greenhouse even help them?

Lionel nodded calmly.

"I’ll inform Diana to give both of you unrestricted access to it."

Now the two were even more confused. The lines on their forehead deepened as they looked at Lionel. At one point, Eiden even scratched his head.

"My lord, what does the greenhouse have to do with communicating with you?"

"Do you remember the bird I bought recently?" Lionel chuckled.

"The royal bird?" Rylan asked.

"Yes." Lionel nodded. "If you need to send me a message, write it down and tie it to the bird. He will come and find me."

"..."

"..."

"Right!" Eiden’s eyes slowly widened.

"The bird..." Rylan’s mouth opened slightly.

"It will find me just like how it found you when I asked it."

"..."

"..."

A few seconds passed, then Eiden slapped the table.

"That’s brilliant!"

"Oh my! We haven’t thought about that, my lord!" Rylan’s jaw fell to the ground.

The more they thought about it, the more ridiculous and effective the idea became. They remembered when a bird just suddenly approached them while they were out.

It was one of the oddest things they have experienced! And when they remembered that it was Lionel’s bird, that was when it hit them. It was really ridiculous!

A bird could travel freely, and aside from that, nobody would pay attention to a bird flying around the training grounds because it was just nature. Even if soldiers saw it, they would simply assume it was just a normal bird passing by.

"My lord..." Eiden looked genuinely impressed.

"You thought of that already?"

"I did."

"That’s amazing."

Lionel almost laughed at how amazed they looked.

"It’s not that complicated."

"It is!" Eiden immediately protested.

Rylan nodded in agreement. The two looked increasingly impressed.

Meanwhile, Lionel remained calm. In reality, messenger birds had existed for centuries. The only unusual thing was that his bird was far smarter than a normal one.

"Just remember," Lionel said. "Only use it when necessary."

"Understood."

"We won’t abuse it, my lord."

"Good." Lionel nodded.

Rylan carefully folded the papers once more and tucked them inside his uniform.

"We’ll handle everything here while you’re away."

"And we’ll send reports whenever necessary," Eiden added.

"Then I’ll leave things in your hands." Lionel smiled.

The two immediately placed a fist over their chests.

"You can count on us, my lord."

Lionel laughed softly at their serious expressions. After calming down, he pushed himself away from the table and stood up.

The two men immediately took a step to the side.

"Are you going now my lord?"

"No," Lionel walked over to them. For a moment, he simply looked at the two.

Rylan.

Eiden.

The two men who had followed him through countless difficulties in his previous life and never betrayed him. An indescribable feeling passed through Lionel’s chest.

Without saying anything, he tip toed to pat both of their shoulders. The gesture surprised both of them.

"My lord?"

"You’ve both worked hard." Lionel smiled.

"It’s nothing, my lord."

"We’re only doing our jobs."

The two immediately looked embarrassed.

"No." Lionel shook his head. "You two are far more capable than you realize."

Rylan and Eiden exchanged confused looks when Lionel suddenly became all warm with his words. freeωebnovēl.c૦m

Lionel looked at them with a faint sense of admiration hidden in his eyes. In his previous life, both of them had risen far beyond their current positions. Neither of them knew what they would eventually become, but he just had to say it.

"You know..." Lionel suddenly said.

"Hm?" Eiden blinked.

"Yes, my lord?"

Lionel smiled.

"You two will become outstanding generals one day."
